OOTB Carolina Basketball Discussion Thread

So do you watch the one at the Dean Dome or the one at Hansbrough Indoor Stadium?
Oh, the Dome for sure. I refuse to watch any dook game played in the rats nest*.

*full disclosure: I will record our game at H.I.S. and watch if we win; delete if we lose. Hey, you wouldn't waste 2 hours watching a movie with actors you despise, would you?

Roy wants to beat State more than anyone. I believe that completely.

There have been some unlikable Dukies recently. I didn't care for Tyus Jones or Winslow (though mainly just because of the kick so outside of that loved his game tbh). Jones I have no problem disliking as we was a floppy little twat. Outside of Allen, who may have his crap together this year outside of the theatrics, this Duke team doesn't really have anyone who is easy to dislike though.

I find there are more things about the culture in general that I find odd or dislike, from ballboys sprinting like crazy to the locker room, to guys whispering in each others ear all excitedly, to questionably dirty plays in the rivalry always being delivered by just their team, to the fans worshiping their coach like a god, and to that coach berating and cursing at officials constantly even after they get a call. I'm also a UNC fan so this all seems natural. There are probably things about the UNC culture Duke fans don't care for either.

I'm not sure how any fan of Duke or UNC can not watch the game...

Also MSU destroyed Notre Dame tonight.

Also MSU destroyed Notre Dame tonight.

Case and point: last year I was hanging out with some good friends of mine at a bar which had a million TVs in it. It was the one where we won in Chapel Hill. Try as I might, I could not keep my eyes away from the screen. It hurt my neck to twist around like that, but it was worth it. I was so nervous I couldn’t even eat.

Yeah, I can't miss a game either. I generally watch it alone now though. I used to watch it with a group of guys (three Duke fans, one UNC grad, and some UT fans), usually at Hooters.

Head to head though...

Okay, here are the head to head numbers since Roy got to UNC

National Titles:

Roy - 3
K - 2

ACC Regular Season Titles:

Roy - 8
K - 3

ACC Tournament Titles:

Roy - 3
K - 6

Roy wins 2 out of the 3 big categories, and if you combine ACC Reg / Tourney titles:

Roy 11
K 9

Man Dook got y’all all kinds of messed up. Of course I’d love Roy to beat them more. But in the grand scheme of things who cares?!? UNC basketball is doing just fine. Check the stats outside of head to head for once. Geez.

Ridiculous statement. Lay off the booze if that’s all you have. But I wouldn’t expect anything less from a football only.

Roy is 12-18 against Duke as head coach of Carolina (40% winning percentage).

Fedora is 2-4 against Duke as head coach of Carolina (33% winning percentage)

As rough as it has seemed head to head against Duke recently, we're more likely to beat them in basketball than in football.

Nice stats! Wouldn’t have ever looked at like that.

Also - Roy is 27-3 against NCSU as head coach of Carolina (90% winning percentage)

Fedora is 3-3 against NCSU as head coach of Carolina (50% winning percentage)

So we're much more likely to beat Moo on the hardwood as well, although that might not be as surprising.

No trolling about it. K owns Roy head to head.

If a 60%-40% win disparity is owning, what's the 67%-33% win disparity that Cutcliffe has over Fedora?

Overall, Roy is bad.

I know you can't type that with a straight face while simultaneously defending Fedora's job. Look - I'm not any happier with the recent suckage against Duke in basketball than you or anyone else is - but if there's one coach in a "revenue" sport that needs to be shown the door due to his lack of success against rivals, it certainly isn't Roy.

Overall, Roy is bad. He's won more championships than Dean! But when he goes head to head against K, especially since 2010, K whips him. I already won this argument with @gunslingerdick. I'm not gonna rehash it.

All you harp about is Kay owning Roy. That’s all you care about. Which is ridiculous. Kay winning 60% of his games vs Roy is hardly being someones daddy as you so eloquently put it. You’re lame attempt at a joke was just.. lame.

Overall Roy is bad? Stick to football bruh Bc you clearly don’t know shit about basketball.

Ohhhhh shit guys. Lol see my edits above. I'm on my phone and autocorrect fukked me so hard.

I meant tooph turned into a grump. And Roy is bae. Sorry for the confusion.

Roy is the best basketball coach in our history. He just can't beat Coach K head to head. Is what it is.

Also, @Hark_The_Sound_2010 I'm very awayre Fedora barely beats our two rivals. Never was I arguing that, so it's irrelevant to this conversation.

When comparing Roy with K, the overall success of the teams is all that matters. As I stated above, Roy holds the edge in 2 of 3 even with Duke being an OAD factory. Imagine what will happen when they will be forced to learn how to actually develop players again.

It would be nice to beat duke more often. Other than that, there’s not much to complain about.
Exactly. But to me, they can exist exclusive of one another. I LOVE how Roy has us playing come tourney time. Wouldn't trade that away at all. But damnit, I wish he would beat our biggest basketball rival more :(

If we beat them one time this year I think it would be a miracle. Maybe not a miracle but one of Roy’s best wins against them. I’m preparing for two losses.

I don't think you've ever won an argument against me...or anyone else for that matter.

Plus, your logic is flawed. You keep harping on the head-to-head between K and Roy and using that to proclaim that duke "owns" us, but you apparently do not acknowledge Dean's "ownage" over duke. Because if you did and used the same logic, then there is no way to declare Roy better than Dean.

Plus, you should be kicked in the nuts by every other Tar Heel fan in America for saying Roy is better than Dean. Even if it were true (which it's not) and even if Roy won 5 more championships, it is sacrilege to say such. Only an uninformed, myopic millennial that thinks time began when they were born would tread those waters.

Condolences on your early on-set memory loss.

CBB is a sport, not a humanitarian award contest. It's great all the stuff for basketball and society Dean did. But just looking at basketball, who has won more national championships? Roy.

Dean did better against Duke. Roy did/does better when it comes to winning nattys. The end.

Agreed. I mean, is it better if you can have success while simultaneously being an angel and "helping young men grow" and all that feel-good stuff? Sure. But if I have to pick between success or character development... I'm going with my boy Al Davis:

I agree for the most part. But at the same time none of us here would want a situation like Bob Huggins at Cincinnati back in the early 00s where every other day one of his players was getting arrested for something. Winning is the ultimate goal, but I thank heavens Roy is a good man and really goes out of his way to care for his players.
