I get not wanting your school to turn into OAD U, believe me it can be really irritating, but you guys already have Little who is OAD (despite what GSD says) and are going after Zion who will be OAD... so maybe some of your fans should lay off bashing OAD players a bit. It's not like they're evil for wanting to get a guaranteed contract and make millions. Hell you guys had a OAD player last season and Felton very well could be gone after this year. It used to be maybe the top 5 would be OAD, now I expect anyone in the top 30 to be OAD and am pleasantly surprised if they return.
I swear Radar makes me lose IQ points just by reading it. Sad thing is, it’s only a true handful of people that give it a bad name. That and poor moderating.
The homer-ism is what bothers me most.
I prefer FC so much more because I feel it's filled with our most rational fans and those that probably lean toward being too hard on our team.
I'd much rather that than certain posters trying to find the nearest bridge when they heard JB wasn't on some media AA list.
I'm with you to an extent. My biggest thing is I definitely don't want UNC to be a revolving door roster where you don't know any of the team year to year. With that said, I'm ok with us having 1 or 2 every couple of years. I agree that the majority of the top of each recruiting class think they will be one and done. We have been lucky that a number of the top 10 guys Roy has successfully recruited stuck around for a few years (Lawson, Ellington, Barnes, Jackson off the top of my head all were top 10 and stayed at least 2 years). Like I said, I would really probably like to land more of those guys than we have been able to recently but not at the expense of it being a new roster every year. I'd happily take Zion though.
I think the problem is though, if you're not seen as a place that will get you to the league and showcase your skills, it's tough to routinely pull in top 20 talent anymore. Roy's pitch, even if he's no longer hindered by an NCAA cloud might not resonate with someone who has NBA aspirations. So an Ellington, Barnes, Lawson, or McAdoo of yesterday might bypass us today.
I don't necessarily want to become like Kentucky. But I do wish some of our fans were a little less uptight about wanting to attract NBA style talent. I love Luke Maye, but the people saying they'd choose him over Bagley are insane. Why not both? Does no one think that's possible?
Timo on the duke board once told me Kyrie Irving made it "cool" to go to Duke again. Hate to say it, but he's right. I think UNC needs that It factor again.
Above everything else, I'm just sick of getting beaten by our rival every year. We've only beaten dook 5 times this whole decade! That's unacceptable to me. And I think recruiting has had a lot to do with it.
It's hilarious to me how much Radar DESPISES OAD players. I called them out a few weeks ago for referring to OADs like they're ardent criminals and the scum of the earth. The usual suspects pushed back and said no one does that on Radar. Lolz... okay.
My stance on OAD players has been the same through the years:
1. I hate the rule, not the players. For this reason, I can never be mad of Calipari. He capitalizes on an existing rule.
2. Having a team full of OAD players makes it difficult to win a national title, simply because it's hard to gel in just 6 months.
3. I do not begrudge any player for being a OAD. Take the money if it's there and it's best for you and your loved ones.

Such a view derives from fans' selfishness and them not wanting to have to learn new players each year. Basketball isn't like football or baseball. The best high school basketball prospects do not need 3-5 years of seasoning before they're ready for the pros, like high school baseball and football players do. The best basketballers are ready for an NBA team the second they graduate high school, or at most, after one year of college ball.
It's just how it is. Just a difference in sports.

I don't really know what the baseball rule is, but at least from my observation, most people seem to want the high school kids who want to go to the NBA to just go ahead and go, and the ones who choose to go to college must stay 2-3 years.
Personally, if it were up to me, I'd just make things the way they used to be and just let the high school players go to the NBA if they want, and if they want to go to college, still let them leave as early as they want. So if they want to skip the draft, go to college and still be OAD, let them, but I'm sure the OADs would be fewer and farther between.
Baseball rule is you have two options:
1. Go pro straight out of high school
2. You must stay 3 years and are only eligible for the MLB draft again during your junior (or RS soph) year.
I agree with you that there should be no 1-year rule. But for obvious reasons we've gone over a hundred times, the NBA likes the 1-year rule. You can't blame them at all for that. It's a whole season of free player development and scouting opportunities for them.

Basically. It isn't going anywhere, so the best thing we can do is shut up and deal with it.
yeah they should just make an age requirement, this 1 year removed from high school regardless of your age thing is silly IMO.
I think the NBA will go to something similar to the baseball rule but make it either go to the NBA out of high school or stay in college for 2 years. 3 would be nice, but that's probably not reasonable. 2 is fine. Silver has said many times that the current OAD rule isn't working.
I don't follow the NBA very closely. What is the reason why the OAD rule isn't working? It must be negatively impacting the NBA in some fashion because they don't (and shouldn't) care if it affects the college game.

Yeah, Duke is good. They are always good but this year they are really good IMO. They also will have a better shot in March to not succumb to the early exits we enjoy. They aren't going to be as dependent on shooting as usual and they rebound well. Allen won't stay this hot all year but they are very well rounded.
Still, UNC has a chance to be pretty good as well. I'm not sure how good but good enough to win against anyone on any given night I think.

How old are you? Seven? Because by the way you like to talk about duke’s dominance over us, you’d think you just picked up watching basketball.
What's the more frustrating antiquated belief of Roy's: that selling OADs on dreaming about their senior season works, or that games against State are even remotely as important as games against Duke?
Roy takes Duke just as seriously as State. It just so happens Duke is usually quite better than State. Roy coaches to teach in the regular season and win it all in the postseason. For Roy, the process is more important than the result (something he got from Dean) whereas K is a win at all costs, process be damned.
Either philosophy is fine, but fans don’t seem to be aware of it. It’s why Roy drops winnable games and doesn’t call TO’s. It’s also why K rides his stars and doesn’t develop a bench.
I’m also skeptical that Roy pitches the senior night thing to these kids. It might be a piece of it, but there’s more going on.

I agree with this, I just feel like if you told Roy that he could pick one to beat and one to lose to in a given year, he'd pick beating State.
