OOTB Carolina Basketball Discussion Thread

Ok, so apparently if I go directly to the message boards I can get on. For whatever reason the home page is blocked for me. Here's a good one.

My letter to AD Yow and Bobby Purcell this morning:

"In light of the NCAA’s decision this morning concerning the UNC athletics program scandal, it is with regret that we have decided to suspend our general donations to the Wolfpack Club. Although we only contribute $2,500 annually through monthly recurring donation, I simply cannot support big-time college athletics any longer.

I am interested as to whether there will be any response from the ACC member schools, as it should be in their purview to administer some reasonable rebuke and/or punishment where the NCAA has elected not to do so.

Also, if it is permissible for me to do so, I would like to redirect my existing giving level of $2,500 specifically to the men’s and women’s cross country and track programs.

I suspect this will be a challenging and busy next few days for the Wolfpack Club staff, but I would appreciate a response to let me know how to do so.

Regards"

So nothing really more penalty wise?
Just the two show cause orders. Other than that this whole thing is finally over.

This is my FAVORITE part of this whole ordeal. Pack fans are claiming (I don't believe it) that they are done with college sports now. LOLZ, I love it. I didn't know we were poasting Pack Pride poasts. I've been reading it for an hour. I'll poast some of my faves.

And BTW, the "speakless" thing is an inside joke on there. It's intentional. Just fyi.

We have 3 options:

1) Continue as-is. The results we should expect from this is course have been well established over the last 25 years.
2) Leave the ACC. SEC would love to have a NC school. I think we'd be reasonably competitive in football, and finish quite decently in basketball.
3) We start cheating. There is literally ZERO reason for any athlete to be academically ineligible ever again.

We can't leave the ACC. Google 'ACC Grant of Rights'

I love the ones who say they are going to stop giving money to moo because of the ruling. Punishing your own athletic department makes a lot of sense.

I don't care. I'm going to make fun of them anyway.

They. Are. So. Stupid. Why would NC State's chancellor and AD "show leadership" about an NCAA investigation at a different school. They're so stupid I don't even know where to start. Why would they put a statement out?? LOLLLLL. A statement about WHAT? God bless, I'm speakless

Woodson is in UNC's pocket, good luck with getting him to have an issue with them.

I've seen little to no leadership from Woodson or Yow related to this matter. Just sings the UNC song that is set before him.
I'd be very surprised if he or Deb said anything derogatory about UNC. I'm sure it will be a "Let's focus on NC State" crap statement, if anything. Turning a blind eye to the fact that UNCs junk classes help attract and keep athletes eligible which directly hurts NC State.

as usual, their best days are always carolina's worst days...that's a pathetic way to be programmed.

LOLLLLL, Moo fans argued repeatedly the past 3+ years that such a thing as he's describing is NOT possible and that because of AFAM, all of UNC's academics were tarnished. Now this dude is saying Moo should do the same thing lol

NC State has no jurisdiction to say or do anything about this. Their responsibility is OUR academic integrity, which they have proudly maintained.

We can do both. We can keep the rest of the college at high academic standards, but just set up a sham curriculum for "sports theory" or some bs like that and open it to all students while we put all of our athletes (the ones who don't care about school) in it but make all the classes basically no shows and no work and a guaranteed A for showing up to class for one day or something.

That way all the programs in our school maintains academic integrity but we also keep all our athletes eligible with no problem

I'm glad there are no "official" violations and no "official" sanctions. But, in the world of public opinion, UNC will be university non grata. People will deny that their own alma maters all have an abundance of padding-your-GPA bullshit courses, and insist that only UNC did this. And, the truth is, there are still easy classes at UNC and every other school in the country... And, thank God for that!

I'm enjoying all of the saltiness in the media.
Pat Forde is an idiot of the highest order. All of Yahoo!'s national writers are: Wetzel and Solomon.

It's amazing how even smart journalists are completely clueless on this issue. Guys I follow who are pretty damn smart about most things still have zero clue about the facts in this case and are spouting nonsense today.

Vitale is so upset you would think someone shot his dog. Haven't seen anything from Forde yet, but I'm looking forward to it.

Vitale is one of these old-timers that have bullshitted themselves into believing that college sports are amateur. I dunno if he's too dumb to know that's not true, or if he seared his conscience back in the 70's.

Given what the school has been though and what they have achieved during it all speaks volumes. Kudos UNC for not caving to public opinion. And to the recruits who would have come to UNC, but chose to listen to the haters, come check out the hardware being presented tonight.
Now if the heavens would allow, I hope for a visit from the FBI to certain schools. Life would be perfect then

I first got the notification on my phone today with the headline "North Carolina avoids major sanctions." So my thought process was basically 'okay, so we escaped anything major but we might have gotten a slap on the wrist. No biggie' I was at work so I couldn't view the full article.

Well, turns out we escaped without a scratch. I've viewed this case a bit differently from the start. Even though I agree that the NCAA had no actual jurisdiction to punish us, and I'm thankful for that, I also believe that it was just a clever way for us to keep our athletes eligible. The classes were crap. I hope the school ensures this never happens again because if it does we should be furious.

That being said, we keep our banners, wins, everything. And I could not be more happy that this is over and LNWR will be off the hook tonight. I'm also getting a kick out of the meltdown happening at Rupp Rafters right now haha. Place is about to explode.

Man,...good thing we were warned by all those insiders that it was going to be bad. I don't know if I could have taken this news if I hadn't been prepped. lol

Ya, I always go back and forth as to whether I should sign up for premium or not. I don't give two craps about insider articles on the football team's backup left guard - it's info on stuff like this that I care about. And it seems like they whiffed, so I'll put this issue in the "con" column.

But what pleases me the most out of all this, is knowing that guy @DevilDJ is standing on a ledge somewhere wondering how he could have better spent his free time over the past 7 years. His anguish is worth the shit we've been through.

@DevilDJ today:
