No we wont stop whining about it. We true fans have to watch this crap constantly! I think its pretty normal for a fan to be upset with their team knowing they have to go through this mess for years to come, all because we have a moron AD that didnt take charge himself and listened to Roy tell him Hubert was the man for the job.
I too think it's normal to be upset. Or at least, "sports upset", meaning, hopefully you are grounded enough to know that how your favorite basketball team performs really shouldn't be that big of a deal in your life. Or you're in your 20s in which case, I'll allow your over the top fandom as we all were there once.
However, we have all established that this season sucks. We have all established that the hiring of Hubert was suspect. We have all established that next year looks grim. Ok. Now what? Continue to rail against it all? Does that make you feel better? Does it help the team perform better? Do you think Bubba is reading message boards and because of all these mad comments he's going to immediately pull the plug on the Hubert experiment? What is the end goal of continuing to harp on it? Serious question.
I like Hubert Davis as a person but one thing that jumps out at me during his radio shows is how he laughs a LOT. I know that's a weird thing to bring up, but it's very noticeable and it got me thinking about other coaches. I couldn't think of a single successful coach that doesn't have a more serious demeanor during media events with maybe a cracked/sideways smile at times. I even struggled to think of other coaches, successful or not, who laughed this much outside of maybe Jim Valvano.
It's not a criticism, but it does make me wonder if there's something about his personality that will make coaching challenging--maybe not wanting to be the bad guy with the players?
Just an observation. I really would like to see him be successful here at UNC and not just because it means UNC is successful.

Maybe Al McGuire and Rick Majarus, Bones McKinney? Valvano is a good call. The interview sense of humor doesn't bother me though.
LOL "serious question". No it's not. You do this dipshit act every time people voice their displeasures with something going on at UNC. Recruiting, Roy's lack of timeouts, etc.
Here's a "serious question": Are you wilfully ignorant or actually? How do you post on a message board for over 15 years and still fail to comprehend how one works? What do you get out of feigning stupid and trying to curtail any discussions here that's not positive to you? Do you realize that no one is asking you to read this thread nor any of the posts you seem so concerned about people "harping on"? Why continue to subject yourself to them?
So true fans wanted the AD to ignore the advice of arguably the greatest coach in UNC history? True fans also wanted a first time coach fired in January because a team that has been poor for two years started worse than those 'true fans' wanted? True fans wanted a coach to magically turn around a program that hasn't been UNC BASKETBALL for several years?
I'm not doubting the fandom of those 'true' fans, but the predominant streak I see in them is they are either young, or unrealistic and impulsive (note: those aren't mutually exclusive).
And to repeat, I have no idea if Hubert will be a great or terrible coach. I do know he was dealt a tough hand given the state of the program and the coach he is following up. I have little doubt UNC will see a lot of players leave after this year because that happens after the first year of every coach. And I have no doubt the 'true' fans will be screaming he's destroying the program along the way. I also know he's put the bulk of his life into UNC and has the trust of the people who know way better than us, so I think - at least to me - he's earned a chance.
Yes this is from a sports aspect, doesn't impact my personal life. However, even if Bubba doesn't read message boards, he should be thinking the same way we are. Would you consider him a good AD if he keeps Hubert around for 3+ years if we aren't competing for a national title? I know it is almost impossible to get fired after 1 season no matter who you are, but doesnt mean impossible... Willie Taggart football coach at FSU was fired mid-season in 2nd year, Gillispie was fired after 2 at Kentucky. We cannot keep him around for 3+ years if we aren't improving each season.

But that’s not even the point I’ve been making. Roseheel got sand in her vagina because I like to point out how mundane and tiresome these same “discussions” are and how they happen in almost every thread. Pfft. These are not discussions. These are grown men crying because they’re favorite basketball team is not performing well because of a brand new coach. I don’t mind having discussions. I’m for that. But what is the point of the same discussions over and over? Just to pass the time? I mean, I’m hoping you realize that the discussions we have on message boards lead to nothing. There will be no change based on the discussions happening in these threads. I’m sure Bubba has a timeline with Hubert and will stick to it. What I think of Bubba and his AD duties doesn’t mean squat. I don’t donate to the Rams club. And unless you do at a significant level, what you think of Bubba doesn’t mean anything either.
So if we’re just doing this Hubert bashing and hypothetical thinking just for something to do, I won’t stand in the way. I may heckle it from afar, but by all means, don’t let me stop these high level, productive discussions from happening.
Well, my choices are to watch the games or not watch the games. I've watched about 10 minutes total of dook, FSU, and Pitt combined. Now, to be fair, I've lost some interest in the last few years because of the revolving door that is CBB, but I still watched for the most part, even though a lot of the fun had been taken out of it. This teams takes all the fun out of watching. If things continue as they are right now though, more and more people will turn it off. Hopefully, the last few years are a blip on the radar, but we show all the signs of a program that is in a pretty steep decline.
I dont know if the players want to win.

