OOTB's Political Thread . ..

So it's a bit of a debate on whether he would be eligible to run again. The Constitution doesn't implicitly state he can't, but Hamilton's discussion on impeachment suggests that he should not be able to run again.

Something about taking the Oath of office when you've already been convicted of breaking that oath seems dirty to me.
No doubt it would be dirty, but I'm not sure it would be unconstitutional. I haven't really read up that much on it though, so who knows what would happen. It would be comical to watch though, because you know he would take that all the way to the supreme court if someone tried to stop him.

I'm just going on what life has taught me. You'll get there one day when you have had some life experience. I'm rooting for you!

I have a 23 year old that I hired a little over a year ago. She's the best employee I've ever had so far. But she's the Luke Maye of millennials. All you other Grayson Allens are the rule.

Those asshole Kurds were also no where to be found when the British burned Washington during the War of 1812.

This whole press conference was a disaster.

From what i’ve read, the senate would have to convene a special vote separate from the impeachment proceedings to ban trump from running. I guess it depends on how much public sentiment sways against him for the gop senators to go along.

Interesting. I would think Trump could and would challenge that in court based on constitutional grounds by saying you can't ban someone from running if they meet the constitutional requirements. One more thing that would make this thing a comedy worth watching.

Fox news poll is the fourth in two days to show a majority favoring impeachment
What are the independents saying in those pills? I usually ignore the dems and republicans in polls because they are always so skewed. Last time I looked it was about even for impeachment, but the majority didn't think he should be removed.

Trump would have even more power if he ends up getting impeached and then banned from running. He would take to twitter and motivate his populace so well, a real revolution would be a possibility. He would hammer home that "corrupt congress" is trying to silence Americans. Trump's die hard followers are gun-toting, nothing-to-lose types. I'd be careful what you wish for.

This sounds just a wee bit alarmist.

Taking up arms in defiance of the constitutional process is not revolution. Its treason. So bring it and lets get some of these ****tards weeded out.

In this poll 38% favor imp and removal. 5% favor imp but no removal. 45% against imp. 12% undecided

That's a decent amount higher than it was a month or two ago. If the independents turn on him by a big margin, he'll have to start worrying about removal. As long as the independents don't overwhelming want him out, the senate won't turn on him.

What I find hilarious about all of this is that Trump keeps catching heat for using other countries to find dirt on dems (Hillary, Biden, etc). But no one is pissed about the actual dirt that Trump finds on the dems. People are only pissed at Trump for looking for it. You can't make this shit up.

So to me, as a moderate, I'm pissed that our President is using other countries to try to get dirt on someone ONLY because they are a political rival. I'd be against this no matter who is the President.

Trump on his high horse saying "it's my responsibility to look into crime" is complete and utter bullshit. He's doing it because it's someone running against him. You think Trump would look into any of his supporters doing dirty shit? Hell MF no.

My issue is our country is divided and he isn't doing anything to bring Americans together. Before you go...well neither are dems, I agree. But I hold our President and that office to a higher standard. When you're elected, you are the representative of all Americans, not just the ones who agree with you. The only other Presidents to celebrate this divide are literally at the bottom of the Presidential rankings list (AJ, Jimmy B, Fillmore, etc).

He is a disgrace to the office as those other Presidents also were.

I don't necessarily disagree with you. But the toothpaste is out of the tube. There's no getting it back in. Trump has done as much or more of that damage than any former President but at this point, it is what it is. And I've not hidden from the fact that I voted for Trump because I believe the end justifies the means. And I'll do it again.

But what I'm talking about is the absolute outrage from people because Trump "illegally" found dirt on his rivals. We're not talking about the actual dirt he found. We're talking about the way in which he found it. That seems...backwards.

Yeah, I think we're debating things we pretty much agree on, just disagree if it's justified.

To me, I almost see this as convicting a mob boss for tax evasion. Like, yeah, we know you did some much worse shit but we can't necessarily get you for that because of our legal process so we're going to get you for the stuff we can.

Thats called “using the office for personal gain”. That doesnt bother you?

I don't give a shit what you decide to call it. But I'd be careful what you wish for as the people that are motivated by Trump are largely veterans, rednecks and other govt hating folks that know how to handle a gun and are prepared to die for what they think is right. I'm not advocating for civil war and as dadika acknowledges, I may be going slightly over the top. But Trump's supporters are the exact kind of people that you and other Trump haters would not want to tangle with.

I'm just saying, we've never seen a President with such a rabid following.

Oh i’m sure you dgaf what i call it but i’ll just defer to what the constitution would call it. Treason. And as such any armed response from the rabid yahoo fuknuts would not be met not by me or “trump haters” but by the force of the us military. Good luck with that for the bunch of middle aged fat white men playing army with their semi auto chinese ar-15 knock offs in paint ball gear waving the conf flag and singing gospel hymns. And btw I’ve yet to meet a trump supporter i’d have a second’s hesitation “tangling with” anyway.

Man, you called them everything but a tourist. I guess even Trump supporters aren't that bad.

I think they could be placated and content to just go back to hating Obama. Or, if you stick Warren in office, they could be distracted to hate a woman for at least 4 years.

If the dems nominate Warren, which appears likely, Trump will win again and he might even win the popular vote. Warren is too far to the left for most of America.

Probably... and, I don't think she's really aggressive enough, as a person, to actually go head-to-head with Trump. This is still, for the most part, just entertainment. Trump, unwittingly, has really help to show that American politics is just a traveling medicine show in the modern-day.

I'm not interested in getting in some kind of tough guy pissing contest (I always win those anyway). And the point is not that some militia would have a chance at a coup. I'm just talking about civil unrest on a level we've never seen before. It would be terrifying. But tough guys probably would be ok.

Well u started it. Lol.

If they’ve done something illegal, lock them up along him.

This redneck revolution better hope we pass some kind of healthcare reform first or they won’t be able to afford their insulin.

First of all, it's only October. 2019. To say any one of the Democratic candidates is the likely nominee is premature.

Second, Donald Trump, if he had any chance at all of being reelected, just lost the 2020 election yesterday as Turkish forces were attacking the Kurds in northern Syria. Of all the stupid things Trump has done since taking office, pulling our troops in Syria and allowing what will become a bloodbath (not to mention in effect setting 12,000 or more ISIS murderers on the loose) is by far his most heartless and idiotic move yet.

I said appears likely. That means as of today it looks like she will win. She will get most of Bernie's support when he drops out.

What is happening in Syria is horrible. Most Americans don't give a shit about the Kurds though, so to say he lost anything due to that is just wrong.
