PRESIDENT TRUMP

Remember how dire and close-to-disaster most of you felt the country was in when Obama was president?

They feel the same now, only their concern is magnified many, many times over. And, apparently, they decided to get together and demonstrate. You don't need to understand. It's pretty obvious that you prefer to not understand. Just be glad some people feel compelled to do it and that we can do it.

I never remember feeling that we were close to disaster. I just always felt we were losing 4 years.

That's because they are a bunch of drama queens.
Like you? Feeling like you lost 4 years? Don't be such a pussy. You didn't lose 4 years at all. You didn't lose 4 seconds.

I'm trying to put it into context for you.

I think you missed my point, which is that they are going way over the top when compared to previous reactions.

But I love that they are drama queens. It's highly entertaining.

Well, maybe they feel more strongly about the situation than you ever did. That happens occasionally, y'know. I don't fully get it myself. But, what I do get is; There's an abundance of distrust and skepticism about this one guy and his administration... just like it was when Obama was in office.

I posted these in the "why Do You March" thread. This pretty over-the-top, too. But, I understand why they were afraid of Obama. I didn't share the SAME fear, but I can empathize with them.

Drama queens indeed. I no more empathize with them than I do with the ones from yesterday.

Militant doesn't necessarily mean violent, it can also mean strongly partisan or radical.
Sooo, not really militant. Partisan, I'll give you that. Radical is definitely in the eyes of the beholder.

ETA:

Just as a goof, I went a step further...

mil·i·tant
ˈmiləd(ə)nt/
adjective
  1. 1.
combative and aggressive in support of a political or social cause, and typically favoring extreme, violent, or confrontational methods.
    "a militant nationalist"
synonyms: aggressive, violent, belligerent, bellicose, vigorous, forceful, active, fierce, combative, pugnacious; More

Well when some of the girls on my campus talk about "bringing down the patriarchy" I consider that pretty radical.
Okay... that's a fair assessment. If I were you, I'd wanna get in touch with the source of the problem rather than trying as hard as I can to remain ignorant to it. I'm sure they're just being hormonal drama queens. That's not very radical.

They march because you don't understand why they're marching.
Reminds me of the scene in Schindler's List when Helen Hirsch was recounting to Schindler the first time the commandant Amon Goethe was beating her up. She said that she asked "Why are you beating me?" He said "The reason I beat you now is because you ask me why I beat you!"

Not really a parallel, but it made me think of it

Militant?

As far as I know, yesterday's events were pretty peaceful. No riots, no destruction, nobody burned or broke anything that was private property. I could be wrong.
I did see some images on Twitter yesterday of property damage (cars) but don't know whether they were real.

What was very real was the assault of white nationalist Richard Spencer, who was sucker punched while giving an interview on the street. The video is easy to find. I don't agree with his views, but what happened to him was absurd. Every bit as bad as Trump's comments about genital grabbing (which he has assuredly done). I hope they catch the perpetrator and he's brought to justice.

Can someone poast a link to all the things that have gotten accomplished as a result of the protesting. Maybe a list of laws/policies that got changed due to the movement? TIA

There's definitely been progress due to protesting and marching. But there's no set goal yesterday or lack of rights. It was more just expressing their displeasure at the man currently in office, which is understandable. But a protest seemed over the top when nothing has happened yet.

That's why I made sure to say "As far as I know..." I still believe there had to have been a few LSD-induced fist fights at Woodstock. Probably during the Sha Na Na performance, I bet.

That's what I chalk it up to but it's still annoying and they still act like their shit doesn't stink. You're either with them or against them.

You think no positive results have come from massive, peaceful protests? I realize you measure results by certain standards. But, for every action there's a reaction. And, if there are millions who showed up to protest, there are likely 10 times that many who feel the same but didn't show up.

There were protests of this man in OTHER COUNTRIES yesterday. This wasn't just a bunch of reborn suffragettes.

Well, I was being facetious (you knew that). I bet their shit stinks. That part, I wouldn't need proof of.

Besides, it's all part of Making America Great Again.

Actually, that's not at all the way it went.
There was an earlier thread where all you did was talk about placing bets. Nothing uttered about "Vegas odds." You were confidant. That's why the dialogue went like this:

HN: You still want to wager?
Zero: Sure but money has to be put up beforehand.
HN: Or if you reeeeeeeally want to bet money, I'm cool with that. How about five grand?
Zero: Let's make it 50 grand.
HN: No, five grand.
Zero: Ok- do you want to give Vegas odds?
HN: Vegas odds? WTF?!?! You're already backpedaling.

As I said, you talk big and then backpedaling is what you do best. That and altering the course of a debate through diversionary tactics like asking asinine and irrelevant questions or for links you could easily research yourself. You've been doing it since day one.

Of course the most comical part is you end it all by claiming some sort of small victory.

So they wasted their time. Got it. Typical Saturday for millennials.

210 protesters were arrested in DC alone on inauguration day. A limo was burned, windows were bashed in, and property was destroyed. A fairly easy thing to look into...

It really sounds, to me, like some folks around here (and in this country) are scared to death that they might actually (gasp!) have to work for something!

(what a concept)

The patriarchy is to blame man, don't you know? Toxic masculinity rules this country
It's definitely a process. And, I can totally understand why they recoil at a man like Donald Trump as their president.

I tell ya... I have a few close friends (chick knows them, too) who are VERY hardcore feminists... big time. A mother and a daughter, specifically. I love them both. They know it. Now, I try, on occasion, to offer some things for them to consider when they include me in a venting/rant session. I don't embody the "chauvinist pig" male to them, so that's good. I like that, actually. I'm not pretending either... just being me. But, I do try to balance the scales a little, just so I'm sure that they know (or are at least considering) that having a penis doesn't equal wants-to-oppress-those-that-don't. I think, deep-down, they know that. But, on the surface, especially in the wake of this election, it's still a fresh wound. Trump is an amalgam of every shitty ex-husband/boyfriend they ever had, or knew about.

If you can pull yourself away from how you're personally invested in the present-day situation, and look at the evolution of women's rights and women's acceptance into a male-dominated society (which there's no denying that), in this country, then I gotta believe you can see how there was a time, not so long ago, when these people couldn't even vote. They feel very offended by the words and actions of a guy like Trump. And, the country's acceptance of someone who has shown such disrespect (in their eyes) for the female of the species.
