It is not an emergency.....

The money is already there, will just be moved around. Have you folks considered if Trump gets his Wall money his main campaign slogan is gone?

Not sure if I would call it a national emergency, but the list of national emergencies that have been declared is interesting. Trump wouldn't be the first to call something an emergency that wasn't. His is definitely the most controversial though.

Yea when i read about the other emergencies declared by previous presidents i was surprised. I was gonna complain about how this sets a troubling precedent but evidently its been going on.

His supporters are so stupid, he can tell them the wall is already there and they’ll believe him.

I'm firmly in the camp of not wanting any president to have "national emergency power" to override or circumvent congress.

I looked through the various national emergencies that have been declared by presidents in the past, from Carter forward, each president as declared some. GWB and BO declared a lot, and several are still in effect. But almost all of them seem to be odd....like denying funding or support to a (usually small, limited power) country that is hostile to us or to other countries in their region of the world.

The past national emergencies seem to be quite different than this one declared by DJT. And Trump thinking he can just move around money from whatever federal fund he finds it in (defense dept, homeland security) - should be illegal, challenged in courts. This si supposed to be entirely the responsibility of congress.

My view is that the president AND the massive executive branch structure (with a lot of agencies, unelected bureaucrats making "laws", rules, regulations) is the single largest affront on the constitution, and is at the root of what is most wrong with our current government. Doing things, stripping freedoms, building regulations...and none of these people or their rules or regulations are ever voted on. Citizens can do nothing to remove them.

At least with Trump's overreach, courts will have a last say on this. But what if there comes a time when the courts also allow for this abuse of power by a president and the executive branch (and extra-constitutional executive agencies and bureaucracies?)

Yup. Hell, the last president EO'd us into a treaty. Evidently, nobody told him that only Congress can pass a treaty. The powers of the president are getting closer to a dictator every term.

You left out the "famous" part. Thats a big part of it. I'm sure you overlooked that though.
Ahhhh, but "famous" requires something not mentioned before. Can you guess what that might be? It is the great equalizer. It doesn't recognize color, creed, nationality, sexual orientation, gender, or anything else.

Here's a hint:

Regardless you obviously omitted the famous part for whatever reason. The more thinks change, the more they remain the same, huh Strum?

Chris Rock said it best, he said something like “I’m rich and famous and you still wouldn’t trade places with me”.
I would love to switch with him if I didn't have a wife and kids. He's rich, people think he's funny and he can **** almost any woman he wants.
