OOTB Carolina Basketball Discussion Thread

I was overserved that night and feeling cantankerous, for that I apologize to you. TBS, you and I just don't agree on much. Much as THN11 and I don't agree on much. He thinks I'm crazy, the feeling's mutual. And that's okay. I'm perfectly content with that. I hope he keeps me on ignore. I only read his tripe to be amused.

All good Arch. Go Heels, we can agree on that.

I think that you get off on evaluating other Heel fans' level of fandom and you get pleasure from thinking/telling them that either they're bad fans or calling them Duke fans or that you're a "better" fan than them. All of which is a ridiculous notion.

Am i the only one that’s worried about how unc’s achilles heel both this season and in prior tourneys has ALWAYS been hot 3 shooting teams and that we are literally the worst 3 pt shooting defensive team in the nation?

I'm not too worried about it. Our defense always seems to get better starting the end of February. I read a stat earlier showing that our 3 point defense has improved by a decent amount over the past few weeks, so it seems like the trend is continuing.

NO WHY WOULD I BE THINKING ABOUT THAT IT IS NOT LIKE IT KEEPS ME UP AT NIGHT GOD WHY EVEN BRING THAT UP.

yes, I think about it constantly.

Y'all know I'm not a bash the refs type guy, but UNCG was playing 8 vs 5 at the end there. Most egregious was the refs awarded Gonzaga the newly emphasized "freedom of movement" foul when they drove to the basket with like a minute left. Greensboro drove on the very next possession and the same type of contact occurred... no call.

But it all evens out because Greensboro made some circus shots in the final 7 or so minutes of the game to close the gap.

I've been saying this for two years to my dad. His next move (Which should occur in this off-season) and how he does at said move will play a big role. I like that he emphasizes defense.
What he’s done at Greensboro can’t be ignored. This year or next he’ll get a gig at a P5 school. What he does with that will tell us a lot. I DO know Hasse was the heir apparent in Roy’s eyes for a long time (maybe still is). I also know Bubba won’t be steered by Roy as was Dickie by Dean. That’s not to say Bubba won’t take his input.

Wes struggled 4 of his first 5 years in Greensboro, but the past two he's won or shared their regular season championship, with a tournament win this year. His boys hung right in there against last year's runner up, coached by a future hall of famer that was last year's National Coach of the Year. Will be interesting to see where they go next year.

Very important. Coaches need to coach and let ADs make hiring decisions. Of course Bubba will listen to input, but it's ultimately his call. And it's a HUGE call. It will be crucial for the future of Carolina Basketball that he gets it right. I'm just worried Bubba will no longer be here when it's finally time to make that hiring decision.

I do hope Roy is able to coach for several more years because I want him to guide us through the drastic changes to the CBB landscape that are undoubtedly coming OAD will probably disappear, and it may also turn into a situation where the nation's top talent all skip college and choose to go to the G-League if the NBA can develop it more, or develop its much talked about academy.

I want Roy to guide us until the dust settles on all the changes. That way, our AD can evaluate what traits in a coach are important in the new landscape. It would suck to have to hire a basketball coach right now with so much impending change on the horizon.

Yeah, I saw an interview where he said he was trying to hard to be just like Roy those first few years, but then he changed his coaching philosophy the last couple years to be more of what works for him, while still remembering what he learned from Roy.

Man, when they had the ball up 2 with about 90 seconds to go, I thought they might do it. But that botched alley-oop killed them

Unfortunately for UNCG, Wes needs to bail now. Alonso is a seinor and I think Troy and Kuiper as well. He will have a depleted roster next year.

According to ESPN Alonso is a junior, the seniors are Smith (2nd leading scorer, 2nd leading rebounder), Jordan (lowest scorer with more than 1 game), Collins (2 PPG), and Kuiper (6th scorer, 3rd rebounder). So he should return his leading scorer along with 3 others in the top 5 and his leading rebounder. I don't think it will be super depleted.

If Bubba stays long enough, he has the opportunity to go down as the best AD in UNC history or the worst. Roy, Fox, Hatchell and Dorrance will probably all be gone within the next 10-15 years if not sooner. Those are 4 hall of fame coaches that will need to be replaced.
