Coronavirus

Yeah it seems kind of weird to wait for someone else to give you permissions to pull your own kids out of school lol

You are missing the point I'm not taking my kids out because I'm not worried about this virus, my point is why if this is so bad and all these leaders and the NC governor is telling us in our personal lives to stay out of public places because of the spread of the virus. Why haven't they shut down the schools yet. Sounds like a logical question right are our kids safety not important enough to protect them?

dude the people that run sporting events aren’t the same ones that dictate if your kids school closes. If you don’t want them in school TAKE THEM THE FUK OUT

omfg

@Hark_The_Sound_2010 you “liked” this??!! Really??!!!

I don't want to take them out I don't think taking them out is going to solve anything my question is why hasn't the local government done something about the school since it isn't safe to meet in places with crowds or gathering with 100 or more people but school goes on.

I guarantee your local schools are weighing their response, balancing safety vs. instruction as they don't want to cancel any more school than they have to - you know, since it's like their job to educate our kids. They can't just move online like colleges and universities (believe me, it's enough of a challenge at this level) since many of the kids don't have internet access and may not even get a meal if they aren't in school.

But with everything else that's been canceled or postponed I imagine most districts will be doing something rather than nothing, and sooner rather than later.

Cancelling a single event is nowhere near as big of a logistical challenge as shutting down public schools. IMO they should be closed down but it makes sense for it to take a little longer to figure out the best way to proceed with that decision.

what are you saying the govt should do then?

So you do want them to shut down the schools but you won’t take your kids out if they don’t.

Kids most likely will not be excused if he were to take them out. I see the point he makes. I hear there are places closing schools, so honestly it a matter of time before it happens. Not sure why everyone needs to pound on him for raising a valid question.
It's much better than the Bern saying the casualties will be greater than WW2.

If i felt it was unsafe for my kids to be in school they wouldn’t be regardless if excused or not. So it’s an absurd question if you ask me.

Do you agree that according to the media that this is a huge problem a pandemic so if shutting down travel into the country and all the events being cancelled and according to Roy Cooper we should hold or attend events with 50 or more people why hasn't schools and US air travel been shut down.

You worry about logistics later when there is huge danger to the USA!

I would as well. But given all the reaction this week, keeping the kids in school is really surprising. Even our church has been asked to cancel services. If it escalades much, then they will be next. As will nonessential personnel in local government positions.

That was a hell of a run on sentence. I already said that I think public schools should be closed down.

On a side note, since disney shut down, I reserved another vacation in may. I called today to move my money to the new reservation. The guy moved us to a higher end resort with a Savannah view at animal kingdom lodge and saved me 1000 dollar. I'm stoked. Told the guy if they are still shutdown then, I was coming with my family Clark griswold style

No it's not I don't feel like it's unsafe I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy. Get it?

So you’re saying it’s hypocritical that the govt isn’t closing down the schools and air travel. At the same time you say they dont need to close down the schools. As an example of this hypocrisy you point out that sporting events are shut down and the gov recommends avoiding large social gatherings. But the govt had nothing to do with shutting down the sporting events and the gov wouldn’t be the one making the call on closing schools. Each district decides for themselves and SOME HAVE ALREADY CLOSED.

So no I don’t get it

Guess I should have went ahead and booked my vacation before they closed so I could have gotten a free upgrade.

okay so tell us who this hypocrite is that has shut down sporting events across the us who should’ve also shutdown public schools and air travel in the us. Name that bastard.

good to see trump isn’t adhering to the advice of a lead scientist and self-quarantining.
Is it really possible for a president to stay away from everyone for two weeks? That's not really a job set up to be done remotely.

you think it’s a bad look when it’s recommended for everyone else?

i believe it could be done...i’m sure there are unknown as well as publicly known spots he could go...think about it as if it were war time...besides, it’s not a country emergency, it’s a world emergency...people would understand, especially if he was expected to be traveling or hosting.

at the very least, fauci is directly behind him and has yelled it out, “quarantine yourself if in known contact.”

I don’t think people understand how hard this is on senior college athletes at every level. If you play in college, even if you are a 3rd string right fielder on a D3 team, you invest a lot of yourself in the sport and you know senior year is the last year you will ever really be part of a team. Having it end this abruptly is not easy. I know it will pass, but things really suck for them right now.

How did we ever manage up until 1857? My mom (who is 74) still remembers her grandfather's outhouse in rural central VA and catalogs and newspaper being stacked to wipe... and this was in like 1951-52.
I was just having this conversation with someone the other day. Most people alive today don't realize that indoor plumbing wasn't a common luxury in urban areas until the early 1900s. In rural areas, it happened much later, not until after WWII in many places.
Bassett... out near Fairy Stone State Park
Beautiful country there. I've been kayaking on Philpott Lake a few times, including a 4-day stint camping on Deer Island when I was between jobs. Certainly not as glamorous as an international vacation but in some ways far more enjoyable. Give me a beautiful lake to paddle, a hammock, a good book, and a campfire. The adult beverages and nighttime swims are just a bonus.

So now they are clearing out baby formula so people can have dry milk. My son managed to get one of the last containers for his 3 month old.

Bernie is the left's version of Trump. A populist demagogue peddling idealistic fantasies to rubes who don't understand how governance works.

A lot of rubes just got mad at me.

Not what he said. He said his administration's response to the Coronavirus is the new hoax from democrats.

the president sat in front of his cabinet and the media on wednesday and said “fake news” to cnn reporting about the virus and testing...i’m only pointing out how out of touch he is compared to his “task force”...you dig?

let’s also remind everyone how he dismisses female reporters like their questions don’t matter or are even insensitive.

but hey, he’s the man...cause i don’t know why.

Bassett is sort of the nearest big town. It's not far from the Smith River and Fairy Stone Park is a big attraction. It is beautiful.

And...

My mom has a jarful of them.

My great grandfather (I never knew) was was a rustic in the truest sense, literally. He hooked up a pump from the water source into the kitchen. No electricity. When he finally had to come live with my mom and grandparents, he couldn't handle the modernity. He was afraid of the TV- he thought Amos and Andy were going to come out of the box- he screamed at it, so he avoided the living room. He died of a heart attack trying to get back - on foot- to the old house. I dunno if he ever used toilet paper, however, to keep on track of the thread.

But, that old house is still up there. About 33 years ago (the only time I ever saw it), some really rich guy had bought it and kept the original house intact in the front and built a HUGE addition onto the back that was 10 times the size of the "old home place.". It was under construction when we were there. My grandmother and great aunt showed me where all kinds of things happened. And, yes, even where the outhouse was located.

Trump supporters are like little ducklings following their mom around. He quacks some nonsense about this virus not being a big deal, and a conspiracy to make him look bad, and basically all of his supporters come on here and repeat exactly what he’s saying.

But of course they only really like him because he pisses off liberals.
Something like this happening was what scared a lot of people about Trump during the election.

Yeah, he isn't a very good speaker. I don't think out of context quotes are needed to prove that imho.

not a single reported case here in columbia, but the super and gov are monitoring it...so much so that all field trips are done, student visitation by family and only in the offices, buses are being wiped down, etc...in our district, laptops are provided for every student, so being home bound for a month isn’t a big deal if parents can arrange it(luckily we can)...the sc high school league is meeting monday to discuss sports.
