OOTB's Political Thread . ..

As far as "Liberal" goes; Keep in mind that the Founding Fathers were extremely liberal... at the time. By liberal, I mean,it was a fairly brazen idea. A self-governing nation separate from the British Crown was hardly "conservative."

They were classic liberals, which are basically libertarians. Common day liberals aren't even close to the same thing.

@gteeitup is definitely NOT on the right. Add him to the former group along with @Heels Noir. But you did forget about @gunslingerdick. Add him to the latter group.

i’m a straddler...here’s the thing, i learned right around the time clinton was in office(20 years old in 92)that i didn’t want to be labeled with any party, and i voted for him both times.

i’d probably love to be libertarian

So that cohen testimony was an absolute dumpster fire cluster fuk. I mean wtf were the dems thinking? They guy has already committed perjury. Been CONVICTED of lying to congress. So how the hell does he have any credibility? He might very well be telling the truth now and prob is but his testimony is worthless. I cant believe anything he says.

Dick Blumenthal is definitely a liar and draft dodger...but didn't Trump do the same exact thing?

Not so sure this is the tree he should bark up.

lol, why the fuk would trump even go there?

for me, that’s the bigger issue and it lends to exactly what everyone believes, it is and always has been about him...not the country and not the welfare of everyone.

Go to Vietnam? To talk peace with the leaders of other countries? I may be misconstruing this.

I don't think as many people as you think support his ideas. Sure NY, Ca and the like do but not middle America. He'd be hard pressed to win any of the states Trump won especially the way the economy is going right now.

Woah woah. Plenty of us up here think he's bat shit.

he’s in vietnam to meet one of few people on earth similar to himself, we know that.

go there as in his tweet.

Okay, if you're taking issues with his Tweet, I get that. I think it's great that he's over in Vietnam talking with other leaders. When you stop talking, that's when the bombs start dropping.

I actually like the idea that he is attempting to talk with Kim Jong Un. I don't know if there are ulterior motives, or to what extent. But, I'd be impressed if he would talk with any and all leaders. I'd rather they talk than have a potential confrontation.

Glad someone is using his noggin

For those of you who didn't want Trump to meet with Kim, how would you handle NK?

Not give Kim legitimacy.

All of the people from the regime who have defected have said that's what he craves and that's what keeps him in power. He sells this to his starving population and they eat it up (all the puns).

Want him to no longer be in power? Want them to cut back on building nukes? Don't give him the time of day and the people will eventually rise up since in modern times it's becoming easier for their younger generations to access the internet and realize he's made them the shittiest place on earth.

How about the Chinese in the early 70s? Was it a bad move then to legitimize them?

Very very different circumstances. Mao had Parkinson's and Lou Gehrig's by the late 60s and China's leadership actually wanted western influence and trade. The Gang of Four were vital in that, not Mao.

What does KJU want? He wants to live happily in his puppet state where his people starve and have zero civil liberties. Every defector has said making KJU seem legit on the world stage is the easiest way to keep him in power. Our intelligence agrees.

But yeah - Donald Trump, the master of international diplomacy, knows more than them...please.

Any N Korea deal or compromise falling through makes total sense given Kim's likely mental, giant ego, self-serving persona.

Kim could either:
1) be personally in the headlines around the world, regarding how he (Kim) brought the leader of the free world close to N Korea - where Kim was able to "call the shots" of the meeting, acting if Kim / N Korea had some sort of bargaining leverage over USA. (The lives of the people of N Korea and the damage of sanctions to the citizens of NK don't enter into Kim's mind at all. He has no regard or use for this people except for them to fear him and his regime)

2) negotiate some sort of deal with Trump, which would result in easing of sanctions, which would be so much better for the NK citizens. But reducing nuclear weapon progress and proliferation would also mean that Kim wouldn't be seen as a personal, single leader threat / power on the world stage. Kim would be much more popular with his NK citizens, but he would personally become a non-factor on the world stage. He'd "just" be a leader of a peaceful, non-powerful minor country.

Not hard to see that Kim took option 1 above to feed his personal ego and quest for power, influence, relevance.
