OOTB Carolina football discussion thread

remind me, the s&c staff was just replaced after “smart, fast, physical” left, right?…they were soft af then.

where is jeff connors when we need him?
Unless S&C is responsible for heart and attitude I'm not ready to blame S&C.
Also not ready to blame scheme though.

So what is causing both execution and hustle to be lacking, especially in the trenches?

At 5:53 is the first 2 point try. It appears some of the players are in man and others in zone. 17 goes in motion, Storm Duck puts in half effort to go with him. Two guys on the left run into each other. I guess Cam Kelly is in zone because he does nothing.

that was my thought re: s&c…usually that shows up in the 4th qtr if it’s lacking…this garbage has been happening for years.

lack of execution and hustle, imo, is “want to”…i don’t know how you measure that in recruiting…football iq should also be discussed.

I was watching some recap show after the game and the guy announcing said they were giving our segment a little extra play, and of course he keyed on the forty points right away. But worse, when we stopped Brice on the last two point play he said it was the only play our defense made all day.

ouch

Conditioning shows up in the fourth. Strength should show up on the first play. I went to several games last year and spent time specifically watching the line. Even against teams we should dominate, we couldn't get much, if any, push. I find it hard to believe that almost every player we have on the lines has bad football IQ and lacks effort. If it were just one position group, maybe. This isn't just one group though. The only staff both groups interact with is S&C.

understand all that…my point is it’s the same part of the staff, it’s all under s&c.

the s&c staff under butch was elite iirc…connors, right?…i don’t recall getting pushed around and they definitely had it going late in games.

Right, so the question is are they even being looked at as a potential issue? Not necessarily meaning them being replaced. Maybe something as simple as changing how they train. I asked AJ on blitz about it. Not sure if there's anything he can share.

" #UNC DC Gene Chizik says there was an "implosion" on defense in the 4th quarter. "

can't get much past Gene I guess.

That reminds me of years ago when I was helping a high school team. After practice the day before the game the head coach had the team gathered for one last talk before ending things that day.

Coach said "well boys, I'm going to tell you.. Northern is going to get on that bus tomorrow night and come over here and try to beat ya"

I'm thinking.. well he has that figured out.

that's why not everybody can coach.

the guy at scarolina about ten years ago had the players in sand flipping tires and i laughed at the time.

piggy backing off this…look at the transformation of will shipley @ clemson from last year to this year…carolina was also in on him.

The win against App State is looking better by the minute, and ND suddenly seems a lot more beatable.

We've now seen the offense light it up, and the defense put together a halfway decent showing. They really need to find a way to put them together at the same time and eliminate the stupid penalties and mistakes.

A&M has only 8 firsts downs and on of the 2 A&M TDs was a kickoff return. Our offense maybe be really good!

We need that!!!

Depending on how the voters look at it, we might just squeeze into the top 25 for the ND game.

I know, I know, it doesn't matter what youre ranked in week 4-5 if the team sucks. But every week you have one of those little numbers next to your name helps with perception, which in turn helps with recruiting.

I don't follow our football team nearly as close as basketball but App St just beat A&M and Drake Maye is an absolute stud. Team is 3-0.

I'd be glass half full. Big test coming up.

Pretty simple to follow. App State beat A&M, we beat App State. That means we beat a top 10 team and should be ranked at least #10 in the polls. I think that's the way it works.
