OOTB's Political Thread . ..

I don't spend much time reading Hallmark cards.
Of course you don't. Imaginary friends and family members can't lick stamps, much less slip cards into envelopes and mail them. You should check it out sometime. They always have a lot of stupid shit in them like "those magical moments of solitude" and "restorative feelings," crap like that. You can tell they must be created by some of the loneliest people on earth.

You need to take up deer hunting.
good suggestion, but my situation now is such that I can choose solitude or company at will, and that's a good place to be. That being said, I have spent untold hours enjoying the peace and quiet of the woods, and that's also a great place to be. I hunted some in my younger days, but at this time I get as much charge out of just seeing a deer or other wildlife as I might have shooting one.

I'm not sure why I need to check out Hallmark cards that come from your imaginary friends when you routinely provide all the 'stupid shit' one might care to read. Maybe I'm missing something.

Don't forget to tell your fiance what a lucky guy he is.

I understand your point, but there is a reason they call it deer hunting and not deer shooting (much like going fishing versus going catching). There's very little to compare to what one experiences in the woods when the forest wakes up at sunrise or goes to sleep at sunset. As to your last note, for a variety of reasons, many of my friends and family are still out in the woods, but they leave their firearms at home and now take their cameras.

Oh, well, it looks like I need to line up a dishwasher after all. Enjoy the game with your "friends and family." ;)
Why would you need a dishwasher at the game in San Diego? You don't have to lie to make people like you. A trip to San Diego isn't a really big deal anyway.

I'm with them.

And you're preaching to the choir regarding the serenity of the woods at any time of day. When I was a kid, I would even sneak out of the house at night and visit the places I knew how to get in and out of without a flashlight. The woods has always been a special place for me. On very many days, I would be gone to the woods before sunup and before anyone else was up, and stay all day to be back only at sundown. That was the only rule, be back before dark or get skinned alive. Different times.

That's a phrase I heard a ton from momma as a kid. And since my dad was a bit of a knife collector, it had legs in my mind. You brought back a good memory of her. Thanks.
to me, getting skinned alive meant something beyond getting switched on my bare legs with a limb from one of the willow trees in our yard. The switchings were frequent, but I somehow managed to avoid a skinning. Some close calls though.

Watched an interesting video today when I fell down the YouTube rabbit hole. It was about the theoretical line of succession if Washington had been declared King. One of the potential lines ended up with Robert E Lee's blood line as King. Funny how things work out.

Monarchies suck. Period.

Throughout history, the obscene corruption, depravity, greed, darkness, heartless meanness of "the chosen blue blood" blood lines - is hard to accept.

Which - (taking this thread in an entire different direction) - came to light via a recent book I listened to. "Laptop from Hell" by Miranda Devine. It is about Hunter Biden's laptop, and before people go discrediting it based on the author, it is mostly recorded, available to public, quotes and writings directly from Hunter, Joe, the rest of the Biden family and his crook friends in the US/China/Russia government.
Yes it is true that Hunter is possibly the most corrupt, unethical, immoral, worthless, mean, criminal, stupid POS human in public life today . Way too much to go into here re: drugs, illicit sex including inside his own family, corruption and swindling of millions by cozying China and Ukraine, etc.

The main point of the book is - both parties - it is so clear there are (at least) two classes of people in US. We don't live in a free representative republic, and likely haven't for decades.

1. There is one class of favored people who can do, say, get, screw, consume, cheat literally whoever or whatever they want - all the power and money in the world is theirs just for the asking and taking, not merit based at all - based on their political name, power, etc. Think Kennedys, Kerrys, Clintons, Obamas, Bushes? Trumps? Bidens

2 - Then there is the other class - all the "suckers", the little people, the plebes who work hard, play by the rules, pay taxes, are fair and ethical and treat people right, and have dignity and earn respect. Group 1 and group 2 are polar opposites.

Group 2 gets screwed so hard in this country by group 1. It is nearing a breaking point.

Anyway - it is a pretty interesting read - especially re: how little regard (zero really) Hunter or Joe have for rule of law, ethics, morality, truth. Sick people.

Many would say we unfortunately live under the rule of King Dementia DumbF--- now; others would say we just got done with being under the rule of King Orange DumbF---

My point is we were never intended to be under the rule of these sorts of people, with way too much power. People wanted a king at time of Washington. He refused, he knew what was so bad about kings, monarchies. There are few if any people as leaders today as wise as the founders were about these sorts of self-government vs. monarchy topics.

What the hell are you mumbling about, you stupid spit-brain? I never said I was going to San Diego. I watched the game at home like most everyone else.

I question:

1 - that our game against Oregon will be a "good game"
Up until the last 20 seconds it was a great game. I have no doubt that you were hoping for an Oregon blowout just so you could be right and I would be wrong. Hence, you're the definition of a true bandwagon fan.

1 - You must be an idiot if you think our football team was anything but mediocre this season.
And anyone who considers a program that went 9-4 in the regular season, won the Coastal Division and a berth in the ACC title game, and had the 25th best overall record (out of 131 FBS programs) in the nation mediocre is an absolute idiot.

I suppose for wimpy kids who never played organized sports growing up it's difficult to grasp the nuances of a team sport like football. Even as an armchair quarterback you suck, and your place is down at the far end of the bench. Or maybe behind the bench with the other pom-pom waving cheerleaders. Put on a skirt, Nancy.

I knew your obsession would have you responding to me today. I need to start paying rent for the space I take up in your head.

