OOTB Carolina football discussion thread

I will be attending a wedding tomorrow so I won’t be able to watch. Not sweating it too bad. I’ll be in CH when Miami comes to town though

Not at all. This team doesn't deserve your time.

The GF wants to go apple picking tomorrow . She said "I looked up the schedule and UNC plays at 3:30 on Saturday, so what time would you want to go, like noon or something?"

My response.... "Let's go at 3:30 then"
Apple picking? Make sure you remember not to mess up your skirt while you're out there.

I’m going to the mountains w the fam so I wont be able to watch either. If I were able I’d watch tho. Idc if it’s a 50-0 blowout I’d still watch. Love my heels. Y’all are bad fans. Very very bad.

They're not bad fans, just bad people. For the record I'll be watching, but I'm not sure if I'll pay much attention once we are behind by 30. Basically that means I'm only going to watch the first quarter.

As bad a team as I've seen in many years. We're not even mediocre. I think I'm done until we get another coach.

2 years ago he had us in the ACC Championship game. I’m no football head but I’m fairly certain we have 100 players injured this year. Knock it off will ya. It’s a tough year but better things to come.

You keep defending him and his ineptitude. In a couple of more years, even you hard core Fed fans will see the light. And it will have cost us two more years. But you keep your head buried in the sand.

I’m sure after Roy’s 2010 NIT season you were on Radar crying for him to be fired right? Yawn. No heads being buried in the sand Arch. It’s called reality. By all means though please stop watching. That’s exactly what this program needs right now.

@Archer2 who do propose we hire as HC? Some of y'all think Saban is sitting around waiting on an offer from Carolina. Fed is about as good of a coach as we can reasonably expect to have. We may hit the lottery with an up and comer but the chances of that are slim. I'm on record saying I don't really like the style we play. But I do like Fedora. This may be a defeatist attitude, but we are not a championship caliber football program. We're just not. We're a middle of the road program that will show up in the ACC championship game every blue moon and we'll have 3 win seasons every blue moon. It's who we are. I'm fine with it.

I've been on record saying we shouldn't fire him, but I'm starting to question that after today. We looked like a DII team today and I just don't see much to get me excited about the future. Carter is going to be really good and our second best player is our punter. I'm stupid enough to keep watching though.

The coaching is obviously very bad. The mistakes, the penalties, the lack of discipline, the indecisiveness on who to play as the QB, poor clock management (always), suspect play-calling.

And, yes, UNC had a great season in 2015. I'm more and more convinced that the 2015 was due to the particular chemistry of that particular offense and the fortitude of #12. The defense that season was suspect, as always. The bowl game showed how bad the defense was.

Last season was actually a lot worse than the final record shows.

Fedora is mediocre on his best day. We'll be mediocre with him.

Bad post. Really bad post. Fedora is a great HC and we are lucky he stuck with us.

Great post. Really great post. Fedora has worked against recruiting restrictions, the NCAA cloud, and lousy school/fan support. He’s battling historic injury problems after losing 92% of our offensive production.

This is just a pretty terrible poast from beginning to end.

Indecisiveness at QB? He has his mind made up after the first game. Chazz has been hurt and struggled quite a bit lately.

You mention 2015 and yes, Quise was a rock. But that team was insanely healthy. We had a soft schedule as well with lots of play makers.

If you think Fedora is mediocre, you don’t watch college football.

You are ridiculously biased. Many of the problems strum mentioned have been recurring issues since Fed took over. If you haven't noticed the play calling and clock management issues then you don't watch Carolina football.

I'd argue fedora has overproduced given the recruits he's brought in. Roy wasn't the only coach who suffered in recruiting from the NCAA cloud.

The difference, though, was that Roy had a rich history, two titles, and no recruiting restrictions. His recruiting and results suffered until just recently. Especially recruiting.

Fedora walked into the loss of 15 schollies and the cloud of the NCAA. If Roy struggled, how do you think it affected Larry. Yet, Larry had us knocking on the door two years ago. He didn't forget how to coach overnight.

