Fire Hubert

He is at a marquee program for that conference. It is a big move up. He is getting the doors blown off him. I think he will be fine, but he is having a Hubert 1st year. Well worse.

Definitely not worse. It's at least even. Probably a little better considering what he stepped into.

They also have a win over a top 20 team.
Very early Illinois win was nice, showed the talent level, he is struggling worse then Hubert in year one in that conference that Cincinnati shouldn't. Some BAD loses to teams well below them. Cincy hopefully will have more sense then to jump to the get the pitchforks out approach in year one.

Agree. It’s equal or better considering the team he inherited.
I disagree, considering who they are losing to. Doors blown out against good Houston, OK same. BAD loses. Cincy will not accept that level, but they also won't over react to his initial struggle.

Hubert is in way over his head. Hasn't developed a bench all season. Harris with classwork problems and I don't care what anyone says Garcia has taken his ball and gone home for good. Who goes home for 3 weeks and basically says *uck my teammates and coaches. Walton,Dunn and Styles not getting some minutes is absolutely inexcusable.

Don't underestimate the first black coach and race factor when when trying to predict the amount of time he will get. It sucks to have to say that but it is a factor. Accusations will be cast when and if he is let go.

I think there are going to be quite a few players leaving after this season, maybe that helps with some internal problem if there is any. But does anyone think there was a chance that Kessler may have left after last season because he came to Carolina to play for Roy and not someone else? Maybe his family thought the choice to hire Hubert was a mistake like we did?

No one has a clue what Styles and Dunn can do during a game not even Hubert because he has hardly played them in a game. And no one can say maybe they don't play defense in practice because there a more than one that gets huge minutes that couldn't play even okay defense in a wheelchair league!

The entire season has become a mystery wrapped in a riddle inside an enigma!

How about we just wait until we get to that point? Or, maybe just get a little closer, in general, to anything? He's barely through his first season. You're creating a scenario that doesn't exist and doesn't need to exist, and going even further with speculating on how that MIGHT turn out. Who is under or over-estimating it AT ALL? Apparently, you are.

I agree with a lot of that post, particularly the part about Garcia. This just doesn't happen in the middle of the season with the kid involved coming back. Doesn't pass the smell test at all.

I think it's important to remember that both dook and Kentucky sucked last year, so you can get well very quickly. It's about making the right personnel moves, and it's a constant process these days.

Nice look at what a good coach can do with mediocre talent. Uva tight with duke
Yep. We got slaughtered by Duke at HOME! Virginia has way less talent than we do. We have top 10 talent on paper. More 4 and 5 stars combined than any team in the country not named Kentucky or Duke. Yet we can't win. Are these players busts based on their ratings? Maybe some of them, especially Love. But I can't blame every single player on this team not named Bacot as the problem (by saying that they are just not that good). At some point, you have to say its the coaching.

Virginia has been crap this year though. Very bad, so that does not matter?

Better watch out. The Hubert apologists will have your head on a stick for that last sentence. Trust me, I know. I've been there.

Hubert needs to rethink his assistant coaches. He needs to hire someone that can teach defense. I don't see the coaching staff make any adjustments when things go bad. I also feel like he is so determined to go away from the way Roy ran the offense with two bigs, that it's made the team softer. Carolina was known for having bigs down low that were gonna dominate the glass and pile up points on offensive rebounds. They were still able to shoot lots of threes when shooters were on the team like Cam, Coby, Justin, Marcus, and Joel. I just don't see the need to totally reinvent the wheel. Not a lot of set plays and not even any of the set alley oop plays that Roy, Dean and Gut ran to get a guaranteed bucket. Hubert will be given time, but he needs to step it up.

