NFL 2019-20

It sucks that he's a dookie but he got you the W, so that's what matters. What happened to Barkley, and is it long term?

Yeah, I've blocked that part of Jones' history out of my mind.

Barkley has a high ankle sprain. Looking like 4-6 weeks...rough timing as the Giants finally have some semblance of hope.

yep...twitter is amazing
If by amazing, you mean mostly garbage, you are right....
….but there is some good that can come from it. Maybe 5%?
A little off topic, but did you guys see where a post-college age young man (24) just held up a sign at the Iowa - Iowa State ESPN Gameday broadcast, asking for Venmo money for beer? (Busch Light? Really?)

It went viral (on Twitter I think) and he ended up raising over a million $ - including Anheiser Busch matching whatever he raised. Once the request got any traction, he decided to donate every penny raised to Iowa Children's Cancer hospital.

Well - this good deed certainly cannot stand in today's society (sarc). Some lowlife scum of the earth Des Moines Register dug up some racist tweets the guy made from 8 years ago (when 16 years old - actually quoting Tosh.0 show I guess), is trying to destroy him. (Turns out this reporter had some equally bad, more recent tweets of his own, but nevermind I guess....)

The DMR and this "reporter" are getting unloaded on today, for taking down this young man (who did show remorse and apologize). I hope the reporter loses his job.

The way persons in society try to hunt down any speck of something many years ago to try to destroy people who do good in the world, have matured, have done things that many kids in teens did and regret....we've almost all said and did dumb things in teens we regret. Should we be judged for them for the rest of our lives.

makes me grieve / fear for our society....the whole "offended" / cancel culture PC snowflakes, and total lack of spine of AB. How hard would it be to for AB to make a statement saying "the kids comments in his teens were wrong, but he has apologized, matured. Its not who he is today. We continue to support his efforts to do great for a great charitable cause."

The total lack of backbone or kahunas of the corporate woke PC crowd is just crazy embarrassing, weak, gutless, despicable.

Yeah, I heard that most recent bit of the story this morning. And it is ridiculous that a couple of tweets from 8 years ago (when he was 16) caused AB to disassociate themselves from him. But their beer sucks anyway so probably just as well.

It's a good thing that social media wasn't around when I was 16. I certainly said (and did) some stupid stuff that I don't agree with today. Thankfully no one has video evidence.

All AB products are swill. All of them.
"said and did stuff.... "

who hasn't? That is the point. If he continued to stand by it, well then "Houston-we have a problem". But he profusely apologized, and was embarrassed, and its not who he is today. He matured. Apparently, not good enough.

Somebody stated - the reporter could have just said: "hey bud, what about these tweets or FB posts?" and when the guy said he was sorry for them, the reporter could have just said, "OK, cool, you may just want to delete them, to not hinder your fund raising." Problem solved. How hard would that have been?

panther fans, would you be interested in releasing cam after this year and have $2 million in dead money, but save $19 million in cap room in 2020-21?

think about that for a minute.

I'd like a bigger sample size from Kyle Allen first. He's 2-0, and has played well but the wins came vs the Cards, and the saints last year after they had clinched the division. He may not be an all star, but he might be good enough for now. I guess we'll find out over the next 6-8 weeks while Newton is out.

Cam appears to be physically done; or at least he'll never be that dual threat that he used to be. I wouldn't expect to see him go the Andrew Luck route but if he comes back and still sucks, then Panthers have a tough decision ahead of them.

by comparison with qb’s that have been extended the last four or five years:

matt ryan: $69 million in dead money
big ben: $37 mill
alex smith: $34 mill

so, judging by those ^^^ guys, getting out of the newton deal would be tempting...meanwhile, the falcons, steelers, and skins are screwed.

Ever since May 25, 1999
The Washington guys Kornheiser and Wilbon were talking on PTI about how much a once great, fan-passionate, franchise in the Redskins is dead f last in the league right now.

It was very sad, how there is no interest even in the city of Washington, for a team that used to totally own and dominate the sports scene now. The Nationals and Caps have totally replaced Redskins.

I say that even as a Cowboys fan. You have to hate it when a rivalry loses its luster or appeal. Like even if I'd like it if Dook perennially lost, I'd miss the stories and excitement of the rivalry.

Yep. And their MNF record in that new stadium is 2-17. Pathetic.

It's been a slow and arduous experience.

It's kinda funny, with my younger brother and I. Our Dad was a huge Redskins (and Tar Heels) fan. We followed his lead. I Skype the game with him every week. But, it's just a joke, now. I've become one of the fans that Scott Van Pelt mentioned (another life-long Redskins fan) in a broadcast last year- we just don't care anymore. It's apathy that cannot be defined. I remember when season tickets were on a waiting list that would take generations to acquire. That was at RFK, of course. But, now? You probably couldn't give them away. It's dwindled to that! Home games have more opposing fans in the stands!

The sad thing is; Snyder will never sell it. And, even if he did, the name would get changed, maybe even leave the city, who knows. As long as Snyder owns it, they'll be sub-par-to-mediocre at best. Snyder hires based on nostalgia or gimmick. Doug Williams is a prime example. Bruce Allen is another. George Allen's gone and so is 1972. Doug Williams had a few good games in 1987/88. He has no business in the business of football. Gruden has been there 2 years too long. I think the Gruden's are overrated, period. That operation is a textbook example of how to ruin a football franchise. Terrible hiring and firing decisions, terrible decisions and relations with current players. Pathetic

Strum, these are great comments. I mean I feel sad for you, but you perfectly summed up the situation. My college roommate for four years (and still one of my best friends, godparent to our daughter) was / is a lifelong Redskins fan. His whole room (and now house) is adorned with very cool Redskins pictures, collectibles, etc.