And FTR, clock management has never been an issue here relative to other schools. And questioning playcalling from a coach who has smashed UNC offensive records shines a light on your football ignorance.

I watch college football every weekend.

Fedora peaked in 2015. That was his high tide. And, as you helped to point-out, much of that was due to a soft schedule and exceptional players. And, he still lost the big game and bowl game. It won't get any better. I'll gladly stand by that prediction.

Actually you are the one with football ignorance if you truly believe everything you posted. Even the most hardcore Larry supporters have admitted that his play calling is subpar at best. So have actual experts who get paid to analyze that sort of thing. There is nothing that shows he has what it takes to be a great coach. He's a mediocre coach at a historically mediocre program. @gunslingerdick did a good job of summing it up.

We agree that 2015 might be a high tide for Fedora at UNC. I'm not sure any coach will ever do better here. Butch had twice the talent in 2011 and we win 8 games. As @gunslingerdick mentioned, I just don't see any coach coming here and winning it all.

Fedora is the best we can hope for. I also believe Fedora would compete for titles at a place like Texas A&M.

Lastly, that Baylor team was arguably the best team in the country. Their oline was a sight to behold.

How does a mediocre coach and bad play caller set offensive records at UNC despite all the hurdles? He's off to the 2nd best start ever. Who are the highly paid pundits who question him and what are their qualifications?

And if you think he's a great HC, then I question your sanity.
He's easily a top 20 and probably a top 15 coach in the country.

You can speculate that "if fedora was coaching at Texas, he'd be in the CFP" all day. I sure as hell don't think so. If he reached his high tide by his 2015 team here, then I doubt he can have Texas A&M beating Oklahoma, Texas, and TCU every year! He hasn't beaten a Div I team since Ga Tech last year. He hasn't won a bowl game in... how many years? If he's a great recruiter, then the cuffs are off and he should be rounding-up the cream of the crop now.

Tomyour first point, you are right. We can neither prove or disprove how he'd do. Just speculation. I offered my opinion.

To the latter point, the handcuffs just came off. The NCAA just cleared us two weeks ago. Also, a point many seem to forget, the loss of football schollies doesn't hurt you right away. It takes time. You feel it down the road. Contributors in football are usually upperclassmen. So the first couple years, it's not a big deal. But down the road when injuries and attrition set in, the program feels it. We are feeling it now. No depth. We are down to 52 scholarship players after all the injuries suffered.

In the end, time will tell on Fedora. I believe in him. Many of you don't.

Ya'll happy you did that to yourselves?

Lol. Fed couldn't hold Butch's jock strap. And if you think Baylor was even close to the creme de la creme that year I don't know what to tell you. Fed may very well be the best we can get, but if you think he's anything even approaching "good" I want some of whatever the **** you're smoking.

Like @uncboy10 said, most of that is due to the type of offense he runs. He may be off to the second best start (which isn't exactly a high bar), but we aren't any better as a program now than when he got here. Apparently you don't listen to the games, because multiple announcers and people in the studio actually say it during the broadcast. That's how bad it is. I could find an ass load of articles by experts but you would ignore them, so there is no point.

This is easily one of the top 20 and probably top 15 dumbest posts on this site. It's like nukem political level dumb.

He's clearly drunk and/or high. His posts don't even make sense.

Fedora is ok. He is a solid coach. The injuries aren't an excuse but they are a factor when evaluating things. Like others have said, change for change sake isn't the right move if you don't have someone better lined up.

So what would you have us do? Give him six more years, because the handcuffs just came off, to build our depth a get back to full strength? Knowing the PTB at UNC, that may just happen. But by the end of that scenario, there may not be 10,000 butts in the seats on game day.

I believe all the things you mentioned are factors in our current mess. But I, like very many others, feel Fed is also a significant part of the problem. If you truly believe that he is one of the top 15-20 best HC's in the country, I've got some oceanfront property in Arizona I want to sell you.

Now I'm through with this discussion because it is a moot point. As you said, only time will tell how good Fed actually is. I'll be pulling for them as I have for five and a half decades but my expectations will be very low.