I think some of them want to. I think Leaky, Brady, and RJ want to, for sure. They fight. I think maybe some of the bench players want to, as well.
I'm not sure if Armando fights... I'm not sure it's "Carolina first" for him. It might be, it's harder to tell.
Caleb is a mystery. I think he's more concerned about his next step. Cole Anthony was like that, Nas Little was like that. Coby White was NOT like that.
Players with a mindset that want to win like say
Ford, Hansbrough, Jordan, Karl to name a select few. Versus many of Roy’s last several recruiting classes!

Leaky just started acting like he cares. Brady fights but is a liability on defense. Bacot seems to be an island type of guy to me.
RJ tries but his height is a problem as you saw last night and he just can’t stay in front of his man.
Love problem is that he defers too much. The coach tells him to go inside to Bacot and he overdoes it….sometimes turning it over to try to get the ball inside. Last night he didn’t take a shot until about the 7 minute mark. Then he went on a tear.
I think Hubert should change our style of play for the guards instead of Bacot. RJ thrives in an up tempo game and so does Love. This half court old style game is a thing of the past. Roy won because he played an up tempo game for much of his career. His big men ran the floor….and had to if they wanted to thrive in that offense. We play a style that benefits one guy.
I am here, accuse me of a lot but I do not run off and hide, I PROUDLY stand by my words, and they have not changed, no matter the out come of this game or this season. It is rare actually that I post anything same night after a game, and that isn't going to happen after a loss.
It gets harder to be able to find those kids that have a level of talent that you want at a program like UNC that bring that refuse to lose mindset, as well as the love and passion for playing for a college program. Now days it is more about the individual than a team, they have already been taught before they get to college that teams and team mates mean less than you think, that all that matters is stuffing the stat sheets so the NBA looks at them. And you wonder why Caleb goes on those useless hero ball jags, it shouldn't surprise any of us.
I would love to see up tempo. But you have to let the bench play 10 - 12 minutes to keep fresh legs.
Yeap forgot to mention that. Because our guards play so many minutes, the opposing coaches make sure our guards are constantly chasing their guards through tubs and screens.
They are tired by half time. Dunn, Puff, Styles and Walton should get regular sub minutes.
If we played up tempo, Hubert would have to rest them….and play the bench…even if don’t want to.
Wanting to win is merely the desire to win. Its a very low bar and if UNC is below it, they have more problems that even messages boards can conjure up.
If the coach the previous 2 years had left UNC basketball slip, should that coach have been allowed to name his successor? If that named successor had been the top assistant during that 2 year decline, should anybody have wanted him as successor?
Should and shouldn't are impediments a lot of the time. You either do something or you don't do it. In this case, the former is the reality. It's done.

You are avoiding answering the questions. There are things done that were wrong to do and should be corrected and not repeated.
We’ve become nothing in a sport that has become nothing. It’s sad.
There is no answer. Should-have questions are futile. They're wastes of time. And, they're especially wasteful when you have absolutely no way to change it, and you weren't even considered in the way things played-out.
Drive your geniusness down to the basketball offices tomorrow and tell them what they "should have" done, and what they "should do", and hopefully the Orange County Sheriff's Department will allow you to use your smartphone so you can report back here just how unsuccessful your efforts were after you're locked-up.

These types of responses have always seemed weak to me. You can say the exact same thing about almost anything. Music, movies, religion, politics. We still talk about those even though we don't have any impact on them. So, I guess anybody who wants to use that argument should just shut up themselves.

Davis is the coach. He's going to be the coach. Whatever should have happened is irrelevant and opinion. Refusing to accept what did happen is weak. He does the same thing regarding the football coaches. I may not agree with their decisions, but I have no control over it. Sure, we can go on and on about what should have happened...and, we are...but, it's not going to change anything.

You are 100% correct. I doubt Bubba is on here (or Roy for that matter).
But isn't that really what message boards are for? Most topics discussed on message boards, social media, etc....aren't discussed in those forums by the actual decision makers of those topics. Yes, topics are discussed, sometimes beat to death, but that the beauty of it is it is an "opt-in" type of scenario if people want to participate. Adding the fact that not everyone wanting to voice an opinion is involved at the same time as others....topics can extend. They will only extend if people want to talk about them. If they don't, a new topic will present itself.