Its hard to imagine a situation worse than when you have an owner like Snyder who by all accounts is doing a horrible job, has all control of everything, and isn't about to change or give up any control.

I used to think Jerry Jones and Snyder were nearly the same. I believe they are good friends. JJ was the primary source of despair for me as a fan because of what I mentioned above:
1) bad at X's and O's football strategory and on-field talent selection,
2) thought he was the brightest football genius (I swear for a while he considered being the coach, too)
3) could never acknowledge that HE was part of the problem, and that there was a problem
4) would never give up control of anything, only hiring "yes men" and "puppets"

I think he has changed some now - and while he still craves and needs to be in the limelight, and he still has a giant ego and says some stuff I wish he wouldn't say....it seems he has people in place in coaching - the coordinators, and in drafting and talent assessment that do way better than if he were calling all the shots.

I hope the Redskins can get a change, for your sake, my roommate / friend, other fans. When they had Joe Gibbs at the helm (and was it the Beathard family as owners?) - you could argue it was on a short list of best-run most successful sports franchises in all of pro sports. Gibbs is just awesome in anything he's done.

Bobby Beathard was the GM with Gibbs. The owner was Jack Kent Cooke. He died in the 90s.

Jamal Williams' hit, in slow motion, is a textbook video of the human head in a hard football hit. That guy's brain was sloshing around for sure. Sheezus! It really shows how savage this game can be.They're like human projectiles smashing into each other!

They said he lost consciousness, scary stuff.

he went totally limp, looked like he had been shot!

ETA: It sorta reminded me of when I was a kid and saw Darryl Stingley get shellacked by Jack Tatum. I think it was a preseason game.. The dude was immobile... cuz he was paralyzed from the neck-down afterward!

weird year...too many holding flags, not enough pf flags.

these scores are becoming college like, though.
Maybe it's selective judgement (assessment) because I didn't like the way the game turned out last night for the Cowboys. I don't get how they couldn't get the run game going... and maybe try running outside since between the tackles wasn't working...and not having Gallup really hurts. With Amari Cooper being the only downfield threat, they could really clamp down on him. On some plays it seems he must have been the only WR on the field (to get quadruple covered and that's where you throw the ball late?)

anyway, back to the penalties: its almost like the officiating crew got a message from the league office that you need to call X number of offensive holding penalties, AND X number of offensive PI calls each game.

Saints got called for a ton of holding penalties. Cowboys got called for two offensive PI calls that were both super sketchy, the defensive back over-acting to draw a flag (like a football version of a Dook flop).

Point is not that Cowboys lost because of the calls. They couldn't establish the run, and couldn't / didn't take enough deep pass shots. I just hate when it seems the officials come in with some dictated points of emphasis, and they look for any opportunity to throw flags to meet quotas on these emphasis points.

funny you bring that up...dallas radio guys were discussing the fact that other than the first drive of the second half, it was exactly the same playbook they used last season...as in, running right into middle of that effing line, threw more stop routes vs cover 2(that’s a dez bryant special not amari) and single digit number of throws over 20 yards...it was almost as if garrett pulled kellen moore aside and said “kid, this is an important game so i’ll setup the game plan.”

that was very frustrating to watch...also frustrating was seeing the bs zeke fumble, the silly four second play, and giving up no touchdowns yet still losing.

@gteeitup
all great points. I'd like to tag it on "Red" - boy, does he look out of it, outcouched by a wide margin...hard to deny that Peyton is the vastly better coach. No problems AT ALL with the defense last night. None.

Peyton and NO found a way to win with arguably way less talent and without his HOF QB, and a near bottom of league defense in terms of passing yards allowed per play. Good thing Cowboys steered away from trying to exploit that even once.

I heard that media were questioning Garrett about "why did you go to running so much on first down and second down, when passing more on these downs worked great so far this year?" (They could have questioned the lack of deep throws too....)

Garrett could have said: "here's why we went that way.... you have to keep trying it, to wear them down, impose your will, build up to breakout plays..." Instead he said, "I don't think we did run it more on first and second down than in the past." Freaking Donald Trump level embarrassing and unaware. Math is hard. How can you not know that statistically you ran on these downs 15-20 percentage points more than in the previous games? Who in the h is in charge of knowing what's going on, what will work, what has worked? In the past and in-game? "Hey, we haven't gone deep on first down yet this game... looks like they are blitzing, let's audible into a deep pass play..."

I'm not sure who made the call to go back to the Lenihan supertelegraphed, run up the gut, followed by flurry of 3-5 yard routes, but if it is Garrett - it is going to come back and bite him by end of this year, for sure.

nfl game pass is great...it also provides “all 22” which i’ve mentioned before...it’s the coaches film that they view and use for the players...it’s from cameras above goal posts and from above the los...the film shows the entire game in a condensed version from those multiple camera angles.

@Heelicious in watching the cut ups, the saints look like they were either keying on something from dak, the line, or a signal...explains a lot about how they knew dallas was running vs passing...might just be they knew more about tendencies than dallas thought.

the bigger problem now is the film is out...the packers defense is better and tyron smith is out...should be interesting to see if dallas can get this corrected.
