NFL 2016-2017

Stick a fork in us, we're done. I don't understand how it could go so wrong, so quickly. But it's over. What a nightmare.

Time to go back to what I used to do. Hating the Patriots.

This is a colossal disaster from the top down.

Gettleman has made some nice pick-ups, but his hard-lined stance against shoring up the secondary when we had the best F*CKING cornerback in the league on this roster, a hometown kid, who WANTED to stay here...I'm sorry, but that was the absolute worst roster move in the history of this franchise and it is showing.

There is ZERO pass rush. The combination of Kony Ealy and Charles Johnson is NOT working. CJ had a decent game stopping the run tonight (ahem, against a 3rd stringer who was unemployed until Week 2 and a completely depleted TB offensive line)...so take this one with a grain of salt.

Don't get me started on our offensive line. I'll just stop and not go on for fear of having an aneurism.

Cam Newton is complacent - he might be the most gifted player in the league, but he has to have the mental edge. He spat in everyone's face last year with the "If you don't like it, stop me" act...what the f*** did he think people would do now? They are teeing off on his ass every chance they get. And you can't blame them.

And Mike Shula.... MF'ing Mike Shula. You have the ball GIFTED to you with a tie game and 4 min left after a missed FG (which followed a terrible INT from DA)...and you run the damn football 3 times in a row??? Are you KIDDING ME?

The winner tonight - my television. It survived, miraculously...for now.

O-line was okay. But you're right. The secondary is a joke, the d line can't get any pressure from the ends. Anderson threw a costly pick and fumbled the ball while trying to scramble. Play calling was terrible. Cam seems complacent.

Bottom line: there's no edge to this team. It's been lost completely. The bye can't come soon enough.

Pitiful, pitiful, pitiful. We will be the laughing stock of the NFL. How can you have such a dominate core, and perform like you have this year. If gettleman caused all this, then he needs to be shown the door. It's not like we had a mass defection from last year. I knew missing Norman would be hard to overcome, but did that create an issue with us scoring? Did Benjamin coming back bust the offense? Where is the league MVP in all this? We will be on track to a .500 season if we aren't careful. What a joke

I mean with all of this flooding, road closures, evacuations, and other crap going on, I really could have used some gridiron glory as a distraction. Pirates? Nope. Heels? Emphatic nope. MNF Panthers? Glad I went to bed when I did because NOPE.

Sheesh.

Bucs = Smartest kid on the short bus. Congrats, I guess. :)
Oh we still suck, I have no delusions about us being good. NFL bores me and I could only watch about 15 minutes of that game last night....even though my team was involved.

Most people get all their chores and weekend responsibilities done on Saturdays so that their Sundays are freed up for NFL watching. I'm the opposite. My Saturdays are all about football and Sundays are for getting stuff done. The way the NFL runs its league is jacked up and I don't want any part of it for the most part.

Honestly, I think I am close to needing some sort of intervention sports-wise. UNC losing in the title game, Panthers losing in the Super Bowl, UNC Football handing Georgia a win and then laying that goose egg this weekend. Panthers completely falling apart at all levels of the organization this year (they do realize a team's Super Bowl window is small, right? May want to take advantage of it?)... And the weather is turning f'ing cold.

Openly admitting that I now need help, citing health concerns.

I know how you feel. It's seems every team I like is losing and the ones that I hate are winning.

A moo u win against ND didn't do it for you?

raw

All on the.line at the moment. Panthers giving all opposing QBs record days. Our secondary not fairing so well

It boggles my mind as to what happened to this team. I guess we ride the one hit wonder train again for a decade or so

wtf is dallas gonna do?

seriously, i'm team romo, but gawd.

don't you have to play romo after the bye and if it goes sour, he's gone?

I'm sorry but this is on Gettleman 100% with his handling of the offseason. The QB's are toying with these rookies at this point. Every week teams are breaking franchise records. I won't keep mentioning but this is absolutely a result of Josh Norman. He shut down half the field every play, which made everyone else's job easier.

He has made nice pickups on the FA market last few years but so far all of his drafts have been complete busts. Ealy? Funchess?

This is on him.

We need pass rushers. Charles Johnson is about 3-5 years past his prime, and it's gotten to the point where he's pretty much useless. It doesn't really matter who's in the secondary if the QB can stand there for as long as he wants and scan the field.

