2020 recruiting and commitments

He's a 2021 recruit. He would be HUGE for us, and just another 5* for Clemson.
after dominating alabama in the title game clemson is now widely viewed as a dynasty. and dynasties stock up on four and five stars who are willing to wait their turn. some carolina fans on this board were rooting for clemson in the playoff for the glory of the conference. but as a tar heel fan i'd prefer the dynasties to be in other conferences and other parts of the country, not next door.

Greensboro Dudley's Myles Murphy commits to UNC.

We are adding some major talent on D. The good ole days are returning.

And so it begins...Costal Division be afraid be very afraid...
If we also land Des Evans and Kedrick Bingley-Jones, we will have matched Clemson in at least 1 area: we will have signed enough DL talent to win a National Championship.

That is how close we are now to seeing UNC take control of the Coastal with the ability to battle Clemson head to head for the ACC Championship and a Playoff spot.

1 step at a time...Let’s get control of the Costal and get back to beating state and dook...Not ready for Clemson yet...

If we win the Coastal then we get a crack at them. Anything can happen in one game, and they've lost a few head scratchers during their run the past several years. Not to mention the lucky near misses against Syracuse and the wusspeckers.

Of course they're on a different level, but the idea is to give them the best run that we can.

I just noticed the Simpson and Muhammad have committed toe auburn and Texas a&m respectfully. Was kinda hoping to get Simpson Muhammad would have been ok but we have some good WRs already committed.

We could have really used Simpson.
Yep, but if we make the DL a true beast, then the D can dominate even with a less than dominating LB corps.

With Simpson, I hope we remain very friendly and in touch. Malzahn may be get canned if Auburn loses to Bama and finishes no better than 7-5.

Definitely need to keep in touch and stay in his ear.

3* RB Elijah Green of Roswell, GA commits, giving the class 3 RBs.

Does that mean that Mack thinks Carter may leave a year early? That we fear RB injuries and/or transfers? That Burris may de-commit?

Burris decommitting is this just speculation?

I am wondering about taking 3 RBs in a class. Mack did it at Texas, but he wasn't running an Air Raid. And he often had three or four 4 or 5* RBs in a class who really wanted to go to Texas.

Why is he taking 3 in this class?

Burris committed to Fedora. This staff allowed it to stand, but sometimes guys feel like they do not belong with the new regime even if the old regime's offer is kept in place.

The problem is that Burris may not have many other close to equal options.

Green may be a top sleeper RB in the entire South. He has been slowed by injury, and even so Mich St has been very big on him. Mich St has a long history of finding great 3* RBs, because they can't sign the 4 and 5*s away from Mich, Ohio St, Penn St, ND, etc.

Devon Lawrence is no longer on the roster plus Williams is a SR this year. Carter will be a SR next year but may opt to leave early for the NFL if he breaks out.

Possibly all of the above. You need depth at critical positions and Mack has said he wants to run the ball. That makes RB a critical position.

i have no problem with recruiting a bunch of good rb's. one of saban's successful innovations at bama is the running back by committee. kids have no problem with it knowing they'll get their turn if they continue to improve and grow stronger. kids with nfl aspirations don't need to be the only featured back these days. they've wised up to the fact that nfl teams depend on their own scouting reports -- not college stat sheets. if anything, gaudy stats in college raise a concern that the kid may be worn down already.

Does the de-commitment of Sean Martin mean that we are about to see a couple of major DL commitments? Say from Desmond Evans and Kedrick Bingley-Jones?

If that happens, then with the 2020 class, we would have enough DL talent to win an ACC Championship by 2021 and make the playoffs. Assuming, of course, that the rest of the team progresses reasonably.

Dabo took Clemson to the very top after hiring Venables and making certain that Clemson focused on major D talent, starting with, and primarily emphasizing, the DL.

Yes Clemson's upgrade on the DL is what has helped somewhat. Clemson will likely be better at the DE position overall this year, but not so at DT. But the future is bright with Bresee, Williams, the Georgia Myles Murphy and Capehart. Add the possibility of getting Burch and this might historically be the best recruiting class since star ratings were done?

Yet it has been the upgrade in talent at the DL in conjunction with elite level talent at QB and WR, and now finally at RB. Deshaun Watson got things going at QB, now Trevor Lawrence, and going forward with DJ Uiagalelei.

Defensive coordinators are going to have nightmares thinking about having to cover Ross, Higgins, Ladson, Ngata, and Overton, plus it is looking like Rodgers will be back maybe before mid-season. All this with Trevor Lawrence and Chase Brice doing the slinging.

So yes, UNC has upped their recruiting, but so has Clemson. Essentially Clemson is now recruiting in football like UNC has been recruiting in basketball, so you guys should be well aware what elite talent can do your your team, to go along with good coaching.

As of right now we have 3 of the Top 10 in N.C. committed and all play D and 2 are Dline with Evans being a heavy UNC lean...I have always said if UNC can land half of the top 10 guys in N.C. every year we can be a force in the ACC...
