If Roy would have won the National Championship game in 03 at Kansas there is no question he is top 5. If he won the natty at Kansas in 03 and 16 at Carolina and Marshall don't get hurt in 12 and he wins that one or he wins the 08 championship he would no question be the best ever!
Roy definitely should've won 1 or 2 at KU: 03 and 97(?). As for 08 & 16, had we won those years, I don't feel like we would've gone back-to-back either time as dudes would either have left, or not have the same drive for redemption that they had in 09 & 17. However, we damn sure would've been in the finals in 12 and IMO, Heels were better than 50/50 to beat UK. (I will forever wish failure on creatin and mcderfart).
Roy should have 5 or 6 rings, and you're right - he'd no doubt be on the Mt. Rushmore. Regardless he's still in that next 4. As Heels fans we've been blessed to have two of the best ever.

The team played really well and got a needed win. Let’s see how things go when we play a competent team at Durham. That’s a better measuring stick than FSU who is down to their benchwarmers due to injuries.
Yeah... I dunno what happened there. A lot of it was sloppy play and poor execution- going through the motions with a huge lead. The bench got a lot of PT as did the scrubs.
We are 17-0 against teams that don’t qualify as a quad 1 win, so we beat who we should. We are 1-7 against teams that would qualify as a quad 1 win. The ACC is horrible this year and we are in the conversation as a last 4 in. That’s nothing to pound my chest about as a long time Carolina can and alum.

It is nothing to dismiss either. Many teams lose to like level or below level teams. Some other threads have called teams losing to lower teams, or getting blown out by like level teams as "overarching".
Tier 1 wins are IMPORTANT, not underachieving and having bad losses is equally important. Winning the same level tier 2 is important. Each can speak to coaching. We are excellent at two of them, and very poor at the other with the manner in which we have failed in tier 1 games.

However, he should absolutely NOT have been hired as the coach of a program like UNC without a single second being a head coach. For all the good Roy did for UNC, it is looking like he royally screwed the program with this hire. Yes I said Roy and not Bubba made the hire.

Guessing you folks are gassing up the fire Hubert band wagon so it can drive all night? OR, is that no longer a thing? LOL
Hubert wants to win and the players want to win. I think that was displayed tonite even in the loss. The want to win has no relationship to the preparation to win. Huberts job is to ensure the team is prepared with offensive and defensive systems/options/adjustments to be called upon during the 40 minute battle. His system is just a very simple, elementary, unsophisticated basketball process that allows great talent to fumble thru attempted execution under pressure. The level of difficulty in execution is unnecessarily high. The eye test or just the general overall feeling after viewing this game is Hubert is over whelmed by the position. UNC is not prepared to win. Hubert had little influence in the course of this game. The game just plays out, hoping we have enough players that are hot enough, long enough to pull out a W. That didn't happen.
I have to give you credit for showing up on this thread tonight after that performance.
Hubert Davis is a nice person and a terrible head basketball coach. No amount of messageboard chatter is going to change those facts. He will eventually be replaced as the head coach of UNC. The only question is when does it happen?
The sad thing is i think if he gets the job 10 years ago he probably thrives. Nowadays theres too much roster turnover every year with the transfer portal and too many other avenues to play professionally that you cant just rely on every 3 out of 4 players you recruit staying 4 years and having natural development, chemistry and continuity. The playing field has been leveled and going forward its going to be about the coaches that run a good enough system with enough structure that it can be plug and play instead of just relying on outrecruiting everyone else
Davis and Love got their 35+ minutes, so Hubert should be happy. Isn’t playing them the entire time his game plan?
That doesn’t sound like a sport I care to follow. If I wanted that kind of entertainment, I’d just watch the NBA, which is exactly that only better than college.
Davis will get at least three seasons regardless of record barring some sort of misconduct or player revolt. So get used to him.
Unfortunately college basketball will never be great again like it was just 5 years ago. The path now taken can not be reversed. The only question is how much worse will it get over the next 5 years.
Agreed. That's why the constant crying about his hiring from some is so cotdamn tiresome.
