OOTB Carolina Basketball Discussion Thread

Thank goodness we have this board on which those who are knowledgeable, realistic, and who have a sense of humor can poast.

Good luck Tony... we hardly knew ya.
Welcome to my world. It used to be top 5 guys were surefire OAD, now it's like top 25. very frustrating and hard to build any kind of consistency unless you take less talent... bit of a tight rope walk.
I made a comment in the most recent TB thread. I think his decision will go down as a prime example of what NOT to do as a college player.
That thread is pure gold.

Good for Tony, and I'm glad we can finally say that Roy has had a OAD this decade. But I'm not sure the impact it will have, because he won't go in the lottery, and didn't start for us - 2 things potential OADs will be looking for.

That's true, however he could spin it by saying he took a guy that was going to be at least a two year player and turned him into a OAD first round pick.

As a fan, I am selfish I don't want to see these guys leave after one year. However, I hold no ill will or hatred as some fans do toward Tony for leaving, but I honestly will have no real memories of him a few years down the road. Conversely, guys like Kennedy Meeks will be memorable to me, as he worked to improve every year and contributed greatly toward a championship.

I'll be interested to see how Luke Maye does next year. I know we had a lot of fun with his success, but let's be honest, a lot of that was due to opponents not really planning for him and focusing on Meeks, Hicks and Bradley. Now, Maye will have everyone's attention, and they'll be focused on him down low now that everyone is gone.

It sucks but you might as well get used to it, if Felton is as good as gary says (best pg in the class) he will likely be gone after next season. I have no clue, never seen him play, but nowadays if a kid gets a whiff of the NBA they go running. You almost have to target kids that are really good but have bad measurables or aren't athletic freaks and hope they pan out (Berry, Meeks, etc.), but that is easier said than done. UNC has benefited a lot over the past few years because their 4 and 5 star talent has stuck around, most other schools haven't been so lucky and it earned you guys back to back championship games and a title.

As far as how you remember him, I can understand that because Tony didn't play all that much but for me I'm going to remember Tyus Jones for a very long time (another player that we thought would be around 2-3 years at least). Austin Rivers not so much... except maybe one game in particular.

I'm I the only one that finds it interesting that there is a thread on radar where a certain poster is bashing people who use unnamed sources?
LOLOLOL at TPFKAPSLFPLSPLA calling Goodman an "ABCer of the highest order."

Goodman doesn't let a single day pass without trolling NC State fans somehow. Yet he's an ABCer? Lol.

If our freshmen bigs surpass your meager expectations, I won't even say I told you so because I know you will be as happy as I am. Can you say the same if they don't pan out? We shall see.

I think most of us would have gladly traded a title for a mass exodus and the resulting step back. I know I feel that way. I imagine you do too.

Indeed they were Strum. Anything next year is gravy to me, no pressure.
And, the gravy might be pretty nutritious. We'll have two seniors that were on both of those teams. Kenny Williams will be healthy. Luke Maye could continue to develop well. I think the rebounds will diminish. And, I dunno what to expect overall. I don't expect any championships, but I won't be shocked if the Heels are in contention for them. When you consider that 3 starters will be gone, it makes sense that it will affect the next season. We lost Marcus and Brice in 2016, but we had some experience to fill the void. I think we really needed Tony to come back to make us a viable threat again. But, I gotta say that the last 2 seasons, as a fan, were pretty taxing! This last tournament took years off my life. The 2016 title game was a killer. I'd like a season to just chill and have no expectations.
