OOTB's Political Thread . ..

And what I am trying to explain is that Trump's position is that since he renegotiated NAFTA and the US came out billions to the plus thanks to concessions from Mexico, they are indeed paying for the wall.

The money has to come from somewhere, right? And in this case, it is coming from increased cash from NAFTA renegotiation.

And I honestly hope that is Trump's legacy. That he got us out of some trade deals where we were taking it in the chin and made them more to our benefit.

This is where I see the possible positive of the Donald Trump presidency.

Jobs up, wages up and troops coming home. These don't move the needle for you?

Not since the New Deal has the economy really hinged on who is President. I don't give even the Presidents I liked credit for any ups or downs. So jobs and wages, eh.

Troops coming home doesn't really move the needle for me either. I'm a big military spend guy so I tend to believe the more boots we have on the ground in other countries the better.

I think his real chance is to fix healthcare (which Congress will probably block) and the reworking of our trade deals.

I continue to be perplexed by the pushback when we're talking about securing our borders. It is bizarre to me that all Americans wouldn't want that.

Not bizarre to me. A quote from Upton Sinclair sums it up perfectly: "It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends upon his not understanding it!"

When Democrat politicians see someone sneaking across the border, they see another vote for themselves. Tough to voluntarily turn away voters, regardless of how it affects anything else.

Then they ask loaded questions to try to get others on their side "This poor family with no money just looking for an opportunity - you wouldn't wanna send those kids back to Mexico to starve, now would you?". Any somewhat sympathetic person will say "Well of course I don't want those kids to starve". They conveniently leave out that plenty of them are doing ok enough for themselves elsewhere, and that paying for them would be taking money from American families and putting some of them in a tough spot.

Try this at home

Tell your wife you’re gonna have a privacy fence built for your safety and your neighbor will pay for it. Tell her you need it cause dozens of would be thieves from your neighbor’s family have been caught trying to come in your yard to break into your home. Promise it to her over her skepticism hundreds of times. Promise it to her despite the fact the neighbor adamantly insists he wont pay for it and she doesnt really want a fence to begin with and that actually not one would be thief has tried breaking in. Confess that yes no thieves came into the yard but that kids are walking on your lawn.

Then tell your wife when its time to build the fence that you’re actually paying for it out of her account funded by her earnings. When she protests tell her you refuse to pay your portion of the bills until she agrees. Tell her the power and phone company will make adjustments. Remind her it will be impossible for thieves to get to your house and if it costs $10k to make one thief climb a fence its worth it.

Explain that you never meant the neighbor will actually pay for it but that your cost will be covered by a great deal you made with the neighbor you accused of being a thief over borrowing tools and helping each other out with chores and projects.

Make your marriage great again

Eta: in light of new data tell her that instead of buying apples at $10/bag from your neighbor that now you are paying $5/bag and if you buy 200 bags you save $1000 and VOILA! The neighbor is paying for the fence! Then tell her she needs to buy 200 bags of apples to pay for the fence.

So you are gonna roll with savings from the USMCA is the same as Mexico making a 1-time payment to the US for a border wall?

Well, it's not exactly the same thing. But money is fungible. Doesn't really matter if the money is gotten from a one time check, or if the money is received by a savings over the course of a few years.... does it?

THIS!!!

Why would you make US families poorer in order to give foreign people a free ride? It's thinking with emotion and not with logic.

Say I bought apples from my neighbor at $10 a bag and then told him to pay $1000 to build my fence, and he refused. But then sold me 200 bags of apples at $5 a bag, well... he just paid $1000 to build my fence.

Actually you just bought 1000 dollars worth of apples. So now you have a bunch of apples to pay for, on top of the fence you still have to pay for. This is the same logic people fall for when they think those coupon books are actually worth thousands of dollars. You'd have to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to realize those savings. Just like how you have to spend an additional 1000 dollars to save that 1000.

You could think of this is as a transfer. But that still doesn't really make sense unless you were already planning to buy 200 bags of apples. Either way, he isn't paying you for anything. Giving you a discount is completely different than just giving you 1000 bucks to build a fence.

Who is saving in this scenario? The government isn't saving anything. There is still basically free trade with Mexico under the new deal. So where is the money coming from? How much of it will there be?

That's a bad comparison, because you're acting like he wasn't going to buy the apples anyways, although he was. Coupons work great if you only use them for what you need. However, you're looking at them from a marketting perspective, which isn't what anyone is talking about.

Which one is emotion and which is "logic?" I mean, you're speaking from a caveman/tribal instinct. Is that "logic?" You said: foreign people... are who exactly? Our lineage stole all of this land we presently live on and exploited the hell out of it.

I'm speaking from a "you only have so many resources" logic. Do you help your own people, or do you let them suffer in order to help another country? Why don't you cut your food budget by $20 a week and send it to me?

My own people? Who are my own people?

Hey, if you wanna start following the 9th and 10th Amendments again, I'm more than willing to play the part of the foreigner. That's a great trade, IMO!

Same idiots are on penny auction sites.

Hardly.

I’m just making fun of an emotional, retarded argument that people use to justify something they want.

People use it for cigarettes, guns, booze, drugs, and now walls.
Don’t expect him

I thought the New Deal originated in the House. Was it implemented through dictatorial fiat or something?

Name names or stfu

Multiple posters on this board went out of their way to try to get Billy and myself banned. Gunslingerdouche was for sure one of them. I can think of at least one poster who cancelled a premium account in protest of us being reinstated, and he made the threat as an attempt to lobby to keep us banned.

You'll have to try harder if you want me to "stfu."
