OOTB Carolina Basketball Discussion Thread

That was a bad loss for sure. There’s no dressing it up. But if I were gonna try, this is what I’d say.

We had a line up of Manley, Brooks, Johnson, Platek and Felton in when we were down 14 with 12 to go. Roy was doing his thing. You know, that thing where he makes what we believe are inexplicable decisions and looks like he couldn’t care less about the current game situation. It looks to me that Roy is content to put us in a situation that we have to work ourselves out of. We almost did and secretly, I think Roy would have been tickled pink if we had won a one possession game. But the “core four” couldn’t save us after we had dug such a big hole. Kenny was the only one of the 4 that played well.

We executed poorly, looked lethargic, shots weren’t falling and Roy didn’t seem to mind. As good as the win at UT was, this loss essentially nullifies it in terms of how a selection committee would view these two games. As irritating and embarrassing as it is, I do truly believe we’ll be better for it in the long run. I think we’re still a FF capable team and I think we’ll beat the dogshit out of OSU.

Go Heels.

Good effort, though I know you don't really feel committed to it.

To me, the most troublesome potential aspect is this is the sort of loss that happens in those season where we really simply aren't all that good. Hopefully that doesn't turn out to be the case. We'll see.

Yep. Some of those crazy lineups in the first half didn't help but dammit the Heels shot under 40%. You ain't gonna win many games doing that.
Yep, especially with the big men we have. No offense to them, but they just aren't ready to carry a team right now. Maybe in a year or two, but we just don't have that dominate big man that Roy can draw a play up for this year.

You could compile a team from your local L.A. Fitness court and they would hang within 10 of that Wofford team.

Totally pathetic performance last night. We still play defense as if we are unaware there's a line you can shoot from behind that gives you 3 points.

No. 33 was making our freshman bigs (and Luke a few times) look bad. He seems like a good player, but when he just took the ball right out of Brooks hands, holy crap! This is the 3rd smallest D1 school and he was schooling our youngsters.

I fear we are going to struggle big time in conference games when the level of talent is markedly better. If we aren't on fire from downtown, we're gonna be in trouble.

The UT win was nice, but this loss was of higher magnitude in the other direction. This loss would have offset a win against MSU, had we won that game.

It's the annual WTF game. The players sucked, Roy didn't care (cuz it wasn't NCSU), and they got caught in a trap game. Doesn't really matter obviously, but it may be the difference in a seed line come March.

@Hark_The_Sound_2010 do me a favor and have an Abita Purple Haze (or three) while you're in New Orleans. I doubt you can get that up in Boston. Quality brew.

I've had Abita before, not sure if I've had the purple haze though. Didn't realize it was a New Orleans brew, but I'm on it. Heading to cafe du monde in a minute to get the day started then I'll hop on the drinking train.

Yeah it's a local brew. Brewed in Abita Springs, La., which is like 30 miles outside of New Orleans.

Their Amber and Purple Haze are both good. If you like IPAs, their Turbo Dog is good as well.

I actually don't have an issue with the threes they hit last night. Besides the one Berry didn't cover correctly on the inbounds almost all of them were highly contested shots. That kid just makes tough shots. It is more just the average play and turnovers. If we just somewhat take care of the ball they win the game. Really this team just can't have bad games from the upperclassmen. We aren't going to win against many teams if that happens.

I disagree with Roy about the right and the 'prima donna' stuff. I just didn't think they were good enough. I thought Wofford was the better team, which is a little concerning.

So Cam played for the first time and we lost at home to Wofford. Guess that answers those questions about messing up the chemistry.

To your first point, maybe. But I think the committee, like Carolina fans, have come to expect this from Roy - the annual WTF game.

To your second point, I completely agree. I’m not all that wrapped up in seeding though because if your championship worthy, you’re gonna have to beat good teams. It shouldn’t matter which round you beat them in. Or at least that should be the mindset of the team.

Because no one goes to the Y anymore.
?

Is this doing your best me? You know, where you take what’s happening in your community and act like it’s a national trend? Of course there is more competition now for places to workout. But the Y brand is as strong as ever. The Y has really ramped up their 501 c3 side. Here locally, they’re raising more money than ever and are expanding. It’s like that in the Triangle area as well.

Last night didn't happen. That's all I'm gonna say.
I'm already over it, tbh.

1. It's so embarrassing that it's almost "easier" to dismiss, as weird as that sounds.

2. At least it's basketball and, even with this loss, we know we'll still be pretty good this season. If this was football, such a bad loss would mean we just suck the D of life.

These dec games mean NOTHING. they’re basically nfl preseason. U dont want to suck for sure but come end of the season we ALWAYS look back and see these “wtf” losses as nothing more than bumps in the road. If we were a bad team we woulda lost a couple more games by now. We aint gonna out talent anyone anymore though.

This message is brought to you by the Y. Now that we've hidden our religious connection, our goal is to kill threads. Call your local Y to find out how you can help.
