1 - That was a hell of a game. We played well and IMO, we were the better team through 40 minutes. They got the whistle and we didn’t. It happens. But anyone that watched that game knows we’re a very good team that is capable of beating anyone. Not at all discouraged by this loss. Team showed a lot of grit. I love the experience of our core guys.
2 - I agree that Bradley would make us contenders and it’s a real shame he’s not around. But I disagree that “our recruiting is catching up with us. I think Roy really likes the state of our program and the system he’s built through supposed “down recruiting” years. While other programs have adapted to the OAD era, so has Carolina, but in the completely opposite direction. Most blue bloods have tweaked things to make their programs conducive to the OAD culture, while Carolina has shifted more towards long term player development. You can argue that the shift was born out of necessity, and I’d mostly agree. But regardless, I think Roy likes it, especially now that it’s shown to be kind of the kryptonite to freshman laden teams.
I’m not saying that Roy isn’t recruiting top 10 guys. I’m sure he is...with all his might. And we’ll sign one of those guys every now and then and I reckon we’ll have another OAD soon enough. Sheer numbers would suggest that. I’m just saying I believe Roy is perfectly content with the consolation of having to sign slightly lower ranked guys that will stick around for 3-4 years and be total program guys. And until I see multiple underperforming years, I’ll trust the process.
