It's possible that some of them might read message boards, although I think the younger set is geared more towards Twitter and other social media apps. But I can't imagine any of them putting any real stock in it. They might point and laugh a little about some of the more ridiculous opinions, and our level of obsession.

Brice: Hey Big Joel, you hear that @Hark_The_Sound_2010 guy say you shouldn't be getting PT? Lulz.

Yes, that's the way I envision it going - and I'd obviously hope they wouldn't get worked up over it, because after all I'm clearly not some great basketball mind if I'm sitting here posting on a message board instead of getting paid to coach/recruit/play (sorry G7 but that's the truth).

I just have never understood when posters say stuff like "jeez, ripping our own - recruits will never want to come here!". If a recruit is stupid enough to make his college decision based on what some bozo like me posts on a damn message board, I'd rather not have him come to UNC anyways. The team got a rep for being soft this year - imagine if it were stocked with a bunch of softies that were crying on Roys shoulder cuz that meanie Hark said they shouldn't get any minutes!?

I'd say good luck with that then. Not sure what he is hearing or seeing, but he isn't ready.

Could he think maybe his athleticism and basketball skills at this level are what they are and won't improve with another year? Doesn't want to hurt his stock anymore with a year of having to be the focal point in the offense and possibly over-exposing some of his weaknesses?

Since Meeks is obviously reading this, I'll add that he has made some fine contributions to this program and we have been blessed to have him.

Hmm, whats this? Seems that seconds after you said this Meeks had a change of heart, citing that he now feels like he is properly appreciated by the Rivals poasters. Well done @tarheel0910 , if he comes back it's all thanks to you!

I think, on some level, the NCAA is in a pickle. It's taking a while because; handling this is a very precarious thing. They know, full well, that there are legions of people who, regardless of the actual circumstances, see the AFAM classes as being the ultimate proof of infractions that will finally allow them to "get even" with the University of North Carolina. It's the dream of so many Wolfpack fans. It doesn't matter to them that NC State University, and all other universities, also have classes that provide the SAME THING to it's "student athletes." This is about getting even for their team's losses and their losses as fans. No more, no less. So, the NCAA knows they have a situation here. They want to make sure they can maintain their control (whatever that is) and they have to appease the large number of fan bases that are going to be disillusioned if the penalties are not harsh enough. Meanwhile, they know that this is really not within their jurisdiction, and, they are, in some ways, just as complicit as anyone else!

I just had brilliant idea. In order to gain more insight on what the recruits and players are doing/thinking, we should start an "ask me anything" thread for them. We can gain valuable intel and pass this information to Roy so he can adjust his recruiting approach and help current players with any issues they have.

IF players read a Carolina message board -- and that in itself is a big "if" -- it would be IC and not here. IC is the much bigger site with more posters and more threads and content (A.J. does a great job here but his staff isn't big enough to put out all the content IC puts out). Additionally, IC is much more wacky and reactionary than this site, so yeah.

And if they do read TarHeelIllustrated, I'm sure it would be Raider and not our measly one thread here at OOTB about basketball (who knows though?...they may be keeping tabs on the Random Picture Thread). So I think we're safe to say whatever we want in this thread.

Honestly they probably get sick of the Radar conspiracy theories too, and come over here for a breath of fresh air (i.e. reality) like the rest of us...

Agreed. Even more so than Tokoto last year. At least JP has NBA athleticism. Weird. He must be unhappy about something.

I don't think that is it. I think his plan has been to leave after this year all along. While I know he struggled this year and probably isn't ready it is difficult to change one's mind about something like that when you have always been planning to go.

Well hell, everyone wants to be a kwality poaster . .

Don't know if the 'Kwality Meter' is on a numerical or alphabetic scale, or maybe its both or it could be neither . . and wheres the cutoff line for being considered kwality . . ?

I wonder if saying anything bad about Joel Berry or Roy hurt your kwality ratings by the kwality judge over on THR . . ?

Radar is operational during the offseason? Who knew? I won't venture over there again until like, February.

You know you will be over there before then. That board is like crack, it's addicting.

I do too, but whatever he decides is fine by me. No player should ever let a sense of loyalty to a university cause him to pass up an opportunity to be financially secure for life.

Agreed. But no player should be pushed out the door for the sake of recruiting and no player should feel obligated to go because "his stock will never be higher" or "next year's draft is stronger than this year's" or whatever other reason talking heads use to make a case. Some kids simply may want to get an education or just enjoy a somewhat normal college experience. Some kids may want wait just because. But their hand is often forced by the narrative created against those that stay in college 3 or 4 years. I don't like that. We're making these kids grow up too fast and many are t ready. Sad.

Exactly.

Don't think I haven't noticed your sig, by the way. Slow nod.

Random question for those of you who are Hornets fans... do the crowd at TWC Arena do the "Tar...... Heels!" chant during games?

Could have sworn I could hear it during the Orlando game the other night (just watched the game replay).

I've never heard it. Anything is possible, but I'd expect it would be disrupted with booing before it got going well enough to hear.

Must have been a similar sounding chant.

Would the boo's come from fans of other schools in Carolina, or is there more to it?

I like these contextual lessons.

My guess would be from anyone not a UNC fan and those who just fall in line with the rest of the group.

The N&O frontpage is all UNC and the new NOA. I guess no news happens in the Triangle.......................

And the ONLY reason I even went on that stupid newspaper's website is to try to find more news on a family member of a friend who was murdered yesterday.

So Jackson and Meeks declare without agents. Smart to go ahead and get the temperature now, but I don't believe either are ready. They could benefit from another year.

On a funny note, gary believes he was right all along about Meeks.

I got a chuckle out of that. The "as expected" comment. After not committing to saying he was gonna stay or go.

That's like if I said it's gonna rain someday this month. Then once it did rain, saying - see, I called it.

Or in the other thread where he was "told" that Meeks was 90% staying. But hey, it doesn't matter right? No one cares if he really knows anything. They've already said as much. They just enjoy the news!

Bubba acknowledged receipt of new NOA. dip fuks on twitter are claiming they know what penalties it will contain. HEY IDIOTS THERE ARE NO PENALTIES IN AN NOA!!!
