2020 recruiting thread

Not unless another scholarship opens up. We are full.

This

Although Roy has stayed in contact with Zaiare Williams , Kerwin Walton, & one other that the name escapes me at the moment. If the situation with this team stays status quo until the end of the season, there is the possibility that one or more scholarships open up in the spring. So, 2020 recruiting might or might not be finished. But.., probably safe to assume that we are full until we find out we are not.

Yep.

However, I did hear something on the twitter that was very interesting about Ziaire and to not count us out with him. He expects a scholly to open up, we expect a scholly to open up, and thus he's slow playing his recruiting.

He could pop for Arizona or USC tomorrow, but until he does, I think we have a better chance than most with him.

Agreed, the lines of communication have stayed open with Zaiare. Would be a really great pick up to go with the 5 coming in. Also believe that the Walton kid would be a nice addition, if Zaiare decides to play elsewhere. The other player that I can't remember at the moment is a 3/4 as well, but not a highly ranked one.

Don't trust it. The recruiting article on Ziaire said Roy is keeping in contact just in case Ziaire waits till after the season to commit and a scholarship possibly opens up, but that Ziaire is likely choosing a college within the next month or so and is extremely unlikely to go to UNC. Likely going to a West coast school.

Yeah, I believe that Evan Daniels wrote that article? He is fairly in tune with recruits, and what the scoop is on them. No reason to lose hope though, until he does what is mentioned. Recruits do the strangest things at times, however, I suspect that in the end, he stays out west.

Agree it’s be great to get Zaire, but looking at the incoming backcourt and other parts and I’d say he isn’t so urgently needed:
RJ is a beast
Love is a beast
Ant Harris will hopefully return
Jeremiah will have this years trial by fire as experience.
Puff should help
Leaky won’t need to run point... he is quite good elsewhere on the court.

That’s a pretty solid six players to man the backcourt/wing positions.

Up front there’ll be Garrison, Mando, Sharpe, Kessler with Manley maybe returning.

Overall, a much more ‘gifted’ lineup to look forward to.

Not a 2020 recruiting questions but 2018 (didn’t want to start another thread). Did we offer Devon Dotson (Kansas guard)? If not why was it because of having coby? Why not have them both one at PG the other at SG.

devon dotson wasnt gonna come here once coby committed he even started a beef with coby to which coby simply responded you mad bro...

Devon Dotson got the UNC offer before Coby did
yup and he slow played Roy even though he really was gonna come to unc. Roy told him look either your in or we are gonna offer this other kid... Coby freakin White... Dotson chose to continue the recruiting process; coach Roy offered White... White jumped all over the offer. Dotson got big mad because once White accepted coach Roy stopped recruiting Dotson. He overplayed his hand

How do we discern slow playing Coach or just waiting until spring signing period to better position oneself as to potential team?
I do believe if Ziaire would like to be a Tar Heel, we have a spot.

Reading some things about Greg brown seems we had a real good chance to land him and Cunningham but messed up somehow according to his dad. Not sure if this is true or he’s mad because we went with other prospects. Also, mentioned we changed recruiting coordinators I must’ve missed that....appears I forgot after researching. This is probably a case of a pissed off parent and kid getting their little feelings hurt. Bottom line is if you want to attend the best school on the planet then commit we don’t need to stroke your ego. Being recruited by UNC should be enough to stroke your ego.

It's very simple..."Greg Brown is the type of recruitment that UNC does not normally win". Roy had reasons to back offf and don't expect to get anything specific from anyone in authority at UNC.

I kinda understand that but we seemed to win these types in the past so not sure why we aren’t now. Reasons we may never know. Glad to have the guys we have though.

Nope, not when it "may" involve $$. Roy backs away when he senses something fishy. Roy learned a lesson in the Udoka recruitment.

Any updates on Zaire Williams? Im not hearing anything. I really think we need him way more than people think or that 3 position will be even worse than this year with Robinson leaving.

The Zaire recruitment has been quiet for all schools not just UNC. A very interesting recruitment. I really hope UNC lands him, would be the best class in the country and the only position left that is needed

We choose Kessler over Brown. Not much else to say about it. We weren't gonna take 3 big men with 4 on our roster already.

There will be more overall talent next season. There are lots of really big men and lots of really small men. Leaky Black and Donovan Johnson appear to be the only midsize players. They both lack the lateral quickness that we will need out of the small forward position

I would not focus on Zaire. Almost assuredly staying on west coast. USC or Arizona. Walton more likely than Williams.

Kessler is one of the most skilled big men I’ve seen in a long time. He can do it all; score with a variety of moves around the basket, shoot the trey effectively, and defend the basket. He is better than Armando right now. He has scoring moves with either hand that none of our current bigs possess.

I watched the video carefully. Kessler did not miss a single shot! Very impressive as I have never seen a guy never miss. Wait a minute, could this be spliced and not the real deal? Suspicious...

Lol.

I just hope he dunks all the time when possible just like the highlights. We have too many missed bunnies. Just dunk it!

I think he will be a very good player, but nothing I saw in those highlights tell me he will be effective and defend the basket. He's a little slow actually, and didn't look like there was a defender big enough in those highlights.

I personally think he struggles a bit next season if he has to defend the basket. Personally, I think he looks like a stretch 4 that can and that's about it.

Then we’ll agree to disagree.

Fair enough. To me, he looks like a Matthew Hurt type, really tall but really skinny and has never had to bang down low with guys much bigger and a few years older.

Right. He didn't dominate 2021 top 5 recruit Jabari Smith Jr. Oh wait.....

I'm not saying he didn't, but your point for comparison here is off. Jabari Smith is neither bigger nor a few years older than Kessler.