Not disagreeing at all about the D.Line -- Johnson is past his prime, but at least he's being paid accordingly now. Ealy just sucks and the Super Bowl appears to have been a fluke.

I understand the hesitation for paying the kind of money Josh Norman wanted, especially given he is 29 years old and those guys lose a step seemingly overnight. But there was NO reason to go all "Gangsta Gettleman" and not at least keep him under the tag. I don't care how they spin it, there's absolutely no excuse or justification for that move when you've got a legitimate title contending team. These big plays this year have been a result of broken coverage...that wouldn't happen if our roster were as it should have been.

Looking at the comments after the move and even today, it's clear this was Gettleman's move and not convinced Rivera had much (if any) say in the matter. Rivera, today, said something to the effect of "It's who we have and we make the best of it" (when asked about the secondary). That's pretty telling.

Can't wait to get Oher and Bradberry back. Can only hope those two will bring back some normalcy, but the D.Line is just atrocious, and I am actually wondering if K.Short is playing soft b/c he didn't get paid. How does a player of his caliber just disappear? T.Davis is starting to look old too. He's just not himself. Just an awful, awful start to this season. I'm not giving up hope, but 1-2 more loses and it's over.

I have a hard time watching the NFL anyway because of the officiating. They pick and choose depending on the team and player what they want to call. It gets old. Glad basketball is about to start.

If they somehow got to 10 wins, they might snag the last wildcard. I don't think the Falcons are going to fall apart like they did last season. Just hoping for a miracle turnaround at this point but not holding my breath.

I dunno about that. I feel like you gotta do the opposite. Keep riding Prescott, and if he Fs one up once Romo is healthy, start Romo the next week.

If it were up to me, I'd fire Gettleman right now, honestly. When you screw up a team so badly that you go from 15-1 to 1-5 and it looks like your team has no idea how to turn it around because they just don't have the players to do it, you deserve to be fired. He has completely ruined this franchise. Instead of using last year to build upon and get better, Gettleman burned it to the ground. Fire him.

Hard to disagree, but I wouldn't go this far yet. I still think they could get on a roll and make a run at a wild card, but that margin for error is gone. I think they could SNEAK in with a 9-7 record if the chips fall right, which leaves them with a max of 2 more losses, and the schedule won't do them any favors.

Seriously? You must not know much about the history of the Panthers.
What, you mean Rodney Peete and Chris Weinke? lol Yeah, I definitely know about the history of the Panthers. I guess what I meant was, we were finally on our way to establishing ourselves as a legit contender for a good long time, and Gettleman's poor decision making has seriously put everything in jeopardy.

Two things, 1. you could say that the reason they were on the way to being a contender was because of him, or 2. last year could have just been a fluke and this year is just a reset back to normal.

The stars of this team are a result of Marty Hurney. With all of his faults, Hurney was very good at selecting players in the early rounds.

I think Gettleman is better at finding those diamonds in the rough and we have a coaching staff that is good at getting the most out of them, but there comes a point when playing with fire will get you burned, and this offseason did that. You simply cannot throw out an ENTIRE secondary (literally) of rookies...against Drew Brees, Matt Ryan, etc...and expect the result to be a positive one.

Gettleman clearly drafted 3 CBs hoping one of them would emerge as a clear replacement for Josh Norman...and I believe Bradberry will do just that. But my gripe is WHY...WHY in God's name don't you keep Josh Norman under the tag, put him and Bradberry on the field at the same time...and then let Josh go get paid after this year? There's zero justification for not taking that route.

Last year the Panthers did benefit from playing weaker teams (NFC East, AFC South), and they did win a lot of close games. This year the schedule is tougher (NFC West, AFC West), and they've lost 3 close, winnable games (I don't count the Atlanta game as being close even though the final score may have been).

However the defense has fallen off so dramatically that I just don't see them going on a miracle run. Rivera has had a history of slow starts with strong finishes but this would be a phenomenal turnaround if they can make the playoffs now.

1.) See Blue's poast, but besides, if you're going to build something awesome only to f**k it up a year later, then what good are you? Gotta sustain it.

2.) Nobody can tell me 15-1 is a fluke. That team beat the holy hell out of you, and they let you know it. They had a confident attitude that was unmatched, and they let you know it. That team was special.

Record going back to 2010:

2–14
6–10
7–9
12–4
7–8–1
15–1

They've only won 10+ games six times in the history of the franchise. Their all time winning percentage is just under .500. History says last year was probably an outlier.
