OOTB Carolina Basketball Discussion Thread

I disagree on both of those now. The college experience that was once a valuable thing exist no longer. And while at one time I would have agreed that any degree was better than no degree at all, I can't say that anymore. In fact, I've done a 180. I think the less time kids spend in college, the better. Today, if you're not getting a math based degree and keeping your head down, going to class and then getting as far away from campus as possible, then you'll be infected with inane woke academia sponsored bullshit. Best to keep as many kids away from that toxic environment as possible.
I agree with you about less people going to college, but we disagree somewhat on the reasoning. That's kinda getting into politics though, so no need to **** this thread up with that.

If they’re getting math based degrees, sure. But I suspect not. Keeping kids around longer to get them a worthless Liberal Arts and Humanities degree isn’t moving the needle.
completely false…and who’s needle are you judging?

fact is, if you’re student athlete and you graduate from your university, at minimum, you’re set in your state…is it mostly about relationships, sure…unless you’re a d-bag or a c u next tuesday, you’ve got it made.

If they give jobs to history majors, they'll give them to anyone.

That's awesome. I didn't realize they had something like that. Maybe add something like an exercise science or whatever those course are called. Something that could help if you wanted to go into the medical/trainer side of it. I hope our staffs are highlighting that as something that allows them to stay around what they love even if they don't make it pro or when they retire.

ETA: Just noticed there is an exercise science class listed as a recommendation if you want to go the grad route.

Expectations are going to be... not just high... but, the highest! I hope HD can deliver something similar to last season. That's sort of the rub, I guess. When you go to the NCAAT Championship game, beat the dookies in the FF, and send K off with a W (at CIS and the FF), you've got a gigantic order to fill the following season.

He has the horses, for sure.

easily the favorite…it’s going to be fun.

we’re going up next weekend for “the tour” with our 16 yr old and staying a couple of nights.

Unfortunately they will be too high. Easy to get knocked out of the NCAA tournament playing an average game against a bad match up or a team just plays out of their mind.

It's very difficult to get to the FF. I don't care how good your team is on paper, or their past record, or who is coming back, etc.. Lots of things have to fall into place at just the right time.

However, as I said, the Heels definitely have the personnel to get it done.

FIFY ;)

I think we may be getting ahead of ourselves regarding our goals for next season. Firstly, the primary goal is to beat dook as many times as we play them while qualifying as an eight seed or better for the NCAA. That will be a step forward from this past season. We'll figure out 'secondly' later.

my scarolina contact is actually on the new staff under paris, so i can’t get any info about this…however, this angle seems odd.

We’ll win with you and we’ll win without you.”

Just don’t leave the UNC staff in the lurch by backing out at the eleventh hour. If you’re going to change your mind, least show them that much courtesy so they can start replacing you in the ‘23 class.

GG and his family have completely botched this. It's a bad look for them. Even if he stays committed to us, I won't lie, I doubt I'll enjoy his time as much as I should because of this. If you ask a girl to Prom and she says yes but then you hear that she's entertaining other offers, do you still want to take her? Maybe just in hopes of getting laid but you've already ruled out the potential for any real kind of relationship. At this point, GG is a one-night stand and I don't see any way that can be changed now. With that in mind, I almost would prefer he doesn't come to Carolina.

At this point it is a win-win for me. Seems like a great players and I'd like to see him at UNC.. if he flips to South Carolina the melt down threads will be quality entertainment.

can you explain "Source also confirms @GamecockMBB has lined up a lucrative NIL package which UNC is unable to compete with. B/c state NIL law has been paused by the budget proviso, " from the twit you posted? I'm lost.

I know what a lucrative package is, so don't waste your time with that. It's the bolded part that has me in the dark.

It's that part that lost me in terms of legitimacy. There is no bball program that is above what Carolina can produce or "unable to compete with" and it is bs from a point of the school doing so unless it is improper stuff. I believe such things are banned by NCAA rules regardless of state law. Now, if they are lumping in something totally different like momma suddenly got a much better job and was able to make a home purchase at bargain pricing, that's a horse of a different color. But that's not NIL either.

It sounds to me like they are saying south carolina can help set something up and NC can't get involved with actively helping. That's what I took from it. I could be completely off, though.

This is my big issue with this one.

Listen, if GG thinks he's worked hard enough to improve enough to be a part of the 2023 draft and we don't have an open scholarship then fine, he doesn't come to UNC.

But he can't drag this out. There are some big time events that happened last weekend and coming up soon that if we need to start being serious about 2023 replacements then we need to know, now. He and his family's inability to make this decision directly hurts the future of our program.

That said, he seems like an immature 17 year old who likes this attention. Maybe the family has told HD they are staying (hell, HD certainly isn't acting like GG is decommitting). Maybe GG has said he's staying but the family doesn't want that (those seem to be the rumors).

Either way, I agree that this public indecision and public flirtation with other programs is real shitty.

not sure how updated the list is, but on3 has lists on nil valuations…rattler, the new qb at sc via oklahoma, has a $2m valuation.

i do know he’s got a local car dealership deal, a monthly deal with garnet trust, and a male grooming product deal.

i’m not at all comparing visibility and program awareness because carolina is carolina, but the rattler projections are pretty stupefying at scarolina.

May UNC needs to strike 1st and pull his offer. Set a standard that they aren't playing when it comes to commitments. Then maybe SC will reduce his NIL opportunity. It's literally the wild west and NIL is driving it

He posted that he decommitted yesterday. But pulling an offer would be a horrible idea. We'd be lucky to get a four star recruit, much less a five star.

ETA: NIL doesn't seem to be the main driver here. His mom wanting him at south carolina and the NBA collective bargaining agreement seem to be the main players.

I understand the decision, but think he’s making a huge mistake in thinking that moving up a class then playing at little Carolina will somehow help his NBA draft stock. NBA isn’t about getting there as quick as you can, it’s about getting that 2nd contract and being as prepared as possible to earn it.

My feeling on GG going forward will be how I feel toward Dukies and former Dukies. **** them and I hope they miss every shot they take.

Some reports leaned towards NIL deals UNc couldn't match. Also sounds like a head case mom. Will be interesting to see how HD reacts and overcomes this blow. He seems to have invested a ton of time in this recruitment, only to get screwed in the end

This team needs a talent injection in 23 but it was hard to get excited about a one-n-done anyway. Maybe he could he have been a Marvin Williams, but he could just as easily be a Nassir Little or Tony Bradley.

I find it hard to imagine that SC has some magic NIL tool that UNC freaking basketball doesn't. Armando is making a killing right now.

I'm sure they promised him a ton of shit, but maybe 20% of that will come to fruition. This was a get me to the NBA quickly and Mom wants me home decision.

Exactly. I feel certain there are a ton of other teams who have a hole in their lineup that GG would fill and they'd be able to go a long way in their conferences and the tourney. Hard to believe any of those situations wouldn't be better for GG in the long term because when he gets to the league, there are no nights off. It's grown men fighting for their careers and nothing is handed out. This was momma picking the school.

Bad look for him and the family. And he's clearly not a kid with a winning mentality. We'll be better off with a different player that will stay 2-4 years.

Zayden High has an offer. TJ Power got an offer. Look for a kid out of California named Isaiah Miranda to get an offer soon. All of them seem to be more of what Hubert is looking for anyway - good shooters able to stretch the floor.
