OOTB's Political Thread . ..

Were they even invited? Seems like it would be hard to skip something if you didn't have an invitation.

I hate that argument.

Trump isn't inviting them because he knows they'd tell him to GFY and he's getting out in front of that. It isn't like he feels they are "less" of a championship team and therefore not worthy of a White House invite.

That wasn't the argument I was going to make. If they weren't invited, then the headline is misleading. That fits in with our bias in the media discussion.

If Trump were smart about it, he would still invite every team and let them look like pricks for turning it down. Or even play puppet master and create dissent amongst the team if half go and half don't. Instead, he twists it into him "losing" if he has an invite turned down.

Good point. I missed the article date.

You and @dadika13 are both correct. Trump didn’t invite them because he’s a bitch but the article headline is misleading.

I don't really get the logic behind turning down an invite. If you have a disagreement with him, that's the perfect chance to have a conversation with him about it. You probably aren't going to change his mind, but at least you have the opportunity to do so. Making him look bad in the media isn't going to improve anything.

Please tell me you know that isn’t actually socialism...

Kinda hard to tax people when there is no private ownership of capital.

Sigh. Yes, I do realize that the policy I mentioned of the 70% tax isn't socialism. I also realize that she has identified as socialist. I even split the poast into two paragraphs to help you see that they were separate trains of thought.

And I can look up the definition of socialism just as well as you can (in fact, I'd argue I can do it better).

*Democratic socialist. It’s a completely different ideology. Maybe you should google that too.

I agree. But think about that for a minute. People supported something philosophically until Trump supported it. Then they don't support it because a guy they don't like is pushing it. That's just....lame.

Trump supporters often remark that Trump could cure cancer and people would hate him for it. What you're saying seems to back that up. While Trump is a buffoon in a lot of ways, the saddest part of American politics is what you just pointed to - people will go against what they ideologically support because someone they don't like as a person supports the same thing.

I think most independent people backed off their support of the wall when trump started lying about it-How effective it would be, the cost, whos paying for it, so on. But thats jmo. I’m sure a lot are fer it or agin it based solely on tds.

I think turning down the invite makes the team look bad, not Trump. And I think they may turn down the invites so they don't have to have the conversation with him. If they do, then they can't bitch about him not listening on it anymore.

You can't lie about something you don't know. No one can answer how effective the wall will be. Why? Because we've never had one and seen how effective it will be.

And WTF is "tds"? I keep seeing it here and I have no idea what the hell it is.
TDS = Trump Derangement Syndrome

They weren't jaywalking. Your average American doesn't get indicted for bank fraud, conspiracy, and obstruction of justice. My favorite, though, is lying to the FBI. Really. How effing stupid do you have to be to lie to the FBI?

Yore average american doesn't get investigated by the FBI.

Here's my thoughts on all of this FBI stuff. They aren't out to get Trump per se, but the establishment does not like any outsider breaking into the ranks. This whole investigation is a warning from both the Dems and the Pubs that if you are an outsider and you somehow get elected, that they will go after your friends and family and cause them legal and financial pain and suffering. This is effective- people might be strong enough to take on attacks directed at themselves, but no one wants to see friends/family in suffering.

It's just like the Mafia really.

no one has backed off support for the wall. In fact, I think there are probably more supporters.

I just don't trust the polls and with very good reason.

I don't think Roger Stone is much of a friend of The Don's.

No link yet. Just got a tip about 45 minutes ago. Trump to speak soon. He could always change his mind. But the idea is short term open to pay employees. Close it up again in a few weeks.
So basically the bill that just failed to pass in the senate?

I don’t know details. I think the bills that were failing aren’t clean.

This re-opens the government. Kind of like a CR. If nothing happens in 3 weeks, they close it down again.

fine. he was an associate who worked on the campaign. Doesn't change the point, for fuk's sake.
Yes... it does. I don't think Trump gives a shit what happens to Stone, or Cohen. He doesn't care at all, so long as he, himself, won't be involved or inconvenienced.

What's the point of doing this, the reason for the shutdown was lack of a spending plan, no?

So now we open it back up to pay people, but then shut it back down before they actually do anything to earn the pay. Doesn't that seem counter intuitive?

If that happens, he won't ever get a dime for a wall. Now that the democrats know he'll blink first, they will just do the same thing in three weeks.

I tend to agree. He's toast if he doesn't get the wall and I am sure he knows it. Maybe he has decided not to run again.

He’s getting a lot of heat. The grounding of flights at LGA was bad today. It’s going to get worse. President always is the biggest loser on shutdowns.

Most people are working and haven’t been paid for 2 pay periods now. We haven’t been paid for the December work we completed.

If that happens, he won't ever get a dime for a wall. Now that the democrats know he'll blink first, they will just do the same thing in three weeks.

He’s catching a lot of heat. This isn’t the issue to shut the government down over. I do agree though. It’s bad if he capitulates here. His base will be pissed.
