Remember the good ole days when your opponent had a talent like Flagg so you put in some nimrod to burn 5 fouls and hammer the fuk outta him?

dook was the biggest practitioner. If we were playing them and it looked like we might stat running away with it, or at least had someone go on a streak, here comes the big white scrub into the game, and you knew just what he was in there for.

Lol no dude you had to wear him down. Put him on the floor a couple times. Dean wouldn’t go for such but my high school coach did. We played north buncombe and they had this player Jimmy Denton who was all everything but was soft. We put a big football player guy on him who loved to get dirty and coach told him every time he drove to hammer him. He fouled out but the damage was done. Jimmy shot jumpers rest of the game and we won. Uva back in the 70’s had a player they put in to do that. I think his name was Hatcher.

Was it Hatcher? I've been trying for a hot minute to think of the guy's name they used to joke about and he was definitely from UVA. I want to say Terry something, but that could just be the coach's name slipping into this old brain. The running joke was that the refs would call a foul on him as he was getting off the bus. Anyone remember?

flagg is a problem, like barnes was a problem.

Saw this and thought it applied. The play is real, but the hype is still an annoyance for anyone but a dookie.

nah, I know it was Terry Holland which is why I'm thinking I was mixing up the names and that the player had the name Terry. I might just be confusing them. What was Hatcher's first name and was he the same guy I was thinking of?

I was talking about a guy named Terry Gates. Not much out there as he wasn't a star (particularly on a team with guys like Sampson and Jeff Lamp), but did find this UPI article. Enjoy.
