OOTB Carolina football discussion thread

I know Mack has always known how to win a press conference. But unless he is just making up stories about these guys, then it doesn’t sound like they’re having a hard time staying focused.

That said…

Don’t listen to Vegas, Hoos should be a heavy favorite. I’m expecting something like 54-3 UVA

I was there too. The saving grace that year was beating the piss out of the Hokies in the bowl game. Our defense is vastly improved, but I want to see us return to a '97 D. Talk about brutal...
The two teams qb’s came out to warm up and I had never seen state and Wilson play that year. Well Wilson put on a show throwing deep balls with tight spirals that nose dived like bombs into the receivers hands. Made our guy look like a chump. I remember turning to my friend and saying “holy shit that’s an nfl arm on that guy, we could be in trouble” and he proceeded to pick us apart.

I'm not familiar with this Wilson guy you keep talking about. Is he related to that Wisconsin QB?

My brother and I were talking about that a few weeks back when they played Washington. RW always says "University of Wisconsin" in the game promos.

Wasn't that the game where like the final play was some total fluke shit, where it bounced off some UNC player into a Moo player's hands in the EZ, or some such weird, hand-of-fate thing.

I'm confused and I'm holding you responsible. I was referring to the FSU game. I can't remember if I was at the game you're talking about, but I don't think it was in '97 unless I have totally lost what was left of my mind.

this was a crusher. This is why I got furious at whathisname for not fielding that State onside kick whenever that was. Letting State win after having them as good as beaten is criminal, and that crime has been committed way too much.

It's worked so far, appreciate you sticking to the plan.

All this talk about 6-0 for the first time in history keeps reminding me of our last 6 win streak = just last yr! We ended that awesome streak with bed-shitting to GT which triggered more bed-shitting for the final 3 games.

23.5 point spread???
That is going to be a hard fall if that tall tree gets cut down.

Though i kinda feel better about losing when we're solid but farted-away a one specific game, rather than when we're losing because we suck entirely the whole season or suck entirely on one side of the ball the entire season, etc.

Sorry I thought you were referring to state/unc

Remember the coaches finding Chad Scott then Barth hitting the game-winner vs Mia? That was a fun one to attend regardless of your feelings on Bunting.

that one was a riot and very special to me. That's whiy I pointed out elsewhere that a night game against a ranked opponent or a traditional rival brings out the beast in our fans and can make a difference in the outcome.

I have to bore you with this.

I predicted a win against Miami before the season even started, and I wasn't throwing stuff against the wall, I really believed it for some solid reasons. I was on TOS at the time and I made sure I repeated my prediction over and over, that's how confident I was.

It was top five fun games for me to have attended, one of three where my dumb old exuberant alcohol-fueled ass charged the field after the game. Good times. GDTBATH, it was.

Find the replay on youtube; it's worth the watch. and the announcers were great..

here it is

short version

go to 5 minute mark to see the brutal hit on the Miami QB.

Oh yeah. UVA is gonna knock Drake so far down the draft board he’ll have to come back next year.
lol, wouldn't that be a shame.

I hope we beat the hoos like a rented mule, like a red-headed stepchild, and of course like a drum. Actually, let's beat them like two drums and give the redheaded kid a break.

My first game I attended as a student was against usuck. Amos Lawrence first touch was on a pitch sweep. He jukes two guys who had him stoned cold dead in the backfield so bad a La Barry sanders I bet neither will talk about it today. Both were left flailing at air and didn’t lay a finger on him. Amos ran for a td. He was one of those rare electric talents that looked as if he were on the verge of breaking a big run every time he touched the ball. Him and kelvin bryant in the same backfield was absolutely sick. If they had only had a qb!!! They went on to beat mich in the gator bowl that I attended. I still have a mich license plate I tore off a Cadillac as a souvenir.

mack didn’t leave because of the fsu game…carolina had beamer the next week, he was going to be the head coach, but “something” got in the way…then richt, but “figuratively” something else” got in the way(see what i did there @heelmanwilm).

carolina will never shake its identity, but it can establish a foundation…it’s okay to be a power in two sports that fund the athletic dept…there are a handful of schools that can do this and it’s there for the taking…i think it’s pretty easy; pay assistants, get lucrative deals through nil with this university because it is uncommon, and get more guys to the nfl.

Famous Amos! My first game was October 15, 1977... in Raleigh. AL had 216 Yards rushing as UNC won 27-14. I mostly remember the crowd noise and hearing the marching band drums as we got near the stadium. I think I was maybe 9 years old. My Dad and I... good times!

I really thought Amos would be great in the nfl. He was a generational talent. Unfortunately he had three fumbles in 13 carries his first year including the Super Bowl kick off. He was avg nearly 4 yds a carry! Next year he made it 7 carries before having another fumble then got cut. I don’t remember him having a fumble prob at unc. But damn he had one in the nfl And that’s the kiss of death for a rb.

93 FSU gm was my first in Kenan. The student section was overflowing, the whole stadium was overflowing. I actually don't remember much aside for Charlie Ward being amazing and their fans cruising franklin doing that damn chop before and after.

he was a highly gifted runner but he wasn't built for NFL contact.

It was fools gold to think we’d go undefeated. I knew that. We all knew that. But why why WHY uva ffs???!! When I first started following unc football back in the 60’s we couldn’t beat them. When unc got good in the 70’s and 80’s we couldn’t beat them. Our greatest season and arguably best team ever we couldn’t beat them, even with a two td lead and first and goal in the 4th qtr. Goddamitt. This is why I drink.

Back to feeling like we could easily win or easily lose the rest of our games. This is how fall is supposed to feel for tar heels though. Aaaah back to normalcy.

it's almost like a weather report. "The fall collapse has arrived a little early this year..."

My best guess is we believed the press clippings and felt we had the swagger and talent to just show up and roll the ball out there and have at it. But we’re nowhere close to having that talent. Maybe it will be a wake up call that carries a few games. 10-2 and top 15 is still a damn good season for unc football. So long as that 2 doesn’t include dook or state.
