The only good part about the mayo bowl was getting extra practices. We got those in. The game is irrelevant.

Extra practices? For what? Next season will likely be just as much of a medical clusterfvck.

This is some of the dumbest crap I've ever seen. Vaxxed college athletes that are totally asymptomatic... but test positive... are forcing these games to not be played. It's ridiculous and going to ridiculous lengths. They may as well postpone/suspend the entire college basketball season.

Completely agree. Going to be interesting to see if people still flip out in six months when the new variant pops up.

Arkansas State, Akron, and Liberty were the only teams in college football that gave up more sacks than we did this year. And those are all FCS programs that played multiple games against FBS teams where they would have been significantly overmatched. The OL needs a full rebuild. There isn't a single guy who really played well this year. Unfortunately, it's almost impossible to quickly rebuild an OL unit since young guys are almost never physically prepared to compete at this level. Longo's total lack of imagination in play calling compounds the problem. He seems to have no idea how to relieve the pressure with a short passing/screen attack.

Going into next year we'll have three of Mack's full classes that were ranked 9, 12 and 16th (8, 14, 14 on TOS) nationally. And yet it looks like there is virtually no chance of us having a good football team next year. The OL will still be terrible and it'll be a rookie QB standing in the pocket. Still going to have the same lackluster coordinators, and the same poor player development.

I think we were one of the worst in sacks allowed last year as well. Firing Searles was a no brainer. When Mack didn't fire him at the end of the season, that was the biggest indication that he feels no pressure here.

I'm having a hard time getting excited about the game tomorrow. It almost feels like a chore to watch.

At one point I assumed Searles was definitely gone, and thought Longo was on his way out as well. It’s clear that we need a better OL coach to be competitive and Mack is apparently not picking up on that. That’s concerning. It shouldn’t take any pressure to force Mack to fire Searles. He should’ve been going to Bubba asking for a budget to go get replacements.

Brown has already had his success.

I don't expect much tomorrow... I mean, the same old thing- Sam running for his life and another "We almost had it."

Brown is in perpetual "We're almost there" mode. I don't even know if they'll hit .500 next season since there's no Sam Howell. It will be the same mistakes, the same struggles, the same inconsistencies.

Maybe that's part of the problem. No money, and no potential replacements that WANTED to come to Chapel Hill. Brown is WAY past his prime.

That was my next thought. Maybe something behind the scenes is tying his hands. But at this point we’d be better off giving a shot to a up and comer that would at least have some potential upside.

Mack essentially has two job. Recruit and be the program CEO. He’s been incredibly successful in the recruiting game, but is failing miserably by retaining this coaching staff.

Maybe the team will get lucky and Maye will be really good, right out-of-the-gate.

ETA: I dunno how in the HELL Brown can get these recruits to come to CH.

Yeah it’s easy to bring big recruits to Bama, OSU, Clemson, etc. But doing it at Carolina without a single good season? He legitimately might be the best recruiter in college football

I watched the incoming class presentation, and he had me thinking "Damn! This team will be the best in the conference!"

But, of course, then it's over and I remember that the coaching staff is total garbage. The thing is, some of these recruits were due to the coaching staff! THEY helped recruit them!

Same thing I said the prior few yr's presentations.

Someone asked somewhere and I never saw the answer. Does the ACC still get the money? Is there still a payout and is it different if you win/lose?

Of all the moo-ey things... this is one of the moo-iest.
Apparently, they have only won 10 games once in their whole history. I guess I can understand why they would be desperate to count this one. Even a program as average as ours has multiple 10 win seasons. Yet another stat that we beat state in.

I can appreciate the anger and resentment but still infantile af to try and claim it as a win

could be wrong, but thought it was a base payout per conference, split payment per team in each bowl, paid expenses per team, and also based on the apr board.

for me, it’s easier to scheme up for them with our athletes on offense and defense…they have no qb, limited at receiver and a below average o-line.
Defensively either we look really good on D, enough to get us hyped going into 2022, OR we totally crap the bed against some junk offense and get pushed around up front.

A 2021 thing, offensively, would be a few pick-6 gifts from Sam or him finally attempt one too many scrambles which lead to an injury early.

NCSU game was so disappointing I kinda forget how our D played. They looked pretty good despite not having J Conley - until those last few passing plays
.
Leary had his worst QBR of the entire season - though Clemson might've been the only really good D they faced.
6 sacks
held them 2-10 on third down
just 3.9 yards per carry

Their O wasn't amazing statistically, so maybe it isn't worth getting excited about, but at least that side did better than avg for the yr.

I hope you didn't bet any money on that. This is turning out about as bad as I expected.
