Roy/team may skip White House visit

The ONLY and I mean the ONLY thing that would ever turn me from being a TAR HEEL is POLITICS! Shouldn't have any bearing on any damn thing. If they are invited its a once in a life-time chance for these young men.

Totally agree, if the honor of being invited to the white house is extended politics should not get in the way of these kids being honored by the president.

So glad we don't live in a world where your opinion matters. Leave it up to the kids. If they don't want to go, then don't go. I'm not going to cheer for them one day and then call them stupid the next because they disagree with me on issues outside of basketball.

Well, you do live in a world where my (and your) opinion matters. It may not have relevance into the final decision of what the team does.....but the question was posed on a message board.....so no one that I know of in this thread will actually impact if they go.

Cheering for them in a sport has nothing to do with making decisions otherwise. It's not all or nothing for me. I don't know you and you don't know me, but those that do know me will attest to the fact that I would say the same thing if a Coach/team decided not to go to the White House if Obama invited them. It's about the Office and Tradition. No one is asking them to vote for him or anyone. It's actually to honor THEM for their accomplishment.

Yes, it's trivial and stupid if they don't go because of that.

GWB did not invite the '05 team ...per Roy.

Roy said post game when ask and he said in 05' they were invited but it was in September and half were already in NBA camps and everywhere else and it would have been hard to do.

He didnt say he wasnt invited its was just a timing issue!

With that said he should always take the team if invited and if the logistics work out its not about the person in the office that matters its the office of the president that is important and that should be respected!

All kidding aside, Dave, it's not about being honored by the President, no matter who that may be --- as Jefferson would say, that's not all that important in a democracy --- it's about getting to be honored in the White House, and that's a nice thing, again no matter who the occupant may be.

If the current administration extends an invitation under normal circumstances and timetables I would imagine they'll accept, and just hope it doesn't turn it into a "Dear Leader" political showcase... but then again, maybe the players have their own ideas.

Trivial and childish if they don't go. Could you imagine the backlash if a team chose not to go when Obama was in office?
Agreed. It's about respecting the office of the POTUS and allowing the kids to take advantage of the opportunity to visit the White House.

I agree with coach that political affiliation aside, you let the kids decide, but nonetheless, the experience is one they should take in. I'm also not a big fan of people continuing to associate not going to the white house as the "right" thing to do. Because you don't agree with somebody's politics (specifically President Trump), doesn't make your opinion the "right" thing to do
Agreed.

I'm just glad we have all of these clairvoyant posters on here who can tell me exactly what Dean would do in this situation.
I need the winning lottery tickets numbers.

Last I heard, a decision hasn't even been made yet. Isn't this thread a little premature? I know Roy was asked about it cause he is not a fan of Trump, but this is all pretty hypothetical and I can't see this thread ending up any place but eventually in the toilet.

Well, whatever you have I'm sure it includes a BS in Alternative Facts.
Yeah. I always have the facts. If being a know-it-all , make it up as you go douche bag was a curriculum then you would have a doctorate , but it would only be an honorary self bestowed one.

Wow, you missed calling this one right, by a LONG SHOT! ;)

The OP Bleed's topic was a good one to discuss, but once it devolves into political sides.... I get that nobody gives a flying F about my (or others' ???) political views, pertaining to Heels hoops (news flash - it doesn't pertain)....

..... and rightly so.

Fact, Trump's approval rating as of today 35%

http://time.com/4725494/president-donald-trump-approval-rating/

Fact , This is publication that gave him the man of the year 2016.
Fact, majority of americans disagree with his work

You guys are a minority, like or not.

BTW, the way Roy roasted him a couple weeks back, they may not get an invite.
I have no dog in this hunt but I would think after the polls predicted Hillary would win in a landslide people would put less faith in polls and wouldn't refer to them as fact.

I was not a voter of Obama and I did not agree with 99% of his politics but I would have in a second went to the White House if invited and would have cherished the chance to meet him, and the invite to his home.

This should never be even a question as to if he would take the team if invited are you kidding me? Who says all the players that are on this team feel the same way about the POTUS?

This could be reaching but who is to say that a recruit somewhere that Roy is courting has strong feelings about this the other way around and even thou another coach feels the same way Roy does but doesn't bring it up in post game pressers or where ever and he get the player because of this.

Its always best to just steer clear of this stuff and coach and recruit basketball!

how many here have participated in an approval poll?

I guess less than 5-10%.

Point being, "polls" especially those political in nature are of such a small sample size that they aren't an accurate depiction no matter who is in office. Example: president wins election with 55% of popular vote. First day in office approval rating of 45%. Makes sense.......(sarcasm)

That's right it all about who you poll if you go to Chapel Hill and take a poll of what is you favorite ACC team guess who will win?

Agree all day long.

Most polls had her with a 3-5% lead on election day. She won by 3%.

Polling is all about how you phrase the question. You ask/phrase it right and you can get the desired result. Polling is more about driving a narrative , especially with certain outlets.

Here is the link, at the 3:45 mark he says "...in 2005 we didn't get invited."

Maybe it's like the social media/Twitter deal ...one day he says he has no clue about "that Twitter stuff, never reads it" ...then says "our President uses Twitter too much." Different answers depending on his mood.

Roy said they did get invited , but it was late. It was on a different interview. I can't remember what network.

Good for Roy. This isn't about Republican/Democrat or right vs left. Its about refusing to normalize the fact that we have a russian clown puppet in the oval office.
