2021 Recruiting Thread

Tar Heels reach out to elite 2022 wing Caleb Houstan
A 6-foot-7, 190-pound small forward at Montverde Academy, Caleb Houstan is ranked No. 7 in the 247Sports Composite. He’s No. 2 among small forwards and No. 2 in Florida. Rivals ranks Houstan even higher, tabbing him as the No. 5 recruit in the 2022 class. Coaches from North Carolina, Virginia, and Virginia Tech all placed calls to Houstan on Monday. (Keeping It Heel)

They actually reached out to him before covid-19....since coaches have not been out they are lighting it up now contacting in to the class of '22.

Andrew Nembhard didn't add us to his final list so we're probably out

Nemhard didn’t even play fast enough for Florida’s liking so I seriously doubt Roy looked at him.

Solid player, though, so I hope he stays out West.

Looks like we will be offering 2022 Jarace Walker soon. I'd post it in the relevant thread but we don't have one yet.

Also, this might be another Dream School situation. I've heard from two separate people that Jarace is dying for a UNC offer.

I like him as a prospect, but he's another one of those wings that are more PF than SF at this point. There are obvious comparisons to Nassir, though Jarace looks like much more of a natural. But yea he's absolutely jacked and has super long arms.

REALLY hoping you're right about him getting an offer. I posted a screenshot on premium a while back (if anyone that currently has it can find the thread, feel free to post it here) from Instagram where he was commenting "UNC" on Cade Cunningham's recruitment posts. 2 separate occasions IIRC.

If we don't slow play him I bet we could possibly wrap his recruitment up sooner than later.

For such a highly ranked recruit, I'm shocked we are the only blue blood on his list.
Could def see it. He was such a low key prospect while I was watching him in Cartersville a year ago. Tbh I’m not surprised at all. In fact, we didn’t even know who he really was when we saw him. We were watching Caleb Mills and then PSB. He was a court over lol

Considering that those other Blue Bloods have been frivolously paying OAD recruits, it does worry me a bit that maybe they know they can’t outspend the G with regards to Chet.

And now all sports are in a recruiting dead period until August 31, 2020. This is fun...

Saw a little read re Caleb Houstan, guess we can move on, in his blog he had some 7 schools listed and no UNC.

I had heard a lot about that date from other players, so I was excited going into it and it was a lot of fun. I heard from schools like Duke, Alabama, Arkansas, Gonzaga, Michigan State and Arizona and they all offered me.

I get that, goodnumber, my covid mis-speak......just no Carolina offer, yet. Just a feeling and boom, now into a dead period, we're all in need of some Tar Heel Basketball!

Emoni Bates may easily just skip college, with his incredible talent level, but he verbally committed to Michigan State today!

Makur Maker picks a HBCU (Howard) over UCLA, Kentucky, and Memphis. Mikey Williams looks to be a HEAVY lean to also choose a HBCU.

Both are NBA skilled guys, especially Mikey, so big money with G-league offers very well may be the ultimate destination.

And we are looking in on a '23 kid already. Since it is Roy, I 'm gonna guess he is a pg, and at or near the highest rated of them...also wouldn't surprise if staff had eyes on him before covid-19.

Penny got a nice defensive big in Cisse today as well. His moving to Memphis seems very similar to the issue Penny had with Wiseman though. We will see if NCAA looks.

Eric Bossi says we are in the lead for Hunter Sallis

Styles said the two recruits he is working on is Sallis and Dunn

As the world turns, I like that staff has really worked on Hunter Sallis and that he is listening. I like that the guys are communicating, I hope '21 comes close to our '20 class. And Dunn would not be chopped liver.

Hope that "dark cloud" hanging out in Lawrence starts to actually make recruits weary now that they (and others) have received an NOA.
