Hubert Davis…RESIGN

I am sure that I am not the only observer that has noticed opponents in the last month have really attacked RJ Davis because of his size. I agree he is a tough nut and has taken a physical beating the last couple of games but he is still getting picked on defensively…
Also, RJ is our most consistent shooter. I would make him guard and run him into a million ball screens to try to get him tired in the second halves.

There’s a strong likelihood that if RJ isn’t making 3’s we’re shooting 25% or worse from 3.

Totally agree, without RJ making shots we have no dependable outside threat. Unfortunately, he has some defensive lapse which most of our players do.

I would rather have RJ shoot 20 times per game than Caleb.. The problem is RJ goes games where he doesn't shoot that many shots which results in a poor performance.. and if RJ doesnt score, we usually struggle. We need RJ to step up and be a leader every single game. If RJ and Bacot could both go for 18+ per night and every else follow up with decent performances, we could be fine. But our NUMBER 1 problem is Pete Nance. What does he bring to the court? He is very inconsistent and the offense flows terribly with him in the game. Watch last year with Manek how well the offense flowed versus now. Until our offense can flow at a consistent level, it is going to be a struggle every game. Honestly, id rather play Nickel every single game 25+ minutes over Nance. At least he hustles and isnt afraid to shoot the 3. We need someone that is going to scare other teams on the perimeter and make the offense flow and open up more.

At least give him a chance. If Nickel becomes the ace 3 point shooter we all think he can, that would change the entire complexion of the offense and open up things for Bacot more as well.

Perhaps play Nance more as the back-up center to keep Bacot healthy and rested.

Calling for Hubert to resign is the dumbest idea in the world, especially with the best class - as currently ranked - coming in 2024. All coaches deserve several years and to coach their own recruits.
I must strongly agree with you Coach Davis needs a fair opportunity to build the program. This post asking him to resign is just plain selfish and Stupid…The post gets my vote as the most ignorant one of the year but the year is still young…

I want to see him with legitimate elite level talent. Roy's Final Four teams were always stacked with elite top 25 guys. They may have not translated to the NBA, but the 2016-17 title team (Roy's least talented title team) had 5 players in the top 25. This year's team has 2 and one of them is Caleb Love, who has oatmeal for brains basketball IQ.

This is a fake-talented team. They're honestly not underachieving by a ton relative to their talent. They're underachieving a ton because they went on an insane March run and people expected that to carry over for the full season.

First off, while I agree that RJ is the best shooter from outside among the starters, I do NOT think RJ is the only shooter we have. I think Nickel can light it up if he got the PT, I think Dunn can as well. Would like to have seen more PT for them both consistently earlier this season so that by this time in the season they would have gathered some solid game experience.

But their PT has been so choppy, they come in and play well one game and get decent minutes and the next game they get the hook after 2mins and you don't see them again?

No he didn't. He didn't even earn the starting job until Dawson Garcia left the team.

He was great down the stretch, but so were RJ, Caleb, and Mando and Leaky was a lockdown defensive specialist. It was far from Manek's team.
Not true. He and García rotated starting. Manek had the first basket of the year for UNC last year, which was a 3. He had 20 in his debut…a game he started.

This team may not be as talented as they showed last season at the end of the year. But not being prepared, playing terrible defense, and total lack if effort is a coaching issue.

I just want to know how long we have to tolerate mediocrity until either he somehow stages the greatest comeback to a turbulent start to a career since Coach K in 1986, or all that good-will from the tourney run is finally exhausted and we can stop indulging Roy and co's elitists UNC-Only Head Coach fantasy philosophies.

It seems like several of the players don’t respect HD enough to even play hard. That may be resulting from Hubert refusing to discipline Love for his selfish play all year.

Hubert needs to stop being Mr. Nice guy who befriends the players and command respect. He can start by benching certain players when they don’t do what they’re taught.

Hubert is going nowhere. Now if next year doesn’t see marked improvement, there will be more serious voices howling for a change. But being Roy’s hand picked successor gives him a pretty long leash in my opinion. Bubba might want to make a change if next year is another disappointment. But Roy still probably has more power with the power brokers and big donors in Chapel Hill. And so don’t think Bubba wants that power struggle. He would lose. And he is going to be under enough pressure next year with what he does with another coach if football doesn’t really make a surge

Unfortunately, we are stuck with him for a few years and who knows if Carolina will recover after he makes us into the next IU/UConn.

He’s not going to turn into some great coach. We have a two year sample size at this point and his team and his players have not improved at all. Heck, they may have regressed. He’s scrapped the entire blueprint of Carolina basketball that worked the last 50 years in exchange for freakin NBA system that’s boring to watch and hasn’t been working.

He fired Steve Robinson because he didn’t have a Carolina degree and filled his staff with sub-par assistants because they were alum.

I just see no way he is the answer but somebody has to be the fall guy. It almost always happens to the guy that follows a legend. The next hire will be critical to get right and we’ve got to drop the arrogance that it has to be a Carolina guy. We hired one of those and he immediately implemented a system that looks nothing like Carolina basketball.

I wonder what it was like as a UConn fan during the Calhoun years or a Michigan St fan when Izzo was in his prime. Just knowing no matter who had the better team, you were gonna have a chance to win because of who was on the bench coaching. I feel like we have a chance to lose every game because of who we have coaching

thats the most ironic part about the whole thing. we stay within the family and the guy we hired has scrapped every resemblance of carolina scheme known to man. you can’t make it up at this point. it’s so bad.

Hubert is a piss poor coach. The fact that UNC was down nearly 25 at the half speaks volumes. Only 1 Quad 1 win the whole year. They fought back at the end but where was this fight the first 35 minutes? That's all on coaching. I don't think the players even listen to him or believe in him.

So you know, most everyone here has put you on ignore just like I just did. Why is a Pitt poster / troll posting meaningless empty uninsightful stuff on a non - Pitt board?

I like the back and forth here, and truly appreciate some of the cogent takes, but listening to the majority of comments I certainly understand the ABC sentiment from other ACC schools. Sheesh!!! Entitled IDIOTS !!!!

A guy that was on ESPN and then was an assistant coach for 8 years with zero head coach experience was spoon fed the most prestigious job in the sport. Lets not talk about entitled

Other sites for schools that have had success are the same. This site isn’t an anomaly. And fans have legitimate reasons to be very concerned with our basketball and football programs. Granted, this thread was a gross overreaction.

I agree it's not an anomaly. The fanatical behavior and absurd over reactions is why the term is used.

Hubert was a bad hire no other way to put it. But we got him, so he deserves a legitimate shot!

The ones that should resign are the ones responsible for hiring him.

The idea of picking a guy to coach that wasn't even in coaching to be the next guy is mind boggling.

Hubert experience coaching is similar to Roy's when he became coach of Kansas. Roy was on the hot seat at Kansas for a while, but they stuck with him. Even though he never won a NCAA championship at Kansas, he had competitive teams every year.
