OOTB's Political Thread . ..

Ranked choice only works like it should if they do away with parties. Obviously a republican wins Alaska otherwise.

I thought the GA senate race and the PA race would have ended in reverse. I figured Dr. Oz would have won that one.

I'm surprised the GA race is so close that it might require a run-off.

He said many, it's actually not that many. And which key state? I'm not sure which ones would be considered key to the survival of our democracy.
how bout AZ and Nevada. AZ ain't over yet, nobody knows what will happen with NV/GA... senate still has a tiny shot of going 51 GOP. PA/Wisc aren't close but still have 5% outstanding.

If there were only the 1 D and 1 R, the Rs most likely win based on the numbers I’m seeing. Unless you believe many of the Rs would have gone D absent of their preferred R. But we know the majority just votes on the party and very few vote on the candidate’s individual stances.

So if you do away with parties, then those that are going to vote would have to inform themselves of the actual issues. And it’s my belief that in that scenario, conservatives benefit.

I suspect Warnock has the edge there. Walker is already a whackjob to begin with. He probably got a boost from people voting down ticket on the GOP side who liked Brian Kemp. He's not going to get that in December.

The independent was a libertarian candidate. If they can be motivated to go to the polls, more of them will go with Walker.

Hey, he attacked me over the issue. Not the other way around. My gender is irrelevant to midterm discussion.
But... we have to thwart your sexual deviance and harmful influence on "the children!" They should embrace you more than anyone. You're one woman that will never have an abortion!

I actually think both of these are true.

The one other thing benefitting Warnock (I think) is Walker is going to be in the spotlight, which for most people's opinion, is not a good thing. There's also more time for crap to come out about him.

Should be super interesting and close as shit again.

Nah... there was a 2% voting bloc that went for a Oliver. They aren't going to vote for Warnock. I was certain that Walker would win yesterday. I think the runoff will definitely elect Walker. The GQP didn't get their red wave. It actually wasn't even a ripple. There's still this runoff left to manage a little redemption.

It'll be close, for sure. This election cycle we saw a lot of people mix their votes. People in Kentucky overwhelmingly voted for Rand Paul but they rejected a constitutional provision outlawing abortion. Chris Sununu in New Hampshire cruised to reelection but so did Maggie Hassan.

My thought process is that the suburban mom and dad types who were perfectly content to vote for Brian Kemp will not feel the same way about Herschel. He's a lot like Roy Moore in Alabama a little while back. Just not a good dude.

Do you really think that matters anymore? I don't.

I'm guessing Walker has an IQ of around 85? 90, maybe? It will be endlessly fun watching him in the US Senate for 4 years.

All this talk about Walker. Did anyone listen to or know the background on Fetterman? He was elected and is definitely on the spectrum.

Also, Dem voters less likely to turn out for special election. That’s conventional thought and the hope.

You're assuming that 2% shows up, though. The difference between Walker and Kemp's numbers was pretty significant. It's possible Walker wins, but I don't think it's anywhere near a sure thing. Just goes to show you how bad of a candidate he is.

Warnock received 1.6M votes in the 2020 general then 2.3M in the runoff. However, both Ossoff and Perdue got less votes in their runoff so I'm just confused.

ETA: Warnock and Loeffler both had challengers from other Dems and Republicans in the general so their votes went to each. So that makes more sense. But the combined Dem vote went from 1.95M to 2.3M so there was definitely a boost.

GOP wasn’t as motivated in that runoff and the country wasn’t in the shape it’s in now. I don’t think that is a valid comparison

I should have clarified. I didn't mean to imply that the 2% vote for Oliver would vote for Walker, either. I don't know anything about Oliver.

Like I said, I’ll be mad for a few days and then I’ll get over it. My city council went red for the first time in over a decade. So that’s my silver lining.
Mad for a few days?! You'll get over it?! Like hell you will!! You're still pissed off about the 2020 election and it shows with just about every corrosive post you spew. No, you'll go to your grave mumbling the MAGA adieu.

And your silver lining in all of this is a new city council?

Yes, I was upset. But I went and sat and talked with my dad about it and he made me feel much better.

he's never been polished, but he's suffering auditory processing problems due to the stroke. If you don't like it, find someone better than Oz, or get some ranked choice voting up in here.
