2020 recruiting thread

He only played a few minutes a game at the end of the year. With what we have coming in, that's about what he will get next year unless there are a lot of injuries again. I don't think he transfers though.
Platek is a short, slow, white guy with a good basketball IQ. With all those stereotypes and cliches going for him, he should be thinking about coaching.

Would it benefit him to learn from another good coach for 2 more years? In his shoes, which coach would you want to learn from to add to your coaching chops?

I think he'll be a great player but nothing there tells me he's a center. If Roy puts him in the post more often than not, he will struggle against older guys. I love him as a stretch 4.
That's what I thought from the first clip I watched, and this just reinforces it.

Seems clear he should be able to dominate in the post against short teams or similarly scrawny centers, but he'll need to bulk up and perhaps quicken a few of his moves to survive against top competition. Play him at PF and even stretch 4 and he's already a star.

I want to know how good he really is at treys. And if he will still be good with the new line.

Other than blocks, how's his D? This kid starts day 1 and plays all the minutes he can handle for Boeheim because of the zone. Maybe takes longer for us.

A coach that has three rings.

He's had 3 years to learn Roy's methods.

Maybe learn something very different by trying to join UVa or Cuse?

Obviously there's a question of whether those coaches would want him, so he can't just pick anyone. But I bet there's a lot he could learn from them.

And again, that's assuming he has an interest in coaching. Might not care.

He can learn from another coach when he gets hired after graduation. Doesn't make much sense to leave at this point.

I don't really give much thought to guys leaving, either via transferring or pursuing their pro aspirations. They have to do whatever they feel is in their best interests. I don't see much PT available for Huff, Platek, or Miller. So if one or more of them decides that PT is the most important factor to them, then I wish them nothing but the best. I have no idea if any of our guys will transfer or not, time will tell.

Huffman and Platek will never get drafted. Does it make sense to transfer?

Compare these 2 options for both players:

Option 1: A UNC degree, practicing against former, current, and future NBA players, and the best seats in the house for all UNC games, plus many other perks.

Option 2: Sit a year. Use their year of eligibility elsewhere at a Division 2 school averaging 10 pts a game.

Bench players at UNC are drafted and/or play for pay more often than D2 starters! Get the degree and parlay that UNC connection into coaching or overseas $

I really hope none feel another place would be better for them because that would mean they feel the Family isn't enough. But I will also support any of them no matter what they decide since they are and always will be Family!

If Wertz were to commit and have to sit out next year, does he still count against the scholarship count for next year? I think he would.

If not it would be great to have both. I think we really need Walton as a shooter next year.
Yes, Wertz would count against the 13 limit.

Be nice if this alleged transfer would get a move on.
Yeah, not sure what the holdup is on the announcement. A lot of kids are already in the transfer portal. In all honesty, it sure would be nice to have two scholarships right now. I think Roy could land both Walton and Wertz pretty quick if he had two spots.

Hopefully Platek will follow and we can bring in Walton and Wertz! Would be the best situation for us and them!
Yes. If we’re all being honest, that is what would be best for all parties and I’m guessing Roy could land both Walton and Wertz.

I would bet that the NCAA would grant Wertz or any other player who wants to transfer closer to home immediate eligibility due to the Corona virus

NCAA will vote this month on a new one time transfer rule that allows players to be immediately eligible. If it passes they will vote on it again in May to finalize it.

I am against it. They can't adequately police the sport now and this will add players on current rosters to the wild west that is college bb recruiting.

Wertz is going to announce tomorrow. Down to Arizona, Butler, Notre Dame, and UNC. Is it just a coincidence he is ready to announce immediately after Huffman's departure opens up the scholarship ?
