OOTB Carolina Basketball Discussion Thread

Yep, there's like no way one of Kansas, Nova, or Duke doesn't win the title, which makes me sad. But 2 of the 5 on my list, Gonzaga and Kentucky, got knocked out tonight. So that's something.

Mentally prepare for Duke to win it all, against a lousy seed. Just like 2010.
You picked duke last year as well. Hopefully your level of accuracy continues.

So.... Cal and most his players walked off the court without shaking hands.

To be fair it looked like they tried to shake hands but the k state players were too busy celebrating. A few players went through and at least shook hands with the coaches. Can’t blame them for not wanting to stand around waiting until the celebration was over.

So several ky fans on rr are convinced that.....u ready for this?......that the refs intentionally called knstate for fouls against one particular ky player cause the refs knew the ky guy was gonna miss his free throws. Seems one of em went 8-20 at the line and intentionally putting him on the line is how the ncaa made ky lose the the game.

Oh yeah, I hate when that happens. Damn, that sucks.

That dude shot nearly as many FTs by himself (20) as Kansas State shot as a team (22) but yeah, it was rigged against Kentucky, just like the rule that says players can only stay in Lexington one year. It's a cruel world that keeps the good folks over there down!

ETA: It was 20-20 in FT's before UK intentionally fouled with 8 seconds left.

I saw that, he also said he was proven right by history since a UK player hadn't shot 20 free throws in the tournament for 60 years. He then complained about 50 foul calls in the game and in the next second said they didn't call enough fouls on SGA or Knox... Batshit crazy.

Kentucky blew it, plain and simple. They needed to lose that game. That was almost gift-wrapped for them and they still couldn't win. No, scratch that... it was gift-wrapped and sprinkled with sugar and hooker coupons.
It really was, Kentucky's path to the Final Four was a 12, 13, 9, 11 and it was still too difficult for them.

The handshake line is antiquated anyway. Need to get rid of it.

I've played sports all my life and I completely disagree. It's a small token gesture, but most players respect it. Being able to man up and shake hands after intense competition is a valuable lesson to learn.

If you watch the tournament closely you'll notice that it's very rare for the players not to all shake hands. I think that speaks to the effectiveness of the handshake line. Some of these guys have just had their careers ended and they still go shake hands. That impresses the hell out of me.

all three of my kids play youth sports and i’m glad they do...i think the handshake and/or fist bump is a good lesson.

however, what i hate is the opposing team cheer or chant in appreciation of the opponent...like, gfy already.

Do nba players shake hands after games?

Not really. Players usually go talk to various other players on the other team. Coaches often just head to the locker room. Sometimes they wave to the other coach, sometimes they go shake their hand or something. I just think it is silly. At the youth level I think it is great. HS as well. At the college level and beyond I don't see the need for it. It is forced sportsmanship at a level where it seems unnecessary. There are better ways to instill it at that level.

Wait what? At first I assumed you meant it sarcastically, like one of those annoying AAU baseball chants that 13 and 14 year olds get in to.

Is this really a thing in youth sports now? They have to cheer for the other team?

it’s a cheer similar to the yankees youth team vs the bears in the original bad news bears movie, the one with tatum o’neal.

We would've had a damn easy route to the championship if we hadn't shot like crap against TAMU

Carolina's weaknesses were going to be exposed sooner or later. Although, the NCAA is all about match-ups and we just went up against the worst possible match up for us. We were missing all the necessary pieces anyway. Besides, this was the best tourney for high seeds to lose. Everyone will remember UVA and not us.