The premise of the 4 out (stretch 4) is to give a ball handling guard the ability to penetrate the lane and kick back out to spot up shooters that can actually knock the shots down. It is very dependent on guards making good decisions and that is where it is breaking down for us, poor decisions being made. So what we have ended up with is the only 2 guys we have that are playing point for us are slow footed, poor ball handlers, poor decision makers that end up taking harder shots than needed with a high TO rate. To compound things neither defend well for this level of play. But both can score in a given game and it kind of baffles me. So many can see that Kerwin struggles to defend, that Manek struggles to defend, while opponents are blowing by Caleb and RJ at will and for most of the 40mins?

And we can make the case to sit a guy that is not playing the way he is coached to play, sure we (Hubert) can sit Caleb but who does he put at the 2? Sure he can sit RJ but other than Caleb who plays the point? Leaky? Ant was able to come in and help a lot of this with his ability/desire to defend and energy but now he is not available and Dunn simply is not ready for the PT so many seem fixated on him deserving? Really, not to come off harsh but if Dunn were to leave how much would it hurt us? He has not produced this season so if we lose a guy that was not producing it is rather easy to get over the sting of that loss. No offense to the kid but you know where you stand on your team, you either can or can not beat out those ahead of you for PT.

Do you really think Dunn is just as ready to play right now as the guys he is behind in pecking order? I really have not yet seem much from him as a Tar Heel player that screams to me he is a guy that is ready to play outside of mop up minutes. You have to realize that if Hubert really felt Dunn could have helped (more than Caleb) that he would have pulled Caleb in those last 10mins in that OT game and put Dunn in. Dunn not only knows where he stands on this team for this season but he knew this coming to UNC, that his PT was just going to be limited considering who was ahead of him for PT at his position.

Dunn can now do 1 of 2 things, he can decide that it is just to steep a hill for him to climb (to earn solid PT at UNC) or he can re-double his effort in practice and his own time to just get better every day. If he takes the later path he will find in time that getting better each day over time turns out a better player that will have all the PT he ever wanted. Or he can go to a lesser competitive program or a program that has a depth problem at his position and not have to work as hard for his time and maybe become the big fish in that smaller pond.

spot on regarding our guard play. even when we perceive Caleb and Love to have good scoring games, if we actually look at how inefficient they were to get those pts, its pretty glaring. usually they shoot 12-15x or more at about a 33% clip and routinely have 3-4-5 turnovers. not good.

Poorly worded. Which UNC player has dramatically improved from last season? Where have our coaches shined?

both walkers had big jumps.
Bacot. I'm just saying Cincinnati is not doing well either. He and Hubert are coming out very similar. Cincy more issues. I think they both deserve time. Rooting for them both, but if one gets a pass and the other is in over his head, then you came with that idea.

Love also he was bad last year. He'll, as axteam was awful shooting. He and Caleb much improved. Caleb has not met what his strengths were suppose to be though. Struggles trying to finish.

Are we still looking to fire Hubert today? I don't shrink away no matter if we win or lose so I can enjoy asking this question after every game.

Great look ??,,,,
Yup. We defend the inbounder and Clemson is shooting a desperation heave around half court.

By not defending the inbounder they were able to run the exact play Brownell drew up, make an easy pass to Hall at half court, and get it to a wide open shooter at the 3pt line.

There is no debate here. Hubert made a monumental mistake by not defending the inbounder, and he's being dragged by the media talking heads on social media and on TV for it.

I wouldn’t consider Love and Davis slow-footed. They’re just not good at running an offense.
Really, compared to me they are not slow at all but dang, I am about to qualify for medicare! LOL For this level of play our guards can not be considered quick! If they were they were they would not be blown by as often as they are...

So not defending the in bounder, which by definition means we are defending 5 on 4 and that is some how a problem for you in a game we just won? You want to explain?

Absolutely nothing matters after a game ends except the scoreboard and a scoreboard never lies…

I concur. Guarding the inbounds pass is the smart play. UK lost to d00k in the title game because Pitino didn’t guard Grant Hill’s inbounds pass. They compounded the mistake by putting the extra defender behind Laettner and not fronting him, allowing a long, uncontested pass to Laettner who turned and scored. Absolute brain fart by Rick Pitino. Cost him a title.
