OOTB's Political Thread . ..

Can we still tell niggger jokes and expect nigggers to chuckle as we laugh? I mean, that way it's clear they still know their place.

so long as they don’t get uppity

you could cut this condescension with a knife, and I don't mean the idiotic attempts at humor but rather the black-man-as-victim-who-I must-rescue arrogance behind it. Has it ever occurred to you dolts to simply treat everybody the same? I bet you both claim to have a small bottle of hot sauce in your purse whenever you meet a black person..

Hot sauce?

not really, although I do have black friends. But when my boys were in high school, their best friend was black; and the wife and I told people he was our third son because he spent so much time in our house. That was a lot of years ago. I consider him a friend and great person even today but distance keeps us from seeing each other enough to say he's a best friend. My boys still consider him to be.

Guess what he never did...he never got into the black victimhood thing. Guess what we never did...we never condescended to him as if he needed special consideration because he is black. We just all treated each other as equals. You should try doing that instead of just yapping your piehole about Jim Crow.

If you can’t see how a black man getting run down and killed by two white guys in a backroad in Georgia doesn’t add another dimension to this, I don’t know what to tell you. If you honestly believe the two men currently imprisoned would have done the exact the same thing if the jogger was white, that’s being naive. You cannot blatantly ignore that race has played a factor here.

It is possible to both focus on putting them in prison and addressing the unfortunate reason why. Both are important.

What if the jogger was a black woman?

Are there any black people in this conversation to condescend to?

your question reveals your lack of reading comprehension and is too stupid to answer. You can always try again if someone will help you try to keep up..

On a fundamental level we agree. Treat people how you would want to be treated. Take them as a person and not their skin color, sexuality, religion, etc.

But there is nuance to this. It’s okay to believe that you should treat everyone equally and also acknowledge that even in today’s society, incidents such as the one in Georgia do occur and that we need to get to a point where it doesn’t happen anymore.

Acknowledging that this man was killed because he was black doesn’t make anyone a whiny lib, or a SJW, or a person with an agenda. It’s recognizing the cause with two objectives to follow: lock the guys up and do more to further racial harmony in the US because we aren’t there yet.

Doesn’t mean you have to feel guilty for being white, or we should pay reparations, or that black people are helpless infants that need rescuing or any of that nonsense.

It’s all part of the bigger conversation.

first of all, this conversation as it involved me was about making hate part of the criminal code. That is and always will be nonsense. It has nothing to do with abating racism and it has nothing to do with justice. It's silly to take me to task for complaining about the lib role in this because it damn sure wasn't a conservative thrust that championed the notion.

There of course is a bigger conversation regarding racism but any excursion into that here has been a sidetrack.to the point at hand. Even so, I am like Teddy Roosevelt who understood that you can't impose legislative fixes on the way people think...you have to simply uphold every person's rights as citizens and allow time to do what time does.

You still don’t get it. Emphasizing race problems doesn’t make people not become racist. I’d argue that it strengthens the feelings of already racist individuals.

Right, so that means placate the feelings of racist people by pretending it doesn’t exist or it’s not a problem?

Aren't where? Exactly where aren't we?

We are not at a point yet where we can say all people who live in our society are treated or judged fairly when it comes to the color of our skin. That bias/tendency still exists.

Fight racism with racism like affirmative action in job hiring and college admissions.

Again this is some really dumb shit. Straight up.

I’ll grant you that in the age we live in there is a discussion to be had about the validity of those laws now. But when they were passed serious roadblocks existed in front of black people from being admitted to college or being hired in certain industries. The circumstances were heavily stacked against them.

So don’t whine and complain about a few laws aimed at leveling the playing field a bit.

Yeah, there was no reason to point out that the millions of people killed by Hitler just happened to be Jews.....

It's ok for @strummingram, he is a card carrying member of the "licensed to use the 'N' word crowd". He conquered his fear of black people a couple of years ago.
I never use "The N word." That's a euphemism that white people invented. I'm not a big fan of euphemisms. Words are innocent. How a person uses the words is what's important. Words aren't racist. PEOPLE are racist. Words are just what we use to communicate our thoughts and feelings.

He dated a black girl. He was very proud of himself for doing so. That means he can say such things.
We didn't just "date", we lived together for a few years. I "dated" several other black girls.

I wasn't "proud of myself" for doing that. If anything, I was ashamed of myself for allowing my family's racist attitudes (or inability to deal with it) toward the relationship to ultimately decide the outcome of the relationship. I have regretted that ever since.

I can say whatever I want, just like you, or anyone else. It's the context that matters.

I am ok with your use of the word. People can use whatever words make them comfortable. It's good to see you have evolved into such a great person who no longer fears being approached by a black person. It's beautiful to see that growth.

I was never in fear being approached by a black person?

150 years removed from slavery

People like that didn’t just disappear overnight and it’s important to recognize that.
Most people certainly don't disappear overnight, but I assure you anyone around 150 years ago has disappeared, and their kids have disappeared too.

Unfortunately racism will never be fully in the rear view mirror. Racists and SJWs are two very strong forces that will never let it die. It's too ingrained in how they both look at the world and they need it to exist.

You said you used to get nervous whenever you'd see a black person coming towards you. You told a story about one of your neighbors being black. It was a few years ago so I don't remember the exact details. I apologize if it wasn't you. But if it was, your growth is amazing and commendable.
