2020 recruiting thread

Right. He didn't dominate 2021 top 5 recruit Jabari Smith Jr. Oh wait.....

These games mean nothing when kids get to college. Bacot was looking to be one and done until he got to college. Cole looked great until he got to college. I could go on.

Kessler is a great player, but I temper expectations this early.

I saw Walker play AAU vs multiple high level D1 players...he was the best guy on the court.

He's really, really good.
From what I've seen, he's pretty dominant. I saw him play a couple of years ago and he was real good then.

Hate to say it but I agree with dads above.
Some kids got it, they pass the eye test and they tend to do very many things on court very well.

Looks to me like Tyler Zeller with a better Jumpshot. I loved Zeller, and if he is as good as him with a better shot, look out.

Roy offered Dontrez Styles, Kinston kid.

Really happy to see that Roy handed Dontrez the offer tonight. This is one that many of us have been watching due to his affinity for the Heels and his unofficial visit during the season. It also seems like he has continued to progress over the last year and earned some high praise after his performance at the John Wall Invitational.

A quick commit would be a nice bang to get the class going as we are going to need another big class in 2021 with the graduation of the 17 class and possible one and dones from 2020.

Great offer. Right in our backyard too. A little later than usual, but could be our quick commit we've been getting for the last decade or so.

Puff most likely will be the starter at the wing when 2021 when if Styles arrives in 2021.

...listen when Jared speaks.
That was the case; however, I did get my source in trouble.... Believe it or not the parents of recruits get on these boards and since I used my guy's name, he was actually called into the office. (He got a stern warning, in which I am thankful that's all it was.) I no longer get all the info from him. I felt really bad that it happened and obviously told him I wouldn't be using his name or giving direct information. (Still trying to fix that relationship.) A lesson for me and everyone on the board and you never know who is reading the forums. I will still give info when its given to me, I will just have to be more careful!

Yeah man, never name names. You have a proven track record around here - no reason for you to have to name any source to people who are getting accurate information from you.

Jerks are the ones who ask for it.

Fair enough. To me, he looks like a Matthew Hurt type, really tall but really skinny and has never had to bang down low with guys much bigger and a few years older.

Lewis, the kid is 7"0" and 245lbs, while yeah, can and needs to carry more weight, 245lbs isn't Matt Hurt skinny...

Jaden Bradley has been offered. PG 2022

Love this kid. When I saw him play in person his b-ball IQ seemed off the charts. As a PG, he has great vision & is just a natural scorer. The best part to me was that he seemed to know the right thing to do all the time & just let the game come to him. If he needed to score, he scored, if he needed to pass, he passed. Dude can play!

anyone heard any rumblings of us losing 1 or 2 players from this yrs team to transferring ??

Roy is recruiting hard for 2020 so it obvious he knows that a player or two will not be returning.

Any idea as to who might be leaving?
Why do I feel this is bait to bring about yet another back and forth about the merits of 1 much talked about player being on the roster for his senior year.

I will ignore the bait, but ooh boy, I don't think everyone will...lol.

Carolina has now put in a call to Santa Clara transfer Trey Wertz. I'm at the point now that I don't have a clue what we're doing and how many scholarships we might have to work with.

It's likely not him, or at least if it's him then 2 players are leaving.

It's someone else and if you think about it, it shouldn't be that difficult to figure out when you look at playing time (or lackthereof).

I meant that he's not a banger or a guy that has played against ACC bigs. Kessler is a tough kid that wants to move around the perimeter and shoot. Perhaps if he stays longer than one year, he could develop into that, but he's a shooter not a guy you plant in the paint like Bacot.

You are not alone! Roy has been shopping the grad transfer market. Wertz needs to be a real asset. Trey is from Charlotte so we got that much going. Vandy might be too far for his family.

Huff is the only person that halfway makes sense to me. I’d like to see him transfer to UNC-G to play for Wes. He could start there and have success at that level. But he(limited ability) and Sterling(injures) are never going to play much at UNC. I’m not sure Jeremiah(injuries) is going to either. Those young men from Pickerington have really gotten a raw deal. They’re very fortunate to have gotten a scholarship from Roy and not the guy down 15-501. He would have yanked their scholarships last spring.

Trey Wertz is a regular transfer, not a grad. He will have to sit a year.

He's also from Charlotte so maybe that helps us as well.

Thanks Rose. Didn't mean to imply Wertz was a GT when he chose the same route as KJ Smith. Geography often helps in recruiting.

This video shows his full repertoire of scoring moves, including his ability to put the ball on the floor and initiate the fast break. The guy has the whole package, including being a top student.

I think he'll be a great player but nothing there tells me he's a center. If Roy puts him in the post more often than not, he will struggle against older guys. I love him as a stretch 4.

That video tells me that Bacot better get his butt in the gym! It will be hard to keep that kid on the bench. Bacot at 5 with Kessler and Leaky would be a fun frontline! Brooks, Bacot, and Kessler would be an interesting jumbo look too! This team could just be a Mad Scientist's dream

I hadn’t heard rumblings of anyone leaving til I just saw 0015 ask.. I can’t really see it being Platek, he plays 18 mins/game.

He only played a few minutes a game at the end of the year. With what we have coming in, that's about what he will get next year unless there are a lot of injuries again. I don't think he transfers though.
