OOTB Carolina Basketball Discussion Thread

One thing I noticed that was a little insulting; A lot of fans I saw were wearing their "Beat South Carolina" buttons and had taped "North" over the South. You can't even invest in a real button? You deserve to lose!

We are fortunate to have Coach Rob be able to step in and lead the team in times like this. He started working with Roy at Kansas in ‘88, and has been with him at UNC for 16 years. It’s easy to under-appreciate that sometimes but having a guy that’s been a D1 HC and has worked with Roy for so long is a huge asset.

I didn't know he was with him at Kansas. I first remember Robinson as the HC at FSU.

I went to church the other night and saw at notorious state fan wearing a shirt that simply said, "Make Roy Sad"

I was thinking the only thing they could do to make him sad is leave the conference. He rather enjoys what he does to them.

Dude told me it was wishful thinking, LOL

Yep. He’s been with Roy for 24 of the 31 years that Roy has been HC. He got a couple HC gigs but then came back to Kansas after he was fired from FSU.

At the start of the post game pc, Roy was getting a little emotional talking about Coach Rob being like a brother to him.

I wasn't sure what Kenny was doing at the very end, either.

He must’ve thought there was not enough time left for Clemson to do anything
Turns out that Kenny did the right thing. If you rewatch that final sequence, the clock stopped at 4.6* for about two seconds; that hail mary shot at ~0.2 seconds wouldn’t have counted anyway if it had gone in.

*I can only assume that the timekeeper thought a foul was going to be called?

Are you cereal? Somebody should be relieved of their timekeeper duties for a gaffe like that.

Watching Arizona state vs Oregon state, and Bobby Hurley just got T’d up for what looked like the equivalent of k being nice to a ref (I know... lol). It truly is amazing at how the rat is allowed to berate refs non-stop without consequences.

It’s also amazing how much gray hair the 47 year old Hurley has.

He doesn't have the good dark-haired genes of his mentor.

Or maybe he doesn’t have this...

Fantastic!

This would be so funny to see for real.
eh, I disagree.

This would deeply disappoint me if classy Roy, totally comfortable in his own skin (and hair color) - stooped to the level of image-obsessed narcissist Rat, and felt like he had to goop up his hair to seem young. Roy doesn't mind often saying he is a thousand years old or older than dirt or any other self-deprecating comment.

I know its all in fun, and not to take it too seriously, but even hair color (with both men way older than 60) gives you a clue as to both of their approaches regarding their image in others' eyes.

Are you implying that Coach K is coloring his hair??? Next thing you're going to tell me is Bill Self is wearing a rug.

It’s all in fun Heel. I really wouldn’t want to see Roy do that. But the thought of it is hilarious.

and keep in mind, we’ve seen really good carolina teams lose there and really good teams lose there.

i’m encouraged about this climb, though.

We’re going in dry
That would be my guess. Zion is out and several other players are banged up. I'm for resting guys for the tournament and taking the loss. The thought of getting swept by UNC makes me want to puke but at this point I'm thinking long term. Injuries suck ass.

Joey Baker with the DNP tonight. Solid for his development.
Yeah I'm not a fan of him not getting at least some time. I've been less upset about burning his red shirt after I found out he told K he wants to play because he won't be at Duke for 5 years.

Saturday is going to be a slaughter, I am not looking forward to it.
Your avatar has had a ton of great development time this year (TOTALS in 4 games: 11 mins, 0 points, 0 assists, 4 fouls, 1 TO, 2 rebounds.... DNP coaches decision tonight)

...to step up and use that vast experience, growth, and development to lead his team on Saturday.

Seriously - why did he not play tonight? Has K given up on him? Aren't you guys tired, exhausted, and needing help off the bench?

I'll ask K, brb.

Y'all should be golden - you've only got one 5 star injured, right?

And your roster and starting lineup has plenty of 4 and 5 stars remaining and healthy. More than any other school, way more than the Heels, its not even close.

We start a near walkon and a couple of college transfers. I don't see how we should be any match for the lopsided talent, coaching, and team basketball that you have over us. Here's to a good injury free game.

No kidding...

I listened to K's post-game PC tonight. To hear him talk, they're battling as if they're the Cinderella's of the NCAA. They "don't have a full deck." Sheezus, dude. He's loaded with Mc'D AA's at every position! He's the one that stacks his own deck with all freshman wonderboys. And, then when the greatest basketball player in the history of the world (he's already given Zion the NPOY award) gets a paper-cut, suddenly, all of his other lottery picks are shit, and he's a wizard to be able to get them to win a game.

This myth that Luke Maye was a near walk on should go away, he had offers from Virginia and Notre Dame without doing a deep dive. He is a bad matchup for us without Zion, period. Just because ESPN decides to talk about how great these freshmen are doesn't make it a reality. Zion is a freak, he masked a lot of deficiencies. Barrett is legit but can't shoot outside of 15 feet. Reddish has played like a top 5 draft pick in about 2 games this season and Tre Jones is a great college point guard that couldn't beat Stevie Wonder at a game of horse.

As far as UNC goes you have 2 lottery picks on your roster that actually show up and play, let's not act like UNC is playing with scrubs because they aren't.
