OOTB Carolina Basketball Discussion Thread

You guys are overreacting in my opinion. Little is literally too good to not want or have. He was cleared in this whole thing. Fact is, we need a recruit of his caliber.

Ya, I don't get it. We've been willing to give our left nut for a top ten recruit over the past few years, we finally get one, and now we want to send him back

Do you really want to go through all of that again so we can get five more wins?.

If those 5 more wins come in the tournament compared to this year's tournament, yes.

I never have not trusted Roy. I don’t always agree with every decision he makes, but that doesn’t mean I don’t think he’s a brilliant coach and the right man to lead us.

But if you trust him to bring in a player that has some unsettling circumstances surrounding him, then you must be able to trust that he will recruit and land the players that best fit our system and his style of coaching, right?

If you do not believe this is unc rolling over and providing all this info, I have some beachfront property in Arizona to sell you. They know where all the bodies are buried, are pros at the paying the players game, and have specifically targeted this investigation for their revenge tour. And who has more connections and influence in government and NCAA than they? They are not in control of it, but with information provided by them and cohorts they can specifically direct where it leads. Remember, this all started with the unc football investigation. They've been bleachbitting and shredding ever since while everyone else was trying to play catchup unawares the whole time they were feeding the FBI leads. That coincidentally involve Adidas schools and primarily the one school causing them the most problems. NIKE rules the paying for players game. But they investigate Adidas? It's so obvious it's laughable.

Sometimes the black helicopters are really black helicopters

Seems legit.

No "we" haven't. I'd love to have a top recruit as long as he doesn't have any baggage. Little has a whole storage shed attached to him.

Key word is if. Would you be ok if those additional five wins came in non conference, who gives a shit games? There is no guarantee he will lead us to anything of significance or that we need him to do it. If something were to happen and we get caught, the NCAA would destroy us. They wanted to kill us for the afam stuff, but knew they couldn't. Paying players is a clear violation. If you think they wouldn't give us an ass raping after the results of the afam thing you're nuts.

How so? My optometrist was at Doctors Vision Center which I guess was absorbed by MyEyeDr. I haven't noticed a difference.
Well I had a small town local optometrist in business by himself. Then he got greedy and went in with My Eye Dr. I’m not a fan mainly bc of the employees it came with. I still go tho.

I would normally agree with you, but to my knowledge Roy doesn't have access to FBI case files. For all we know there is a tape of Little asking for the money.
If the NCAA clears him to play for UNC even if he was involved with $$$$$$$ Wildcats situation, I don’t see how that falls back on us.... In a round about way if we were playing that game I don’t think he would be our 1st Top 10 recruit in 7 years(or whatever it is).... So unless Roy decided all of a sudden to get involved we wouldn’t be involved in the situation at all even though he goes to Chapel Hills

You're assuming the NCAA is a logical institution. They're going to say it was common knowledge he was involved in something shady because of the fbi report.

Then he wouldn’t be cleared by the NCAA to begin with....They determine the players eligibility so if they rule him ineligible due to Arizona shenanigans then he will not play at UNC but I don’t think the university can be punished

It's possible, but I don't see how Roy brings him in if there was any doubt about whether Little actually took money. Especially after dealing with the academic stuff for the past few years.
I've mentioned it before, but I don't think the FBI has given Roy access to their case files. And the fact that we had to deal with the academic stuff is what should cause him to be as careful as possible. Little and his family may be clean and I'm sure he's a nice young man, but I'd prefer he be a nice young man somewhere else. I think it's possible for UNC to field a basketball team without him. If he were a PG I might feel differently.

There are still about 6 to 7 months until the season begins. Hopefully more information about the investigation becomes available during that time.

I, for one, am ecstatic about having Nas on board. I welcome him w open arms and can’t wait to watch him do work in the fall.

I'm excited to have Nas too. It's been a while since we signed a top 10 guy (JJ, I reckon?). But I can't lie, I completely understand where @tarheel0910 is coming from. We just got through all that mess and while Little has been cleared, it does seem like a risk that's maybe not worth taking being in our position. But there's nothing I can do about it so I'll just hope like hell nothing ever comes up over the next 3 years that Nas is with us.

Here's some more info on Augustine / Little from CBS Sports in their article about the investigation.

Jonathan Brad Augustine, former director of an Adidas-sponsored program: Augustine is no longer a part of this case, as his charges were dropped after the FBI discovered he pocketed money initially intended to be used to steer players to universities. Sources told CBS Sports that Augustine, who was connected with Miami's recruitment of Nassir Little (who later committed to UNC), misrepresented the situation to other parties. Augustine, per sources with intimate knowledge of the case, told CBS Sports that he concocted a scheme to try and get paid for Little without the knowledge of Little's parents, who signed sworn affidavits claiming they never discussed nor accepted money for their son's recruitment.

"What happened was Augustine made it up," one source said about Augustine's alleged money ploy to get Little to Miami.

This doesn't sound like he was dropped from the case due to taking a deal.

It absolutely sounds like Augustine took a deal. He admitted to pocketing money in return for pushing a recruit somewhere. He claims he never told the family. The FBI doesn't drop those charges if he didn't agree to sing. FWIW, that does not mean Little was in the know of what was happening.

Yeah, from what I've read Augustine was taking the money and instead of even offering it to anyone just keeping it. That is why they thought originally all these kids were involved and it turns out very few were at all.

I don't think the risk is very high, but even if it were - it'd be a risk worth taking. Say Little is busted and we get punished for 3-4 years and can't get any recruits due to lack of scholarships or postseason ban. Well, that's the same boat we'd be in (not getting top recruits and not making the NCAAT) if we don't prove to recruits that top talent can come here and succeed.

But if we're punished for 3-4 years, we're not even getting the Joel Berrys, the Kennedy Meeks and the Brice Johnsons of the world, let alone the Nas Littles, Theo Pinsons and Justin Jacksons. Roy did a masterful job holding it together through lean recruiting years. But they were lean years, not nonexistent years, which would be the case if we were hit with sanctions. We'd be lucky to get the Andrew Plateks and Brandon Huffmans if that were to happen.

I'm all for having Little on the team as long as he's clean. If he did take money, I hope that information comes out before the season begins so we can cut him loose and not risk any penalties. Having him for the sake of getting a "top recruit" isn't worth it if the program gets post-season bans later.

This won't even be an issue when the OAD rule ends in 2-3 years anyway.

Yes, Roy did do a masterful job holding it together. And my point was that without continued success with 5 stars, we'll begin to not get those 5 stars. I realize there were "only" 3 years absent of 5 stars between Jackson and Little - but 3 years is a long time for a 16-17 year old making his college decision.

The Berrys, Meeks', and Johnsons of the world are great to have - but championships are won by having the Jacksons.

If we can grab Jordan Brown then we'll have 3 5star recruits in the same class for the first time since 2006 (which became the 09 natty).

If we opt for SKJ, you can almost count him as a 5 star coming in for 2 years in 2019.
