NFL 2019-20

The Panthers organization appreciates your support, watching them win the SB. :D

Seriously - and sadly - Panthers are looking at 6-10. Hell, if the Heels get a few breaks they could end up with more wins.
@TarHeelMark - is it you on this board who grew up as a Vikings fan? I know local media and fans always are overly optimistic for the home team, but this year might end up being a good year for the Vikings. I think they've improved their offensive line, and Cousins will have a better year. Sort of a bounce back in second year. I think they are the best overall team in NFC North this year.

Yep. That's me. I always seem to pull for football teams that get close but never quite bring home the belt. I still would like to see them do well. But I'm not completely sold on Cousins.

The north could be a 3 team race. I'm not a Bears fan but would like to see Mitch have a good year. The Packers could bounce back with the new coach, but who knows. Of course the Lions... well, they're the lions so they will suck.

His retirement statement Is one of the classiest most heartfelt things you will watch. Made the right decision...Indy fans are DISGRACEFUL a bunch of low class low rent aholes

They should be hammering the front office for not putting a decent OL around him. IIRC, he got sacked more than anyone during his first 3-4 years. That's pretty telling when you consider that Luck is a pretty mobile, strong dude
now they have a really good o-line, a legit back, and good pass catchers...iirc, they were the favorite to win the division and a dark horse sb contender...but yes, before the last two years, garbage around him and he was getting killed b/c of it.

it appears as though zeke and marshall faulk have the same agent...he/they are expressing their concern about the contract dallas offered which was just behind gurley, but ahead of bell...dallas doesn’t want to offer as much guaranteed money, and smart not to, so it looks like faulk is advising him not to sign...zeke has zero leverage and stands to lose $230k each week he sits.

personally, i love zeke...he is exactly what i want in a rb...tough af, blocks, catches, loves to play...the problem is, he is influenced too much by outside garbage...jerry acts like he isn’t budging.

Do you wonder if Jerry thinks he can work this out like he did with Emmitt back in the 90's? Seems like he made a reference to that recently.

The issue is that RB is arguably the least important position on the offense. Do you really want to pay the guy that much money? It's just another reason why I would never take a RB in the first round unless he was the second coming of Barry Sanders.

i do think he thinks it’ll get done...there are some similarities because they are that close in team structure...all the pieces are there.

but he is that important in this offense...he is this offense because dak is deficient in areas, whereas elite qb’s don’t necessarily need elite backs...the roster on offense is structured to run everything off zeke...i don’t care about paying him money because the cap is trending up and they’ll have $65 million in space next year...they need to win now and i believe they need zeke to do it.

Don't get me wrong, Zeke is obviously a talented RB, but I'd rather have a great O-line with an average RB than an average O-line with a great RB.

so, they have both, or will.

next, tell me how important your qb is...that’s where we can talk for days.
@gteeitup

FWIW - I'm pretty much in lockstep with comments you've made here, regarding Zeke, and what he is worth, compared to QBs but especially in Dallas where they don't have an elite QB in Dak.

Saw on Blogging the boys site - looks like Zeke's deal is getting done today. Sources saying possibly around $90M for 6 years ($15M per). No idea how much is guaranteed - that has been the sticking point the last few days I think. I'm guessing a lot of it is guaranteed.

If you think of what a big part of the offense runs through Zeke - rushing, pass-catching, even blocking....he is sure worth that amount. Too lazy to look it up, but in a pass-first league I think there were games when he was involved in like 40+% of the offensive touches (rushing or receiving). More than any non-QB player on any team in the league. (I sense they won't "run him into the ground" this year - with Pollard likely getting quite a few carries).

I think its a good contract for bothZeke and the Cowboys. He wasn't going to get a better deal somewhere else - heck he has (had) two years left on his current contract. He had zero "leverage". I don't know how it stacks up against Gurley or Leveon Bell - but most people say Zeke has been the best all-around back in the league when on the field, the last 3 years. Now Gurley has a sort of ? with his health. So Zeke deserves top back money.

I'm excited for the regular season. Most people have the Cowboys around 8-8 to 9-7 and missing the playoffs, or wild card at best. I'm usually more realistic than optimistic, but I believe this team can contend for the division title and even make noise in the NFC playoffs.

It's OK - I'd rather have people sell them short, than come out of the gates thinking they're a shoe-in for the Superbowl like it is for Pats each year.

@Heelicious some info trickling out about guarantees...i bet there are multiple escape clauses...they also just locked up collins at right tackle...that line is intact for four more years together, all of them...that is old school right there...agree with your points, though.

i’m usually pessimistic when it comes to dallas, but i think they are the best team in the division and top four in the nfc.

I agree with this. Just sitting here thinking about it - right now it seems the NFC is a lot more competitive - on paper and based on past results - than the AFC. One could make an argument for Rams, Saints, Bears, Vikings, Cowboys, Eagles being legit contenders - with teams like Packers, Falcons, Seahawks maybe surprising people.

I don't see a lot of significant contenders to challenge KC or New England in the AFC, especially with Luck retiring. Maybe Chargers or Pittsburgh.

My annual futile attempt at pro football prognostication ...

Pats
Steelers
Texans
Chiefs
wc: Chargers, Browns

Eagles
Bears
Saints
Rams
wc: Packers, Falcons

so no need to start this thread...

chiefs
browns
texans
pats
wc: chargers, steelers

seahawks
packers
saints
cowboys
we: rams, lions

The amount of money these guys are getting is ludicrous.

I wonder how those dudes from years ago feel about today's contracts? Hell, a lot of the players back in the 50's and 60's had to work regular jobs during the offseasons just to make ends meet. Or maybe they just needed extra cash for the hookers and blow?

if i were given that choice, yes, agree.

and now that goff has been extended, dak is looking at that number.

I think I remember saying that the Cowboys should have drafted a QB with a high pick in the last draft. There was a reason for that. This should have been a proactive decision by JJ, not a reactive one.
