OOTB Carolina Basketball Discussion Thread

One of my golf buddies is a Wake alum/fan. He has season football tickets and tailgates at all the home games. They played at Notre Dame a couple of years ago and he and his son went up for it. Great guy. I've known a number of Wake fans over the years. Very good people for the most part. I, for one, would hate to see them leave the ACC, but, I realize I'm one of the old farts on here.

Question: Why is it the FSUs and Wakes of the world have these 7'4 monsters to throw against our bigs and UNC can't seem to sign anyone that even likes the dunk shot? What gives? I don't believe there's not a single one of those guys out there that would come here. Does Roy just choose not to recruit those types or what?

Based on the way we usually carve those teams up inside, I would say Roy is concerned with their defensive prowess.

Wake is such a waste of space in modern college football/basketball. The school and its fanbase, I mean, not necessarily how good or bad they are.

I'd swap them out for ANYONE with a 55,000+ capacity football stadium.

This is the basketball thread. Take your bitching about football to the football thread.

My cousin went to Wake Forest for undergrad and one of my great-grandpas went to Wake Forest's Baptist seminary school back in the '30s, but I have probably the closest historical association with Wake Forest one can have.

My great-great-great-great grandfather Alfred Dockery (as in the Alfred Dockery who was a U.S. Congressman in the 29th conference, representing N.C., and a brigadier general in the Civil War) oversaw the 1833 Baptist State Convention at Cartledge Creek Baptist Church in Rockingham. At said convention, the decision to establish Wake Forest University was ratified.

And still, I'd be down to jettison Wake Forest from the ACC lol

My blunder re: blocks/ blacks is so funny that I'm not even going to amend it.

As for THN wishing To replace Wake, he's completely football driven. He'd vote to move UNC to the SEC in a NY minute. I wouldn't.

Actually, I don't mind the ACC how it's constructed. I just wish I could make (2) changes, neither of which would damage basketball:
(1) Expel Wake and replace them with West Virginia
(2) Add Penn State as #15, and have Notre Dame join in football for #16

Yeah, Penn State sucks at basketball, but West Virginia is perennially in the Top 25 and has a pretty cool arena IMO. Plus they're good at baseball and certain Olympic sports like soccer.

Structure the football divisions like this (adjacent schools = crossover rivals):

Atlantic / Coastal
Duke -- North Carolina
GT -- Clemson
FSU -- Miami
Pitt -- Boston College
Penn State -- Notre Dame
West Virginia -- Virginia Tech
Louisville -- Virginia
Syracuse -- NC State

I have to admit that would be a dynamite football and basketball conference. I was for adding WVU and/or PSU when we were expanding, in lieu of Syracuse or BC. I'm also in favor of giving ND an ultimatum, you're all in or you're out! Period.

It would be nice to give Notre Dame that ultimatum, but it just doesn't make sense for the conference to use that power play yet. As much as we all hate them, Notre Dame is such a cash cow and such a mega prize that we have to keep slow playing it like we're doing. ND will eventually join full-time.

WVU or Penn State would be such a boon for this conference. West Virginia makes even more sense because of their good basketball and their geographic location. It would close the missing piece of the map and would really tie the conference together nicely, from North to South.

I agree but I'd prefer to keep Wake and Duke as well. If we're shedding teams, Syracuse and BC are my choices.
BC has to be kept because of their tie to Notre Dame, but I totally agree about Syracuse. They're on a geographical island and I have a gut feeling that, like Duke when K retires, Syracuse basketball will absolutely wither on the vine when Boeheim hangs it up. JB has built that program from scratch and there's no heir apparent.

WGAF about football in the basketball thread?

Meh- Childress backed it up though- especially that day in the ACCT. He wasn't a doosh like the guys in Derm.
Oh I'm well aware he backed it up .... he destroyed us. Hence my dislike for Wake - bad memories. He and Chris Paul (punk).

Bradley's bell was rung too hard and he's out for FSU.

Our chances just got much more slim to win that game. FSU is a very deep team.

Hey @tw3301 - I see you there.

Feel free to poast- a few people will heckle you for being a dookie- don't sweat it. This isn't like Radar where you will get banned for not walking the line.
Different board, same mods, makes a guy a little gun shy. I've posted on THR before though and never been banned so I'll give it a shot.

I'm not sure I agree, TBH. Bradley may very well turn out to be a beast, but he barely plays any minutes right now. His depth would've helped us against FSU, but his contributions -- thus far -- wouldn't have helped us much

This is sort of the Wild Wild West of THI - we go mostly ungoverned over here. Heelbent is a Mod that frequents this area - but he's more one of the guys.

I agree. As nice as it is to have him, it's not a definite game changer if he isn't playing right now. That said, I'm concerned (scared to death) over this game against FSU. Don't you know they'd love to come to Chapel Hill and stick their finger in our eye after that fb loss in Tally?
