OOTB's Political Thread . ..

Regardless of how you voted, thanks. That's what matters. You cared enough to do so. Let's also all be thankful you weren't suppressed by that silly, terribly burdensome requirement.
Mayoral elections in small towns are funny...this is my first one since 2004 where I've lived in a small town and the issues are hysterical. They were arguing over like $600 being used to fix a leak in the municipal building as the main topic of conversation.

My district's congressional spot is actually super close, the ads have been nauseating, glad that's done with.

Outrageous! Suppression!
Yeah, the thought that people are against showing ID to vote is absolutely mind-boggling. I have to show ID if I want to put up a 5 foot fence in my yard, why should I not to vote?

Also, Dems are idiots because the optics are so freaking bad on this. Whether it happened or not (no desire to debate that) there's a pretty decent sized % of the country that thinks the 2020 election had fraud, so why not just appease that % by making this simple request a thing so they can't slam you for it?

I can't disagree with that, but all sides and candidates should be interested in making the "process" as fair and efficient as possible. The problem is that you can't have it both ways. There should be one person, one vote. So, things like asking for an ID to show you are who you claim you are prior to voting, our absolute most important civic duty, should not be that hard. If it's a matter of cost, there are solutions to that. But don't act like candidates and leaders haven't paraded around claiming asking for an ID is the most blatant voter suppressive act one could do. You can't have it both ways. If you are gonna ask "candidates and leaders not to add further fire to that rhetoric", you can't limit the topic. Rhetoric is either okay or it's not. That's why it's called rhetoric.

Well the voter ID debate to me is a good jump off point here. I'm actually not opposed to voter IDs in principle. I simply don't trust the (mostly) red states implementing them as a way to introduce an undue burden on poorer populations who may not have ID, may not have time to get one, or may not understand the process of getting one. It's a way to place limits on people.

I would accept a law that required people to show ID but also gave out free voter ID cards to everyone who's registered. They do that in Europe all the time.

Depends on the details of the ID law.

And I have to disagree a bit on that last point. The reason such a portion of this country believes there was fraud is because the unsavory of elements of the GOP keep feeding that narrative. There is more than enough proof that it wasn't stolen. That's on them.

Please explain how any person can possibly function in today's world without an ID. On welfare, food stamps, how do you cash your check without ID. Bank account=ID. Cigarettes, alcohol=ID.

Dude, at some point you've gotta meet in the middle.

Getting an ID is not a difficult process and if you implement it today then you have 2 years to get one. Free voter cards are fine - but you've gotta be able to show 1. you're a citizen and 2. that you live in the place you're trying to vote to get one.

But voting without showing your ID is something I can't imagine any rational person is against...but we left rationality a long time ago so that's not surprising.

I am meeting in the middle. As I said, I'm not opposed to a national ID law of some kind. But there are a lot of people in this country (everywhere in every state) who do not have the means to get ID. If the aim is for securing the democratic process, it should also be to increase and simplify the democratic process.

I literally don't understand why we can't do it the way European nations do.

European nations have 1/50th our population on average. They should never be the comparison, for good or bad.

It's $24 to get an ID in NJ. Using that as an excuse is just absurdity.

And many people don’t have the extra money.

European nations are first world democracies like us. It’s obviously not a perfect comparison for a variety of factors- culture, size, etc- but it’s not a reason to dismiss something out of hand. Something like that could work here if we did it our way. Create a national ID card and let the states handle distributing them.

Everything you’re saying right now is why a lot of people don’t trust ID laws. If they are meant to be burdens instead safeguards, they can become watered down versions of poll taxes.

I don't think Trump supporters understand themselves. They create a reality to fit their world view every time, all the time.

But, you make a good point about Trump supporters booing him when he mentions vaccines. They've grown beyond his control. He exploited the agenda better than anyone ever could. Fortunately, he knows how to pander to them better than anyone else. And, he is the MAGA brand leader. DeSantis doesn't stand a chance against him, if Trump doesn't want him to be his successor. It will be interesting to see if a struggle between right-wing media (and its backers) and Trump himself, for their allegiance, occurs.
They were never under his control. That's just ridiculous. The fact you swallow such propaganda is sad.

Said it when he was still a candidate. People were not "following" Trump as much as Trump followed the people. He joined a movement and helped expand it.

Uh huh, so why are you not opposed to IDs for banking, travel, etc, etc,....Certainly if it is a burden, it's a much bigger impact in those areas than whether one can vote.

Oh, I know. It's because it's sheer bull-crap to claim "undue burden," and the reality is the democrats just want to and always engage in cheating. Same for the past 150 years.

"Lot of people"? Like who? In fact, if you can't pay for the ID, you can get one for free.

Who are these people you claim cannot obtain photo ID, or even that don't have one?

100% proof it was stolen. I can rattle off dozens of proofs and examples, and all you guys ever do is ignore them and claim essentially that since they got away with it, it didn't happen.

How about the fact the machines were connected to the internet in key contested areas when they were not supposed to be, and we were assured they could not connect to the internet.

Kicking out poll observers.

Stuffing ballots.

Phantom voters, meaning tons of ballots where the person does not even exist. Dead voters. Hundreds of ballots sent to one house, etc, etc,...

Vertical vote count.

Observable mass vote switching. Saw that on TV at the time.

Just the starters...

Asking someone to follow a procedure and setting it aside when they don't is not voter suppression. When's the last time you went into a store and bought something at a sale price that ended a week before? Following the rules on things, particularly something as important as one's vote, isn't optional. This line of thinking is a big part of our problem in our society. I'm busy today, do you think they'll let me show up next Tuesday to cast my vote?
That date had no purpose. So there wasn't a procedure.

Following Charlie Kirk on social media feels like a nightmare.
Fake tweet? You think the MSM will report on it? How about how they covered the Zeldin supporter who was choked by a Hochul supporter? I mean it was a man choking a woman. I think it was a woman anyway, maybe she should have pulled out her dick to make sure.

The bottom line is that there really is no reason that votes can't be counted promptly and counted without significant interruption.
The vote counting rules in places with biggest complaints were instituted by repubs.
Her point was that if 4 mil votes are cast and 3.5 of them are counted by midnight (4 hour period assuming counting started at close of polls at 8), it does look suspicious when it takes hours and hours to count the remaining 0.5.
It only looks suspicious if you don't understand the "why". But since 2020 (and prior) there've been countless explanations of the "why". MAGA is ignorant or blatantly choosing to ignore the explanations.

And? What if republicans in Arizona win anyway? It doesn’t mean anything either way except that they need to repair the machines. Good Lord, you’re paranoid.
And you are just ignorant. They may win depending on how large the real margin is but this is obvious and typical voter and election fraud.

And guess who is in charge of vetting and deciding on this election? Why it just happens to be the democrat nominee for governor.

How Hobbs can maintain her role in the election process while running in this election is beyond compare. I guess there's no such thing as a conflict of interest.

You might be tangent'ing a bit. The problem is that we have a defined process which involves slow counting of votes. Take PA for example, repubs put in these procedures that result in slow counting. And MAGA is calling "foul" over the slowness. That's a prob unrelated to things like voter-id.

Politicians and people like Cristina Bobb are fomenting suspicion over something they partly created even though there is no reason for suspicion. They're fighting the election results before they're announced.

Except what happens in the chain of custody. Pretty easy to lose and to find ballots, even tomorrow, the next day and however long it takes.
Pretty easy? Wanna explain? Chain and custody is lock & key with secure procedures, audited pre and post.

ETA - WTF am i responding to you?