Yes, it was a close game. An enjoyable game. The most enjoyable game of the season for me up until the last 3 minutes where Grandpa Mack f*cked it up with terrible play calling, kicking the FG to put us up 6 that did absolutely nothing instead of going for it on 4th and the most egregious time out I’ve ever seen and then not allowing our kicker to at least have a go at it from 57 yards.

The defense played right well. Gray and Echols showed real promise for next year and I’m certainly happy to see that. However, as well as the D played, we botched it all on the last drive and leave all Carolina fans with a bad taste in their mouths for the off-season.

As far as the season, your statements would indicate you’re a simpleton that only looks on the surface. Look at the metrics. Look at the embarrassing schedule we played. We lost to every competent team we played and barely beat bad teams and had a terrible loss to GT. Quick, what was the best win on the season? Duke? Lol. We were fortunate to have beaten duke. Fortunate to have beaten Miami. And fortunate to have beaten UVa. All mediocre teams (mediocre at best). We might have lost those game in years past and winning them is better than losing them. But we were lucky in all 3 games.

Looks like your time as laundry boy for the JV football team gave you a false sense of football acumen.

Mack said post game that he didn't have the leg to make that and apparently the reason he missed the one earlier was because he slipped on the horrible field. Not sure if a FG would have been a good idea when taking that into account. Don't know what I would have done in the moment. You're right about the TO though. That would have given us at least one more play and a manageable FG.

Mack says a lot of things when trying to rationalize a loss. And none of them are ever, “I botched it with terrible game planning, poor play calling and suspect decision making.”

Sure, but I don't think it's a stretch to believe a college kicker doesn't have the leg for a 57 yard field goal. I don't think anyone would disagree that the field was shit either.

That’s hardly the issue though. The series in the red zone the previous possession was atrocious and forced us into having to try and win it in the end.

Not to mention the embarrassing usage of all 3 time outs in the second half. 2 because we couldn’t get our shit together and the last one I guess just because Mack wanted a tougher challenge. 19 seconds and a timeout must have been too easy.

Oh yeah, how about a national championship winning coach not knowing he can’t have two of the same numbers on the field without reporting in? That ridiculous penalty gave Oregon a first down.

I said that in the game thread. How do two people on the same team have the same number. Ridiculous.

You could argue that three losses this season came down to fluke plays and or wtf coaching decisions. (Such as kicking a fg). They were close, real close, to having a very good season. But there’s prob a dozen teams could say the same.

You could also argue we were super fortunate (flukey?) to have won the App game, the duke game, the Miami game and the UVa game. That cuts both ways.

I agree with that.

You want metrics?

According to TeamRankings.com, Carolina came in at 48th nationally in strength of schedule. Not at the top but certainly nowhere close to the bottom. With a 9-4 record for the regular season (again, 25th best in the FBS), especially taking into account the three tough losses to close out the season, and it says anything but mediocrity.

of only moderate quality; not very good.

Certainly our defense still has a host of improvements to make, particularly in the secondary, but consider an offense that was statistically near the top in the nation in passing and receiving (11th) and scoring (26th) and led by a redshirt freshman quarterback who has been in the Heisman conversation since week three of the season.

Saying "we lost to every competent team we played and barely beat bad teams" is absolutely a simpleton way of looking at it. That dook win looks pretty good right now considering their overall record and bowl win, and the fact they were a pretty good team this year under a first-year head coach.

Explain to me, if you can, exactly how we were "lucky" to win against dook, Miami, and Virginia. Because we won all three games by only three points? By that logic, Oregon was extremely lucky to get the win last night. Good teams create their own opportunities, whether you want to call it luck or not.

Last of all, you can second-guess last night's in-game decisions all you want but it doesn't mean you know what you're talking about. Had Mack decided to go for it on 4th and goal and failed, today you would be saying he should have opted for the field goal instead, especially if the Ducks' last extra point had bounced the other way. Had he sent in Noah Burnette to attempt a 57-yard field goal when his career long is only 47 yards, when the ball fell way short you would be complaining he should have gone for the Hail Mary play.

There is no pleasing you backseat pseudo "experts." Complain, complain, complain.

The only way would be to either substantially reduce the rosters and scholarships or go to three-digit numbers on jerseys. Take a look at Carolina's roster and note all the duplicate numbers (divided by the offense and defense).
UNC 2022 football roster
There is no excuse for that penalty.

Are there 100 players on the UNC sideline every game?

I know in the pros, certain positions are limited to certain numbers. Not sure if that's the same for college.
When I was a kid, it used to be that you could tell what position a player was by their number. Kickers and punters were like #1-#5, QBs were #6-#19, RBs were #20-#3, FBs were in the 40s, LBs were the 50s, OL were numbered in the 60s, DL had the 70s, receivers were in the 80s. The DBs had random #s, sometimes. It was an easy system. I don't recall ever seeing 2 players w/the same #s

you could argue even more reasonably more or less the same about our wins...and I have.

I would guess that was partly on Pettaway but to a much greater extent on Larry Porter, the special teams coach. They had to see it coming, knowing Power Echols is a fixture on the punt return team and that Pettaway was filling in this game for Josh Downs. They both wear #23.

The NCAA requires every team to have at least 85 players and up to 105 players on their roster. I'm pretty sure every player on the roster dresses for every game with the exception of those injured.

I mean on the sidelines, suited-up to play. There are enough numbers that no one needs a duplicate #.

Yes, I would say every player on the roster I linked was on the sideline last night and ready at a moment's notice to go into the game with the exception of those on the injury list like Caleb Hood and Noah Taylor, players lost to the transfer portal like Tony Grimes and Storm Duck, and of course Josh Downs who opted out to prepare for the NFL.

Where is the loyalty anymore?
