OOTB Carolina Basketball Discussion Thread

Well, Kansas booted us out of a few memorable NCAA Tourney's. And, that was Roy's old school. There's a sense of... uneasiness? Also, there was Larry Brown's tenure and Danny Manning.
Other than the losses, that should be reasons for us not to hate them. I can't think of two schools that have more of a coaching connection than us. That uniqueness should make it more friendly than hateful.

I noticed a lot of people on THR hoping the dookies fail for an extended period. That would be awful, in my opinion. Maybe for a season or two, at the very most. If they aren't successful, the rivalry falters and the love of the game goes down, from my perspective. It's great to win, we know that. But, if all you ever do is win... it seems like the wins might get old.
I like to say I hope duke loses every game they play, but you're right about this. Honestly there are only four games I really want them to lose every year. The two times they play us and the first round of each tournament. The rivalry would take a big hit if duke became moo. The only reason I give a shit about moo is due to the fact that their fans are assholes.

I love it when dook loses! I really do! But, if they always lost... for like years in a row. Then, it would lose its appeal. I know they're usually going to win, so, it feels awesome when they lose!

The State and UK fanbases are just fervent, like us. I noticed how there seem to be a LOT of UK fans on their RR rivals board. I dislike NCSU as much as dook. I probably dislike dook more because dook wins a lot now, and has for 30 years now. The NCSU hatred is from my childhood. I dislike Kansas because they win all the time. I hate Clemson because they win all the damned time. UNC is disliked because we win a lot!

Yeah, don't put us in the same breath as UK and moo fans. Those are fan bases that celebrated Dean's death, openly hope for the injury and/or death of players and coaches. I've seen some wild conspiracy theories from our fan base, but some of the stuff they come up with is just crazy.

But, there are similarities because we're people from the same areas and same walks of life. I don't believe that State fans are genetically inferior to UNC fans. They're just people.

Ok? I'm not talking about genetics. I'm talking about mentality and attitude. Other than the fact we're fans of a school and we want that school to be successful, there aren't similarities. I've never seen any UNC fan say the things they say.

Seriously though, if he can win any games at Pitt, it’s an improvement so he comes off looking like he’s a decent coach

You'd have to pay me a hell of a lot more than Duke's currently paying these guys to live in Pittsburgh for 6 months.

Might be a sign that Vader is nowhere close to hanging it up.
Possibly or maybe he got a feeling that he wasn't going to get the job once K leaves. I wonder if there was an issue developing with the recruiting strategy between the two. Obviously Capel was all in on the OAD, but maybe after seeing the results K was starting to change his mind.

That's what I think, if K was retiring in 1 or 2 years I seriously doubt Capel takes this job. This is going to affect Duke's recruiting in a negative way so that should be good news for you guys but it might also make K put the full court press on Bacot.

ShuhShefSkee is nowhere near retiring. If you look at him compared to Roy, K looks 10 years younger, easily. Now, I realize he dyes his hair, but, I mean facially and physically overall. K does not look his age at all. Roy looks 10 years older than his age, and he's 3 years younger than K. That's not a slam on Roy at all. He just looks older. I would say that Roy is closer to retiring than K. I have a feeling that K will coach until his body and mind are totally gone. He'll drop on-the-court.

I think K worries that he will end up dying like Bryant and Paterno if/when he retires.

AP names Luke 3rd team All American, so with all four publications out, we will have to wait for next year for Luke to get a chance to get his jersey in the rafters. Still, major congratulations to Mr. Maye on one incredible year

It would be one of history’s greatest travesties for Luke to leave without his jersey honored.

Get ready for that to happen. I don't think his stats will improve next year because there is no one to get him the ball. I think you'll see a decrease of around 1-2 ppg. He's still going to be good, just not as good statistically. That's what matters to the voters.

I’d say the drop off may even be bigger than that. I totally agree. But Maye’s stats are irrelevant because of “the shot”.

True, but numbers don't always matter if the team is winning. Devonte Graham and Berry scored approximately the same PPG and Graham is a first team guy while Berry was honorable mention. Admittedly, Graham also has more APG, but them winning their conference along with earning a 1 seed will do a lot for you. Even if Luke drops to 15 PPG and keeps his rebounds the same at 10, if we win the ACC and get a 1 seed, he's a 2nd team guy at worst.

Maybe, but usually the North Carolina name means you don't have to win as much as other schools to get that type of recognition. If we make a deep run it's possible, but I think his best chance was this year. It's probably just a bunch of old men hating on a white guy that is keeping him out.
