I figured as much at the end of last season. He's just that guy that makes it happen. If we’re to win the title this year, it will be because Davis has leveled up to being the best player on our team.

I've been saying all off-season that this was going to be the reason we need to hit the breaks on title talk. We might be able to plug that hole eventually, but it will probably take a couple of months to do it.However, there’s no doubt we’re going to miss Manek. You just can’t substitute his shooting.
His hair was easily the worst thing that happened last night.Bacot’s hair was worse than Styles’ play
I think Manek was a HUGE part of the title run on that team.I've been saying all off-season that this was going to be the reason we need to hit the breaks on title talk. We might be able to plug that hole eventually, but it will probably take a couple of months to do it.

After the 1st I honestly though that all the opposing teams scouts worked harder in the off season than the team as a whole. Then I wondered if Bacots golden brillo pad hair was wound to tight. They turned it on in the 2nd half. I'm glad HD slowed the rotating door rotations down and played more sets.this team will be fine…i do feel like the roster is super talented top to bottom and if hubert figures out the rotation, it’s a title team.
trimble is going to be a problem.
I didn't see the game but after the first game, I was going to also opine that Nance was going to be more of an inside guy, and that there he might be nothing less than stellar. On the other hand, he might just be building confidence in his threes. Like you or somebody said though, Manek was one of a kind with the threes.Nance isn’t Manek and shouldn’t be used the same way. He can be effective in his own way, closer to the basket.
I feel like the basketball team's defense is definitely better than football, but there's no way they should be ranked #13 in the CFP. Beau is no Drake.#13 in the new CFP.

some guys are going to have to play both ways where they are only used to playing one. Could be a long game ahead for us.I feel like the basketball team's defense is definitely better than football, but there's no way they should be ranked #13 in the CFP. Beau is no Drake.
Honestly. Based on last year's overall performance, up to dook, it was rough. Year 2 with a deeper team, minus Manek should be better against what we have faced so far. We are heavy junior and senior this year. Last year ki da reminded me of late nineties dook teams firing a million 3s each game. Even manek took a while to get going last year. We will most likely drop in rankings if performance doesn't pick up.Looks like Brady Manek was the x factor.
The team looks like they are going through the motions on their redemption tour because they are predestined for a return to the FF where they will turn it on and win. But this team isn't good enough for that and only they think so.
Bacot, more than anyone is kind of pissing me off. He's the guy that should be leading by example and he looks disinterested. Slow and clunky. No umph to his game. Davis is thinking too much and not playing off instinct. Pete doesn't fit right yet and he's clogging the lane. Feels like Roy is behind this team.
No doubt that the loss of Manek is hurting but I do think the 3s will start falling. The rebounding on the other hand is a serious issue. We're getting beaten to balls and just seem to be out of position. Puff's return should help in that he's at least a gritty player that might spark some passion from a lifeless group. But he'll need to shoot the 3 a lot better than I've seen from him so far to make a real impact. Interested in seeing if Washington can help in this department.
JMU is who we play this weekend and they've been firing on all cylinders. We're primed for an upset, which frankly, may not be the worst thing.
Yeah but it’s early. I assume lots of HD tinkering and figuring out who to use - where at this point.Looks like Brady Manek was the x factor.
Yes, it's very early. It's a new team overall. But, nothing I've seen so far is very encouraging. If any of the 3 cupcakes had been top 20 level, I don't think they'd be undefeated. The veterans look disinterested. Bacot is really disappointing.Yeah but it’s early. I assume lots of HD tinkering and figuring out who to use - where at this point.
We HAVE to get something out of our bench eventually-soon
Think back on the Roy years and early in the season it was borderline like he was trying to lose- showing he didn’t care about Ws and Ls early in the season - he cared more about the process and figuring out roles and who could deliver what. Some real WTF player rotations and sub patterns - even right in the middle of getting our doors blown off in early season games.
I don’t see as much of that from HD. While not same as live game action that sort of stuff I’d rather he tinker and figure things out in practice/ scrimmages instead of during a tough early road game against a legit opponent
Kansas looks better than last year to me. They move great without the ball, something we don't do at all.Yes, it's very early. It's a new team overall. That Sports Illustrated cover facsimile is going to sting if things don't improve immensely. Things can always get better.
I watched the Kansas/dook game and... I don't think the dookies are going to miss a beat. They lost, but it was a slugfest. Those freshmen and Roach were fighting.
Colgate beats Syracuse in the Carrier Dome.
FSU is 0-3!
Louisville has lost 4 games in a row by 1 point???
The ACC isn't even a good basketball conference anymore. It's at best third, behind both Bigs. The SEC is probably right there with the ACC too.
Key word, overachieved. This isn't really something new though. It's been a three team conference for a while (UNC, dook, UVA).Lots of people said all that same kind of stuff last year and then the ACC overachieved in the tourney and had half the Final Four.
Certainly those three have been the teams that have had national relevance as far as being top dogs, but Hamilton has done a good job of getting Fla St in the conversation as being consistently good and Syr still makes noise at points. It's everyone else who are literally dragging ass.Key word, overachieved. This isn't really something new though. It's been a three team conference for a while (UNC, dook, UVA).
I mean you could also say "outperformed every other conference when it counted the most." Point is all the noise about the ACC being down was proven wrong in March.Key word, overachieved. This isn't really something new though. It's been a three team conference for a while (UNC, dook, UVA).
I don't think you can say it was proven wrong. You have to count the whole year. Pretty much every metric ranks us as the third best conference for the last few years.I mean you could also say "outperformed every other conference when it counted the most." Point is all the noise about the ACC being down was proven wrong in March.
You have to count the whole year if you're questioning the original statement.I don't have to count the whole year. I'm talking about the tournament. In March when it counted the most the ACC proved the naysayers wrong. Three out of five conference teams in the field made the Elite Eight, two the Final Four, and the Heels were a few minutes and one janky ankle away from a 'ship as an 8-seed.
