Transfer Portal

I just don't see how starting 2 slow centers could possibly work with Hubert's system. And yeah I expect Maryland will be a big draw now that Hunter's high school coach is there.
Hunters high school coach is at VA Tech and not Maryland.

Someone please poast that pic of Mando holding the little Dickinson baby. Hahaha. That was hilarious.

Hunter Dickinson only shot from deep 57 times last season, but hit 42%. If he wants a role where he can do that more, and if we think he can hit at a high rate if he increases his volume (and gets guarded more on the perimeter) then he might work out pretty well.

He's also used to playing long minutes.

How would that impact our D? Can we have both Bacot and Dickinson on the floor at the same time for big stretches?

Hard to imagine Dickinson fitting into Hubert's scheme. He seems to want to go shorter and more perimeter-oriented. Having 2 monsters inside - possibly 3 if Washington gets there - seems like moving the opposite direction.

OTOH, would you really turn down Dickinson if he wants to be here? I sure wouldn't.

Dickinson will not be willing to be a backup on any team he chooses going forward, and as for starting along side of Bacot that a nightmare waiting to happen.

I see sophomore Hunter Sallis entered the portal a couple of days ago. We offered him, right? Should we take a look now?

He's 6'5 180 and was Gonzaga's 7th man, coming off the bench to play 16pmpg. Shot well from 2pt range (56.8%) and FT (78.0%), but not 3pt range (25.6).

I'm guessing he's looking for a starting gig somewhere, and that his poor 3pt shooting means we aren't interested, but what do you guys think?

Rumored to be heading back home to either Creighton or Nebraska.

I think the window closed on him at least a couple days ago. Seems as though we may be approaching the crescendo.

Creighton is going to be dangerous next year. They return everybody and just added Traudt and if they get Sallis, that's going to be tough to beat

UNC fans should keep in mind that the guy who drives that engine is their PG Nembhart --- real deal, and has a lot in common with Cadeau. They are decent without him, but they are national contenders with him.

Gary have to agree with you on this, he's an amazing point guard and they will be a national contender next year with him running the show.

Well, Dickinson has a softer shot than Bacon, and he can nail outside shots. He sets better screens. So if we have both and they cannot play together, then Dickinson should get more minutes.

Creighton was cursed the moment they injured Kendall. They will never make a Final Four as long as McDermott is coaching.
Are you under the impression that Creightonn has reached the Final Four before McDermott? Creightojn has been to the Elite 8 only 2 times: this year under McDermott and in 1941 when the NIT was at least as deep a tournanent. In fact, in 1941, the NCAA Tournament only had 8 teams total. So McDermott is the only Creighton coach to ever win multiple games in an NCAA tournament.

Well yes, Dickenson and Bacot can play together but they can't in Hubert's preferred offensive attack, you know Roy would have LOVED both of them on the floor together. Of course, not really worth discussing because it isn't going to happen so there is that.

6'5 200 - Paxson Wojcik
6'4 210 - Justin Moore
6'4 205 - Nicholas Timberlake
6'6 200 - Dalton Knecht

Five questions:

1. We already have Wojcik. How many more on that list can we or should we take (and who)?

2. At what point might we lose another player or 2 to the portal if we take more on this list?

3. I thought we needed front line guys.

5. Are any of those guys really SFs? I mean, sure, we can put them there, but is that where they belong? Knecht looks reasonable, but is 3" shorter than Leaky, 2" shorter than Puff.

4. Does anyone else worry about us getting shorter? Then again, 3 of the Final Four teams were pretty short so maybe that doesn't matter.

Lot of teams going with smaller 3s and 4s now days so they can spread the court with shooters, looks like Hubert is putting more premium on shooters than classic size fits to position and for sure shooting has to be addressed. I can for sure see some small ball coming.

I do think it is very important to get some front court size, if Jalen is the stretch 4 we think he is, if High can stretch as well then I want a broad shoulders physical guy that can play at the 4 or 5 and I miss our not really having a rim protecting shot blocker, hard to imagine we can get al that in just 1 guy, we will have to see.

Verbal Commits now lists 1200 players in the portal. That's an average of 3.3 from every D1 team. With more to come.

Is this the new normal?

Imagine having to plan for graduations, kids going pro, AND 3 or more transferring out.

On the one hand, if you have some players who aren't working out, that could be great for you and them. But that's a lot of juggling and uncertainty.

I bet Roy is happy to miss this new phase of basketball. His recruiting style really wouldn't fit very well.
