OOTB Carolina Basketball Discussion Thread

Maybe it’s time for Roy to consider next season, cut back a few minutes from the upperclassmen so the youngsters get a little more run. I know we have some top rectuits coming in next year, but having sophs with more game experience would be a bonus.

I don't think it matters. There's not much of "us" to come back to.

We just lack the talent that we usually have. It's really starting to show. It's going to be a very tough season. We might make the NCAA, but it will be a low seed.
I wonder if certain people will finally admit that the lack of top ranked big men has hurt us a lot.

I think was apparent before the season started. Then people were encouraged by some good games early. Now teams are adjusting and basically ignoring the post and we don’t have the type of guards to exploit that.

I’m starting to heavily fall on the side of those who think Felton needs more time and Berry less. I think Joel is extremely beat up right now and it is only getting worse since Roy won’t play Felton more even when he plays well.

But yes, the single biggest issue is we can’t shoot right now, which is really our only strength (or should be).

Can't do that. JB and Theo deserve better than that.

Of course it was apparent, but you know that there is a certain group that tries to say Roy doesn't need talent to win and all our freshman were ranked too low.

Oh, I know. Everyone needs talent to win. This team has some talent at other spots but that talent is underperforming right now. Earlier in the year they weren't. I'm not sure if Cam has screwed things up or not (not really his fault if so) but they have looked really average lately.

Normally dook losing would bring warmth to my heart, but us losing to a vastly inferior team on our own court really took the wind out of my sails. This team needs to step it up quick.

Exactly . .

dOOk losing to a better team does nothing for me, especially, when we lose to team that we should beat on our home court.

I really expected more from this team. With our big 3 we should have leadership to win some of these games we are losing. I hate to say it, but Roy burying Felton will not help recruiting. We need someone to be a superstar here and on the next level. I know Felton isn't the next coming, but he was know on the recruiting trail. Again, we should be up 3 games right now.

I read an article yesterday that had Roy stating he doesn't "punish" teams with hard practises anymore. The 05 team would be puking on the court after Wofford. He instead reviews films with a loud voice. No way someone like berry should have the legs to get early shots up each game. It simply appears our team is not ready for these games. Something just seems to be off. Maybe Bradley say this coming after last year and left while he could.

As I've been saying, constantly, if we had landed a top ranked big guy we probably wouldn't be in the position we are now. Luke can't chuck up 20+ shots a night. And even though he's really good, he ain't scoring 31 every game.

Recruiting people. I know I mention it constantly, but in college sports it's a constant, and now we are seeing the consequences of it. I'm glad we have a solid class for 2018, but if Roy can't consistently haul in top classes year after year, well then games like these will become the norm.

I think @heelmanwilm nailed it a couple of weeks ago when he said we were a pretty average team and would probably finish about .500 in the ACC.

I’m thinking the whole “going small” experiment may have been a mistake. Roy’s teams have always played inside out and we started the season that way. Even though the freshmen bigs haven’t lit it up, I think they were playing better then than they are now.

Dammit, I don’t know what the answer is, but if we don’t do something fast, we may not make the tourney.

And after playing in the past 2 National Championship Games and bringing Home the Title last year plus losing 5/8ths of that team I am okay with having a subpar year in our standards.....My expectations weren’t that big in the preseason so games like today when the other team plays an almost perfect game and beats us in OT doesn’t bother me that much this year

The problem is, our bigs can’t even handle the most basic entry passes. Ruins the whole inside-out dynamic.

Yep... make no mistake, NCSU played a lights-out game. Shooting 50% from 3 is hard to beat. Especially when they shot 30 times!

still have to make the tournament, though...this isn’t 2010.

i still believe they are in, but not getting in would be a bigger story than 2010...this team can score, that one plain sucked.

You'd think that someone on the coaching staff would point this Achilles heel out to Roy.

It is a problem. Contrary to what most people think it usually isn't either, not as bad as most think. Usually UNC's 3 pt D is actually pretty strong according to the numbers. Not this year. The way this particular team helps has to change. Today was probably as bad as I've ever seen it but it has been bad all year. The team seems to realize it as well. They just suck at improving.

Berry looked fatigued yesterday. I wonder if he was still sick (Andrew Jones mentioned that about half the team was sick on Monday)

Anyways, I'm not hitting the panic button yet.
