OOTB Carolina Basketball Discussion Thread

@nctransplant is corporal punishment allowed in your county / area? Not trying to be funny, seriously asking. My best friend's wife teaches in extremely rural South Georgia and the county allows corporal punishment in schools.

Not out here. It was when I was in Wayne Co. NC. Believe it or not we have a place called "The Box". It's like a big closet we put kids in when they piss us off.

How do you figure? Hypothetically say Jalek was the chemistry issue: he never played. Removing him fully from the team isn't much different than the minutes he was already getting.
IF, he was a chemistry issue it is a mental thing more than anything. I have kicked kids off teams before and it made huge differences in how we played for this reason.

My only question is how do you guys know all this crap about your school? College is such a blur to me. All I know is that I got my degree and got a job, so now I don't give a shit.

I earned credit from 6 different schools and pieced my degree together. So I have an excuse not to know everything about UNCG, Greensboro College, Longwood, ODU, and at least two community colleges. And I agree with your sentiment. I just needed a degree so I could get on with life. Now, with that said, everything I do now in my job, I could have done without going to school. But I would have never been given the chance without the degree. I've said many times that the curriculum is the least of what I learned in college. But I did learn some valuable lessons - how to learn, cooperative learning, time management, and independent living among others.

Even though it took me 6.5 years to get through school, it is a blur to me as well. I think that's why it took me 6.5 years to get through school.

So what are we going to do about PG next year with Felton gone? I'm assuming Seventh starts, but other than the great white hope that is Platek who else do we have? I know we have Coby coming in, but people seem to think he isn't a true PG.

That's pretty much it. Seventh will start and it's basically by committee after that. The main problem is I wouldn't say Seventh is a true PG either. So we'll be short on bigs and PGs, the two most critical pieces in Roy's system. Should be fun.

I think the bigs will be better. And we will have five in Maye, Manley, Huffman, Brooks and Miller.

Coby isn't a pure PG. But neither was Marcus...or Joel. Coby is a shot-maker but he does have good vision from what I've seen and read. We could survive a year or two with a two-headed monster of Woods and White running the show. I'd feel ok with that. But if Jalek is really done at UNC like some are suggesting, I would be hopeful that Roy would pursue a 2018 PG.

Don't we have one coming? Francis?

Who's left for 2018 that could give us meaningful minutes? I know we have Francis coming in for 2019, so maybe we just suck it up and roll with Seventh and Coby.

True, but I don't know if they'll be good enough. I'm hoping they'll improve enough to where at least it isn't as much of a black hole as it is this year. I'm hoping Manley gets to work in the offseason and becomes the guy.

I like Manley. Physically he just doesn't have it yet(strength, stamina). I'm really pulling for Huffman but realistically I'm not sure. If Miller really works he could become Luke 2.0. Brooks just doesn't do it for me.

It doesn't look like we have been recruiting him. I would think our chances would be slim at best.

Agreed. But circumstances change things. "Hey Jahvon, wanna come to Carolina where next year's PG spot is wide open and play with a couple other really good freshman?"

I realize we'd be getting in late. But what can hurt to try?

Why do people think Miller could be a good player? Serious question, I haven't seen much from him yet.

Coby isn't a natural point guard, but Joel isn't either. And while Joel is good defensively and with taking care of the ball, we have to acknowledge the big drop off he's had in scoring efficiency. I hope he turns it around but he hasn't lived up to the AA hype yet.

Beat Clemson!

I'm not trying to say to not go after him, just seems like a long shot. With Francis coming it might be better to save the scholarship for another player in a different class.

I have no clue. I've heard he could shoot. Not many thought Maye could become what he has become either.

lol Maye is gonna be our go-to defense for lower rated players for years.

"So-and-so's a walk on, and he's only got one arm!"
"Yeah but who would've thought Luke Maye would be that good?!!"
The Luke thing is so overblown. It's a good story, but people tend to forget that he was ranked in the top 100 and had other P5 offers. Plus he was already going to get a scholarship starting his sophomore year. But by all means, let's compare him to someone who is ranked 1,256.

That makes him the best basketball player in Nebraska, so there's a chance.

He's so much different than Maye anyway. He's a couple inches taller but waaaayyy lankier. Also the difference in coordination is like night and day. Luke is not super quick or fast but he makes very smart, efficient, and controlled movements. Walker looks awkward moving around to be honest. Doesn't mean he can't ever play, but if he were to develop successfully I think he'd be a different player than Luke.
