OOTB Carolina Basketball Discussion Thread

They also said they can't question the eligibility of any specific player but knows it impacted eligibility so they can include that. I mean, how absurd is that?
Yeah, that makes no sense. One would think that would help our chances of keeping the titles since they can't point to a specific player, but who knows. I expect men's basketball to be hit with a vacated 2005 title, one year post season ban, Roy getting suspended for a few games and a few scholarships lost. I think women's basketball will get hit with all of that except a two year ban since they don't have a tittle to take away. I think football won't get hit with much of anything since they were already hit with a punishment. Maybe a couple of scholarships for them. Doesn't really mean much at this point though. The only thing that matters is what happens in court.

I don't see how they can claim anything about steering if they don't question the validity of the classes.
This is the money quote. If the classes were valid, it's irrelevant how many SAs were enrolled in them. Nor can you claim wrongdoing by the Athletic Support Program for Student Athletes (ASPSA) for ... wait for it ... supporting student athletes by helping them enroll in the classes.

That's what would take this thing to court for sure. A 1-year post season ban may too, but who knows. Roy taking a couple game suspension and a scholarship loss or two wouldnt be worth going to court for (considering Roy would just give that scholarship to a walk-on anyways).

Maybe there's still hope for reaching some sort of a deal with the NCAA, where they don't touch men's bball and hit us with something minor like a women's bball death penalty or something no one would care about - and we can call it even.

I think the UL ruling was just the NCAA covering itself for what it wanted to do to us. They knew that UNC would go to court and one of the arguments would be taking away a title was overreaching and something they have never done.. By taking away the title from UL they have made sure we couldn't use that argument.

I guess that depends on how the Louisville appeal goes. Maybe we have more of a rooting interest in that than we think since that title isn't vacated unless they lose the appeal.

Well, the NCAA is the one that hears the appeal. They won't back off of it because of our case. I strongly believe that if we didn't have this case ongoing UL would have gotten nothing but probation and some recruiting restrictions.

Isaiah Hicks signed by who? Yep the Hornets. **** it Mike just sign em all!

Moo fans and duke fans love to discuss how Jordan always signs former Heels and they do it in a way to try to make fun or something. I don't really get it but it sure is fodder for them. My response is..."tell one of your former players to be successful enough to own a team and they can sign all the duke players or moo players or whoever the hell else they want to sign." I love that Mike throws a bone to former Heels. Family.

Well Duke players are set for life so they don't need a team. Duh.

Yeah, but they would have been better off staying in school for a few more years so they could do things like meet people and have fun. You know, things you can only do in college.

Well they'd be better people that's for sure. Selfish jerks want to make money, makes me sick.

are you referring to any recruitment in particular?

Just in general. They either theorize themselves, which is fine, or they listen to Gary who is usually wrong all the time. Classic example being the Wendell Carter situation. Everyone knows that kid was going to Duke...except Gary of course lol.

I think Radar is just trolling us at this point - talking about the similarities in Luke and Larry Bird's games, saying Luke is a poor-man's Bird, etc.

Larry Legend is a top 5 NBA player of all time. If Luke even gets his jersey honored at UNC I'd be (pleasantly) shocked.

I don't think it is as bad as you are making it out to be. It started out as a joke and I think for the most part it still is. BTW @pln2013, you are welcome to post on this thread. You won't get as much blowback for having a differing opinion over here. I'm sure you have realized by now that some people over there have a hard time discussing things without getting all pissy.

I wasn't trying to imply it was bad. I realized it was at least half in jest which is why I said I thought they were trolling us.

And I think Butterbutt, er... I mean pln, is aware this board exists.

I don't think he is butterbutt. BB was much more combative and he didn't seem to be as detailed in his analysis.

You know it had to be done, right?

Right?

I don't know who that is, but hooray.

Francis is a former teammate of Sterling Manley at Pickerington High in Ohio. He's a sturdy PG (6'3", 190 lbs) that thrives on a physical game. He's no Lawson or Felton, more in the Joel Berry mold - not a speedster but more of a controlled tempo guy. Has good mid-range game and goes to the basket well. Kind of a grinder type. Good leadership skills. Good get.
