OOTB Carolina Basketball Discussion Thread

ot:

you boys like watching ja morant play?...dude is incredible, glad they’re in the tournament.
Love watching him play - and he may be the best suited player coming out to succeed in the NBA including the Duke kids.

I don’t know where Murray State will be seeded but I sure don’t want them in UNC’s region. That guy scares me. Has the ability to get 40 in a game if needed.

I was impressed with his effort defensively also. He was in someone’s grill on every possession. I want him to go and save my Knicks.

Does K have enough time left in his career to throttle back from OAD's and build a team like he use to? Is it even possible to do that now? He would need a minimal of 3-4 years to experience a true senior night, and see great success from it. I always remember the comments about him winning with lesser talent. I kinda miss hating those players. I never thought JJ would leave.

OAD will be gone in a few years, so he's going to be forced to adjust if he sticks around for another 5 years.

Vlad will never retire. As long as he doesn’t step out into the sunlight, he’ll be around forever. Amirite, @nctransplant ?

Is that two classic THR threads in the span of like 2 weeks?

FTH and Gary feeling the OOTB wrath.

Gary seems to be feeling the wrath of everyone. It looks like only a few of the OOTB regulars have posted in that duke thread (although I'm sure we will take all the heat). I thought about weighing in and mentioning that I coached a few years of youth league basketball, but I've pretty much stayed out of the Coby debate so far. I probably won't chime in at this point.

It annoys me that he thinks he's the only person on THR that knows basketball. Obviously, a lot of THR are morons but come on dude, there are some knowledgable people out there.

Also, how does he not absolutely cringe when he types shit like that. I've wanted to at times be like "hey Gary, I know the game also. Google my last name and see how many D1 players show up" but I literally feel gross typing it. It's a message board, no one cares and no one wants to hear him flex his ego.

I said it in the post, I really wish I could be that blissfully delusional. Life must be so fun.

I think Gary knows that he has a big ego, but he just doesn't care. That's what happens when you hang around nothing but like minded people (the coaching mafia) and have a few posters who agree with you on every single thing. It allows him to think it's ok. He's almost like Trump in that way. He doesn't really bother me much anymore because of that.

Google my last name and see how many D1 players show up
I googled "last name 13 NCAA basketball player and got 217 million results.

Exactly. Gary probably doesn't even have 200 million.

Re him knowing he's delusional....how does he not admit he's wrong when I quote him saying "no way in hell is Coby OAD".. Like, we proved you were incredibly wrong yet he still goes "I stand by my assessment of him as a player".

The blown mic drop comment had me literally laughing out loud which rarely happens on a message board.

I don't think him not admitting he was wrong makes him delusional. He knows he was wrong, but he can't admit defeat. That's just an ego hit for him. The more I think about it, the more I think the comparison to Trump is perfect. He's a message board version of Trump.

I wish people would stop saying that no one will admit they were wrong about Luke. People have admitted that probably a hundred times over the past couple of years. What I would like to see is those same people who keep saying they were right about Luke admit that they were wrong about Shea Rush and other walk-ons that never came close to being big contributors. Those are the people who can't admit anything.

Luke Maye is the exc...

Seriously. These guys think every walk on we bring on is going to be a contributor. I remember asking Dave how many Pacific games he watched after he said Kenny Smith Jr was going to be "real valuable" to us. These guys have no idea. They see the kid chooses UNC and suddenly he's Kenny Smith Sr. There's a reason they are walk ons.

The reason I mention Shea Rush is because I specifically remember one poster saying they heard from a source that Shea was getting rave reviews from the players and that he would be a big contributor before he left. Why can't those type of posters just admit that they were wrong or their source isn't that good? Like Mike said, it takes a big man to admit when he was wrong. I have more respect for someone who can admit that. I try to do the same thing when I'm wrong.

That is highly annoying. It's like that board simply wants to call everything out that doesn't walk the line. Every thread turns into a posting match. (Oh wait, so does OOTB) I guess I found the issue

He's a message board version of Trump.

LOL - I agree....without me stating my personal assessment of Trump....no doubt DJT is the ultimate blowhard, know-nothing (example: DJTsaying recently "computers fly jet airliners these days" (true) - and "they are too complex to fly and need engineering geniuses to fly them" - LOL wut?!

DJT can never admit he is wrong, even when proven 100% factually wrong, just deflects and name- calls.

But knowing just a bit about Gary's (left of center, NTTAWWT) politics on some non-basketball divergent posts from him - someone should tell him he is the message board version of DJT and wait for the response.

I'll bring the popcorn. ;)

I bet they're real "scrappy" and "gym rats" though.
Just for the record - I should've put both "scrappy" and "gym rat" on the most annoying phrases thread (even though in the last week I heard Roy call Luke a gym rat).

I can't get past the connotation of the "gym rat" term as hidden code for a mediocre talent guy who spends an inordinate amount of time to move himself from mediocre to slightly above average.

But that is my problem, not Luke's or Roy's

I agree that's what is usually meant but why is that a negative thing? I have far more appreciation for guys like that than I do guys who don't have to work as hard because of their talent level. I might go as far as to say, being called that (with that connotation in mind), is the biggest compliment that a coach can pay a player.
