OOTB Carolina Basketball Discussion Thread

If I had a Carolina blue plaid blazer, I'd rock it every single day.
The black and blue isn't bad, but these have to go.

Would Roy really do that though? It doesn't seem like something he would do.

I mean haven't certain people given up scholarships in the past to sign other players?

Who leaves after this year? JB, Theo, maybe Jalek or Cam.

We have Coby and Rechon on board and we're looking to sign 2 more for 2018. This doesn't make any sense if that's still the goal.

Maybe, I can't think of any though. I know Luke has said that he would give his up. The question is would Roy let him do that? I just don't see Roy doing that unless Luke actually refuses to sign the paperwork.

Why is everyone on radar saying that Cam might leave early? There is no reason to think that is a real possibility. Unless he just blows up this year (which seems unlikely) or decides he want to play in Europe I'm not understanding that thinking.

Doesn't make sense to me either. Makes me wonder if Roy has changed his mind or if he just doesn't feel good about bringing two in for 2018.

I agree with all of that. I think it's comical that people are thinking Cam is going to leave after this year to go pro. Don't get me wrong, I'm super happy he joined the team but I think some Radarians are putting unrealistic expectations on the kid. They all keep saying he's the perfect Justin Jackson replacement. Ha. From what I saw last year, Cam is not anywhere near Jackson's level. He's a shooter. A good one but that's about it. I think Roy can develop him a little bit and he may get a chance at playing professionally one day. But many of our fans are being unreasonable (no surprise).

The recruiting for 2018 is certainly odd. I'm on record as saying I think a transfer is far more likely to happen than anyone leaving early for the NBA next year. So maybe that happens and we open up one more. Then if Shae or Luke gives theirs back we could take two more in 2018. I don't know. I know I'd love to have Nassir Little and then that Days kid seems like a good get to fill the stretch 4 role.

Guess Roy isn't feeling too optimistic about recruiting or he has told him he won't have it for long.
If we have an extra one for this year why not use it instead of letting the ncaa see that we don't need our full allotment... I'm sure there was some discussion about the last 2 years between the sides

I don't have a problem with him getting it this year, but it's going to be a wasted scholarship next year unless Roy doesn't give it to him. Roy just seems like the type of person who wouldn't take someone off a scholarship once they got it. Guess we'll see.

That's the part I would assume was if we need it back for next year or 2019 would u be okay with that?? Just my opinion but I would venture that the staff thought of that and discussed it with the Rush family

I could see him leaving to play in Europe if it becomes clear the NBA isn't in his future. He already has a degree and may even get 1 year grad degree depending on what program he's in.

And that's par for the course with Radar. According to them, when he's at Pitt - Kanler Coker is better than him, but when he's at UNC - he's 1st team All-ACC, should be lotto pick.

@tarheel0910 and others, re: the scholarship thing:

If memory serves correctly, Wes Miller was offered a scholarship for one year when he transferred here from James Madison (?) with the understanding that he would potentially have to give it up in the following seasons. So it's not unheard of for Roy to do.

Did he take it away though? I'm sure Roy has told players they might have to give it up. Not trying to debate that. I'm wondering if Roy has actually taken it back in the past.

He was. Are you guys still recruiting Zion?

Was there ever any doubt that Bagley was going to qualify? I mean, duke "helped" him through the reclassifying process. K wasn't going to waste that effort.

As for Zion, I guess Roy is probably still in touch. But we have no shot with him and personally, I'm perfectly fine with that. He seems like the same kind of player as Michael Beasley was in college - prolific numbers but barely moves the needle for whatever team he plays for.

No there was no doubt. Regarding Zion I wasn't sure, I noticed he was mentioned on THR so figured I'd ask. He's a freak athlete but I think he is getting overhyped quite a bit.
